About the Hotel

Ten centuries of history radiate from the hand-hewn stone walls and terracotta floors at Tuscany's Castel Monastero, the centerpiece of a small medieval village called Monastero dell'Ombrone. The monastery first appeared in correspondence in 1044 in connection with the nearby Berardenga Abbey and over the centuries noble families transformed it into a castle. Thanks to painstaking restoration efforts, the ancient ambiance remains – guests from all over the world go for bespoke experiences, such as a Bentley ride through the Tuscan countryside.

Reviews for Castel Monastero

Castel Monastero - did not live up to the recommendation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The property is beautiful. However, getting assistance is not easy. The staff is not as personable or helpful as you might expect for a 5 star property. It felt understaffed. The room was "sparse" meaning it lacked amenities we have seen in other hotels. However, it was clean. The staff worked throughout the evening so so you could hear unwelcome noises while trying to relax. The food at Cantina was just "OK," lacked seasoning and authentic taste. The "value" did not meet the price point.

A Very Peaceful Enjoyable Stay!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This was a beautiful Resort and we loved everything about it! The property is secluded and beautiful, the pool area is beautiful and peaceful with a large spa area that my husband enjoyed each day, I was happy to sit by the pools (3 of them) with the lush landscape, our room was rustic, updated, clean and comfortable! We loved our breakfast every morning and our dinner at their Michelin star restaurant! We also were happy to be able to take a cab to Siena and enjoy some time there! The staff, every one of them, were fantastic! We felt this Resort was a very good value and would definitely recommend!!

Castel Monastero was one of the best hotel destinations I’ve ever been to. It rivaled the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons of the world due to the quality of the property and the hospitality of the staff. Our only regret was that we did not stay for the full duration of our trip.

I hope to revisit in the future and I would look nowhere else for future visits to Tuscany. Thank you all!
