OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort

We stayed at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort for 7 full days in late September with two families, including a 4 year old and an 11 year old. Unfortunately, we got unlucky with the weather and only had two sunny days. The rest of the time was windy, rainy, and cold. Before our trip, we checked the weather and assumed rain on the weather app meant a quick passing cloud. Don't make that same mistake! It actually meant sustained rain, so definitely pack warm clothes just in case. This is not a 5 star resort based on my experience staying at luxury properties around the world, but the staff easily deserve a full five out of five. Almost everyone we met was genuinely happy and caring. Jonathan at Ivi Restaurant made sure we were well looked after, and we loved our chats with him because he really knows his stuff. Savenaca from the activities team went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time and experienced the local culture. At the adults' pool bar, Salome and Violet made us feel so special by remembering everyone's names and drink preferences. Finally, after I raised our check out issues, General Manager Darren Shaw and Food and Beverage Manager Warren stepped in to ensure our final day went smoothly, which we really appreciated. The food had some standout moments. Ivi Restaurant is an absolute must, especially if you order the surf and turf platters and the delicious watermelon margaritas. Over at Vahavu Restaurant by the adults' pool, the breakfast was great, particularly the Persian phyllo dish. The resort has a wonderful setup for families. The Kids' Club offers a variety of engaging activities tailored to different age groups, and both children in our party had a fantastic time. They also offer free babysitting at Kana Buffet during breakfast, which was a great touch that we sadly only discovered on our last day. We used the nanny service one evening so the adults could go out for dinner and drinks, and she successfully put both kids to sleep. We were very happy with that experience. However, several operational issues keep this resort from reaching a 5 star rating. When booking, a meal plan wasn't available, so we opted into a half board plan for adults and kids' plans upon arrival. Instead of using a simple wristband system or scanning guest room cards, we had to sign paper receipts every time we ordered. This was incredibly inefficient for both guests and staff. Because of this, our final statement was filled with incorrect charges, including an extra night's buffet dinner and charges from Baravi Restaurant for items we never ordered. Resolving this took 45 minutes on our final morning while the front desk agent manually searched through a massive stack of physical paper receipts to confirm the signatures were not ours. The other family in our group had similar issues because their plan was never properly entered into the system. In addition to the billing hassles, we noticed a lack of consistency elsewhere. In room restocking was hit or miss, with coffee or water replenished on some days and forgotten on others. We were also surprised to find no beach setup, even on sunny days, there were no loungers or chairs put out for guests, just a few scattered umbrellas. If you decide to visit, keep in mind that resort purchases add up quickly. Water was not included in our meal plans, and soft drinks or juices were $6.50 while a Fiji Gold beer was $15. If you have a driver taking you from the airport, ask them to stop at a local grocery store to stock up on snacks and bottled water beforehand. Also, be sure to leave extra time at check out to carefully review your statement line by line. The resort grounds are beautiful, and the staff truly embody Fijian hospitality. While our stay was hampered by poor weather and administrative issues, we still made the most of our trip.

My family and I spent 5 nights staying at the Outrigger beach resort and had a fabulous time from the moment the front gate attendant enthusiastically shouted out "Bula, bula, bula!" to the moment we had to say Sota Tale upon check out. We stayed in a premium ocean view - one king bed room with our daughters able to sleep on a day bed and then a trundle bed. Both were the equivalent of a single size bed which was enough for a 12 and 7 year old respectively. The room was well appointed with a large bathroom and a small bar fridge which we used to keep 500ml bottles of water that we bought as well as a few cans of soft drink that were offered to us daily as part of the Talai butler service every afternoon. The resort itself had plenty of options for keeping us entertained or chilled depending on what we wanted and how we felt. Our eldest loved the beach, snorkelling when the tide was in and seashell hunting when the tide was out. Our youngest loved being in the pool all day, swimming, splashing and flipping. Everyone agreed that the water slide into the pool was the most fun though. The food options for families was restricted as one restaurant was adults only and another was for ages 10+ so we had the Kana, the Sundowner and Baravi poolside to choose from. Breakfast daily at the Kana buffet was great, a lot of options, well cooked and tasty. Baravi poolside you could order to your lounge chair by the pool if you wished, staff walked around constantly asking if you'd like to place an order but the best food option was Sundowner for dinner, great grill options with steaks and pizzas. I definitely recommend it if you have paid for either the half or full board package. The staff were certainly friendly and welcoming and were a highlight to themselves. Whether you were walking past restaurant service staff, housekeeping or activities staff, everyone always extended a warm smile and an even warmer Bula greeting. Such hospitality certainly felt like a highlight in itself as each Bula helped you relax further into paradise. We certainly are keen to make a return at some point in the future.

We are return travelers to the Outrigger Fiji. It is a fabulous family friendly holiday that provides an experience for families and couples alike. The food and atmosphere are of a high standard but the Fijians are my standout favourite part of the holiday!! They provide the love, care and the music! It is a joy to return again and again!!!
