Standing on an historic main street in the 1,000-year-old town of Sigtuna, just 28 miles northwest of Stockholm, is the Sigtuna Stads Hotell. From humble origins in 1909, this historic three-story edifice in Sweden's oldest city has been transformed into an inviting inn of great charm and style. With enchanting views of Lake Malaren, the 26-room retreat boasts classic Scandinavian style and is awash in cool colors, plush furnishings, polished woods and hi-tech advancements. This Swedish gem offers a convenient location near the ancient city center.

We had an amazing lunch overlooking the frozen lake. Prices were very reasonable for the white-tablecloth experience ($30 Aus for mains) and service was excellent. One of our best experiences in Sweden. The town is beautiful too.

Easy to park and enjoy a lazy walk around the historic town and lake. The room was spacious and we enjoyed watching sunrise from the panoramic windows. The bed was old and worn out, covered by a piece of old foam and linens that didn’t fit the bed correctly. Also the bathroom is tiny and the shower impossible to use as it would have drenched the entire room— something to overlook in an Airbnb, but not acceptable in a “five star” hotel. We had an incredible dinner at Bathuset Krog Bar, absolutely the best view in town amd very glad we chose this when we sat the breakfast. Expecting products from the hotel’s onsite bakery, the breakfast was super disappointing, the gluten free products were all stale. Lots of unrealized potential here.

The waitris recomended a dish that was not on the manuellt. Got the wrong dish twice and when I finaly got what i ordered i was not tasty. Small portions and feels like a scam. Do not recomend to eat here. The only positive I can say is that the coffe was ok.

I have a lactose intolerance, and I asked the waiter if the meal that I had chousen had lactose, and she asked another waiter and came back and said all the meals were lactose free. I enjoy a salmon with potatoes with cream. 20 min later I had to rush to a bathroom feeling terrible because something had lactose. They are not responsible with food alergies, avoid them.

This hotel has certainly seen its best days. The paint is flaking and you are left with a feeling it is not very clean - specifically in the public restrooms. But the absolute worst experience is the food. For dinner we were served an over cooked and totally dry halibut which was so salty it was barely eatable. Adding to this the 'chef' had burnt the fish on the grill so that one side of the fish taste like roast chicken. For lunch the day after we were served a tasteless cod reminding us of a white piece of rubber in a sauce that looked lie sewage water. I am not totally down rating the hotel experience, apart from the cleanliness and need for renovation, but the restaurant is horrific and should be avoided at any cost.
