Top notch help from hotel management after Qantas flight cancellation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

It was a lovely, very good stay - but it was propelled to excellent status by the kind and super-helpful way the hotel front desk and management helped us when Qantas abruptly & at very short notice cancelled our flight home to Australia (without even giving us the courtesy of providing a reason for the cancellation :-( If memory serves correct, Simon was the name of the manager who was able to check us back into the lovely family suite we had just checked out of, and the entire team really looked after us for the next two days while we waited for Qantas to get its act together and get us home .... in the end we had to stay two more nights at the MO - so we felt very fortunate to be able to stay on in comfort ... and enjoy the poolside and the delicious breakfasts and very easy walks to Gardens by the Bay etc. etc. Thank you ! :-)

Lunch at Embu

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Food at Embu is excellent! Seafood is fresh and there is a wide selection of varieties that you can expect. A newly renovated and nice place for dinning, and to celebrate for special occasion. Great service from the friendly staff there! Especially to Ganesan!

Best Views in Singapore… newly redone, with excellent staff, great location and a fab pool

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I would come back to Singapore just to stay at the newly remodeled Mandarin Oriental (and it’s a 15 hour flight from home). The views are the best in town… kinda mind-blowing if you get a top floor overlooking the bay. The staff and the service they provide are excellent, too. This hotel is really, really well run. From check-in to departure, we were treated fantastically well. (Pun intended). It was a great experience for many reasons. We had a bay view… highly recommend it if it’s in the budget. There’s a sea view category… which is probably fine and also overlooks the pool… and the city view room (facing away from the famous skyline). The Mandarin remodel looks good… an interesting mix of contemporary and classic styles with a decidedly green tone. The exterior is green as well… maybe a little too green for me. The hotel has a 23-story atrium and was designed by famous architect John Portman, known for his… atriums. And glass elevators. They do make every ride fun. The rooms are very tastefully appointed but not large. Every square foot was carefully considered. But with those bay views, size doesn’t matter. The bathrooms are compact as well, with a soaking tub and glass window that looks out into the room, which makes them feel a bit bigger. The location is across the street from the bay and convenient to most things, yet a bit removed from crowds of the main waterfront. The MO is attached to a mall (what hotel in Singapore isn’t?) with two 7-11s and a nice wine shop. There is some low-rise construction going on between the hotel and the bay at the moment. It doesn’t block any views but you might notice it if you’re down by the pool. We didn’t hear anything inside and it didn’t affect our stay. We had Club Floor privileges (called Haus 65) on the 21st floor. It’s an elegant series of rooms with city (but not the famous skyline) views. It was great. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. We checked in and out of the hotel at the club and it was a luxe way to start and end a visit. From Jeff, to Andrew, Elaria, Winnie and Walter (and everyone else)… we always got excellent service with a smile. They serve a tasty breakfast here… fewer (and smaller) hot items than in the main restaurant buffet but we preferred the clubby atmosphere. There’s a afternoon tea (great cakes) and an early snack-y dinner service that ends at 7, along with complimentary wine and bottled water. The pool area is beautiful and spacious and overlooks the bay from five floors up. It is reminiscent of the Beverly Hills Hotel in color scheme… pink and green. The gym (on the same level) is well appointed without being high-tech. There are plenty of dining options at the hotel, all of which looked good. But with our bay view, we stuck to room service. Really tasty with, again, great staff. A fun free thing to do at the hotel is check out the bikes available at the concierge desk. There are a lot of bike lanes nearby and around the bay… and Singapore is basically flat… so you don’t get worn out pedaling. I’d like to make a special mention of a few staff members, starting with Sydney at the front desk. Such a sweet, nice, fun person who also cares so much about her guests. She was recommended to us by a great MO staffer in Abu Dhabi (Johannes). He thoughtfully emailed her to take good care of us when we arrived a week later. And she did. It made us feel very welcome when we arrived. We saw her several times during our stay and she even came to say goodbye as we left for the airport, with a few goodies from the hotel. She and the friendly front door staff waved us farewell as our taxi pulled out of the drive. It was the nicest departure we’ve ever had from any hotel, anywhere. Someone else we kept running into on almost every floor of the hotel in various locations was a very elegant woman with a lot of stylish eyeglasses. Our first chat was in the elevator. Later on, outside the hotel, we ran into her while returning our bikes. It was only then that we found out her name is Jill Goh and that she’s the general manager of the Mandarin. I’ve never met a hotel manager who was more involved and caring of her guests and her staff than Jill. And she’s delightful as well. We were highly impressed with both these women. I also wanted to mention a few other great people by name…. Jovinn at the front desk and Cindy, an assistant manager. The bellhops deserve special mention, too. (Actually, any experience with every employee was always pleasant). We had a truly memorable time at this hotel. The decor is beautiful, its location is great, the bay views are stunning and the staff is excellent. I would highly recommend the MO to anyone visiting Singapore. I won’t forget our visit any time soon and look forward to returning.

Superior Service in Singapore

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore on business and wanted to comment on the high level of customer care and service across the board. The stellar service was apparent right upon check-in at the front desk, at the restaurants/ bar in the week, and even through to the last day to accommodate a late check out and spa appointment request. Noteworthy mentions: Kim and Nana from Mo Bar were excellent hosts. Ling from Embu was very welcoming. Janet from Mandarin Spa was super accommodating and professional. All around great experience and look forward to returning.

Compliments and commendation on outstanding service

We had a wonderful dinning experience at the Embu Restaurant of the Mandarin Oriental Singapore due to the excellent service rendered by Ms Wai Meng. She was very efficient, polite and effective in her work which she also performed with lots of zest and enthusiasm. Wai Meng was also very attentive and sensitive to our needs.
