Fabulous Raffles

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Wow what a stay! Amazing , the staff made it for us , particularly Lucman, Allen, Tina at restaurant, The fabulous Doorman, The Major and his Coharts , we had the most fabulous time, loved our suite and enjoyed the tour of Raffles by Ross. Ross was a font of knowledge. We loved the whole Raffles experience. We will be back to be part of The Raffles Family. Thank you Miranda and Nicky

Out of this world!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Sensational tour of the fascinating a rich history of the oldest hotel in Singapore - and the grandest in Singapore, arguably the world. It's a well known hotel for a reason. Nazir, Raffles Hotel's Historian, has a deep knowledge of its history and truly is able to bring those stories to life. And to access parts of the building never expected! Don't miss this history tour. As for my stay ... out of this world! Pure relaxation!

Grand Dame resting on her laurels

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We travel to Singapore regularly and were hoping to make Raffles our long-term home base after having stayed at the Four Seasons and Fullerton in previous years. We typically stay at properties like Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood, and similar, so we're familiar with what true luxury hospitality feels like—not just in service, but in atmosphere, consistency, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, our stay at Raffles left us deeply underwhelmed. While the property itself is undeniably beautiful, the guest experience feels more like a heritage-themed attraction than a true luxury retreat. The grand entrance—once iconic—is now cluttered with high tea seating and often crowded with non-guests taking photos. We booked 3 Palm Court Suites specifically for the promise of exclusivity, but that expectation quickly faded. Our neighbor frequently smoked outside their suite, and we found ourselves walking through secondhand smoke multiple times a day. It didn’t feel private or serene—just disappointing. Knowing that we were traveling with small children, the hotel should have kept us separate from smoking guests. Noise was also a major issue. Our ground-floor suite suffered from constant foot traffic on the corridor balcony above—in the wee hours of the morning, same time, every night—which made rest difficult and broke the illusion of calm. Service was wildly inconsistent. While a few staff were warm, many interactions felt curt or indifferent unless tipped. We even paid to have dress shirts pressed, only to have them returned wrinkled— and although the cost was deducted from our final bill this is still an example of the lack of attention to detail that popped up repeatedly during our stay. Service leading up to our stay was also deeply underwhelming, the staff took days to respond and when I asked for help with restaurant bookings I was sent a screenshot showing that bookings had not opened. In previous hotels if this were the case, I'd simply be informed that bookings weren't open but they would take care of it when possible - that's "legendary service". No email was sent out prior to our stay either to gather information about preferences. Room service food was hit or miss, while some dishes were good the Chicken Rice and Nasi Goreng were lacklustre. The broth in the former was flavourless, the worst I've had, and the Nasi Goreng was also flat. Not all was bad though, the breakfast selection was fantastic and varied. The quality of the foods were very impressive (which makes the disparity with the quality in in-room dining even more peculiar). The rooms are immaculately clean, and beautifully maintained, and children's soaps were provided, though other hotels at this level have provided toothbrushes and slippers/robes for kids. A chocolate egg filled with sweets was left in our rooms to crack open over Easter which was also a nice touch, but generally these hotels will provide fresh fruit or other welcome amenities which were nowhere to be found here. We were, however, offered a choice of six chocolates out of a box of eight on arrival though, which we turned down as it felt a bit odd and cheap. That being said, Raffles' slogan is "Legendary service" and the Singapore location in particular makes mention of the vision of its founders with nightly historical stories left on guest beds. Sadly, that legacy now feels like branding rather than a lived ethos especially given the Raffles chain's rapid expansion in the global arena. It may still impress first-time visitors checking off a bucket-list stay, but for seasoned travelers looking for consistency, warmth, and thoughtful hospitality—it falls far short. We’ll be staying elsewhere next time.

THE luxury Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I find it difficult to comment on Raffles other than to say it is THE luxury hotel. I last stayed there in 1985 and it has had two renos since. It is opulent but without being garish. Check-in, staff, service, if you want old style perfection, it is here. Umpteen very friendly and helpful staff for any request are immediately available and go to every length address any whim. The room was spacious, very comfortable bed and pillows, large bathroom, shower, bath etc. The restaurants are excellent and the evening N Indian was one of the best Indian meals I have had. Its a beautiful hotel with lovely courtyards. A purely personal comment, in the course of the renos, I think the Long Bra disappeared, its successor is simply a bar, up a floor from the ground and enclosed. Although the "Raffles Gin Sling" was advertised as the "Original" the recipe is not the same as the 1985, my wife and I had only one and never went back (the Writers Bar was ideal for us. That moan aside, this remains THE hotel and is a great credit to its manager and staff. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay.
