Reviews for Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore

Extremely disappointing for vegetarians/vegans – kids went hungry

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

I just stayed at Shangri-La Orchard, Singapore and had to write this because I was shocked at how poor the food options were for vegetarians and vegans. We’re a family with kids and there were barely any veg options at breakfast or dinner. What was available was bland, repetitive, and clearly an afterthought – think 1 sad curry, plain white rice, and some gluten free pasta which also im not sure if it was vegetarian or not. My kids ended up eating pasta because there was nothing substantial for them. For a 5-star hotel in Singapore charging premium rates, this is unacceptable in 2026. The contrast couldn’t be starker: we’ve stayed at Shangri-La Sentosa before and the Indian food there was excellent, with proper vegetarian curries, dosas, paneer dishes, and vegan labeling. That property understands families and dietary needs. Shangri-La Orchard, unfortunately, was horrible to say the least when it comes to food. Service was polite, rooms were fine, but if you’re vegetarian/vegan or traveling with kids who need proper meals, avoid this property. Shangri-La needs consistency across its Singapore hotels – Sentosa gets it right, Orchard needs a complete rethink of its menus.

Stunning hotel and service at its best

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Our stay at Shangri-La Singapore was so incredible that we actually came back for a second stay during our Singapore holiday! It wasn’t part of the original plan, but we changed our itinerary just to surprise our kids before heading home to Australia. That alone says everything about how much we loved this hotel. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by one of the most breathtaking hotel lobbies we’ve ever seen. The property is absolutely stunning, beautifully maintained, and feels like a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. Our first check-in was unfortunately a little disappointing. We weren’t told much about the facilities, particularly the amazing children’s pool and family areas, so we didn’t get to enjoy everything the hotel has to offer straight away. Thankfully, our second stay completely changed that experience. We were welcomed by the most wonderful lady at reception (I only wish I’d written down her name!). She was warm, genuinely caring, incredibly informative, and went above and beyond to find a room that perfectly suited our family’s needs. She even upgraded us, despite us having booked a different room. Her kindness made us feel so valued and was a wonderful reminder of what true Shangri-La hospitality is all about. The breakfast buffet is simply outstanding—without question one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve experienced anywhere in the world. The variety is enormous, the quality exceptional, and everything was absolutely delicious. We especially loved the dedicated kids’ section and the balloon entertainers who made breakfast such a fun experience for the children. Speaking of children, Shangri-La truly knows how to make families feel welcome. From the lovely goodie bags at check-in to the thoughtful surprises waiting in our room, our kids felt so special throughout our stay. One of the biggest surprises for us was the incredible kids’ club. Our children almost never go to kids’ clubs when we’re travelling—they’d much rather stay with us. But this one completely changed that. They absolutely loved it and had the best time. In fact, our youngest enjoyed it so much that he asked to go back the following day by himself, without his older sister. That has never happened before! The caring staff and fun activities made him feel so comfortable and confident, and as parents, that meant the world to us. One of the absolute highlights was the high tea in the upstairs lounge. It was honestly one of the finest afternoon teas we’ve enjoyed anywhere in the world. The food was exquisite, the desserts were perfection, and the chef’s service was exceptional. A special thank you to the wonderful manager overseeing the experience—she was absolutely outstanding and made the entire afternoon unforgettable. We also had dinner at the Italian restaurant, which was another highlight. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was flawless. A special mention to Mani, who looked after us so well and made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Every member of staff—from the concierge team and porters to housekeeping—was friendly, welcoming and genuinely cared about making our holiday memorable. Shangri-La has completely won our hearts as the ultimate family holiday destination. It’s one of those rare hotels that makes you feel completely at home while delivering true luxury at the same time. We genuinely can’t wait to return. In fact, our 11-year-old daughter loved it so much that she has already declared she’s going to get married here one day! ❤️ The free shuttle to orchard street is great also. Thank you to everyone at Shangri-La Singapore for creating memories our family will treasure forever. We absolutely love this hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough.

A real abode of peace and happiness

We stayed for 5 nights as a family of four (kids 7 & 12). This was a great hotel and we would definitely come back. We had interconnecting rooms (cheaper than a suite) which were very comfortable. The pool was beautiful in the afternoon - Ravi and the bar team were friendly, Happy and welcoming. Kumar on the front door was such a nice guy. - always smiling and so friendly to the kids. Breakfast at the line was amazing, and the amenities were very comfortable. This was one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in, and would recommend without question.

Valley Wing: Luxury Redefined Through Exceptional Hospitality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We had never stayed at Shangri-La Singapore before, but after seeing the countless glowing reviews, we decided to treat ourselves and splurge a little by booking a suite at the Valley Wing. Prior to our stay, we also requested our preferred pillow types. From the moment we arrived, we understood why this hotel is so highly regarded. The doorman and concierge delivered impeccable service by personally unloading our luggage and escorting us to the Valley Wing reception. We were warmly welcomed by Iris during check-in, who demonstrated exceptional hospitality by patiently explaining all the room benefits and ensuring we felt well taken care of throughout the process. As our suite was not quite ready, we were invited to enjoy the Valley Wing's signature afternoon tea, served from 2pm to 4pm. Guests also enjoy complimentary free-flow champagne, wines, cocktails and other beverages from noon until 10.30pm, with an impressively extensive drinks menu. One small observation regarding the afternoon tea: by default, only one set is served per table, regardless of whether there is one or two guests. This means each item comes in a single portion unless you specifically request one set per person. We found this rather unusual, as we had assumed each guest would automatically receive their own serving to sample every item. Thankfully, the staff were more than happy to accommodate our request. Once our suite was ready, we were genuinely impressed. The room was exceptionally spacious, elegantly designed and exuded luxury in every detail. It was also a pleasant surprise to find our requested pillows already placed on the bed, rather than having to make another request after check-in, which is often the case at many hotels. The complimentary minibar was another thoughtful touch, including beers, wines and miniature spirits. If there was one minor drawback, it would be that the televisions felt rather dated and relatively small at around 40 inches. The evening canapés, served from 5pm to 7pm, featured items such as Angus beef sliders, tempura cod, prawn ball croutons and buffalo wings. Overall, the food was enjoyable, with the Angus beef sliders being the standout. However, several dishes, particularly the buffalo wings, were served lukewarm and had turned slightly soggy. What truly impressed us was the team's attention to detail. Every time they took our order, they proactively checked if we had any allergies or dietary requirements. This level of attentiveness is something we typically only experience in fine dining restaurants, and it genuinely elevated the overall experience. One area that could be improved was the beverage service. Cocktails understandably take time to prepare, but even simple orders such as champagne or wine sometimes took between 20 and 30 minutes to arrive. The lounge was also rather crowded during our visit, with many young children, which made the atmosphere less tranquil than we had expected from the exclusive Valley Wing experience. Despite this, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Raja, Khair, Alex and Dewi for their outstanding hospitality. Their warmth, attentiveness and professionalism made our lounge experience truly memorable. For breakfast, guests may choose between The Line and Summit. We opted for Summit for its more exclusive setting. The breakfast selection was excellent, offering a well-balanced mix of local favourites and Western dishes. More importantly, everything was served fresh and piping hot. There was also an impressive variety of freshly squeezed juices available. Overall, we now completely understand why Shangri-La Singapore consistently receives such glowing reviews. While there were a few minor areas that could be improved, they were far outweighed by the exceptional service delivered throughout our stay. From the doorman and reception team to the lounge staff, everyone made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. Our stay at the Valley Wing was truly memorable, and we are already looking forward to returning for another stay in the near future.

Wonderful stay at Shanghai-La Hotel Singapore

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Spent 9 days at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore and cannot recommend this hotel enough. The hotel itself is excellent with beautiful decor and very clean. Rooms were serviced daily and the common areas were kept very clean. We were met at the taxi by the valet, our bags taken to the storage area whilst we checked in. Checking in was seamless, especially Frances who explained everything in detail and who was my source of information throughout our stay. She assisted us in so many ways which helped us to get around easily. She is a font of information. All staff were equally helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel.
