Could Not Fault

What can I say? We had a fantastic stay. We stayed for 5 nights in a Cosy room and decided to extend our stay for a further 3 nights in a Deluxe room. I must say the Deluxe room was a lot nicer than the Cosy room but both were extremely comfortable and clean. We had breakfast and canapés and drinks each day and 1 dinner included in our Luxury Escapes package for the first 5 nights. Breakfast had so much variety and the canapes and drinks were a nice entree before we went out to dinner. The dinner we had was very nice. I would just like to say thank you to a few special staff members. Anastasia at the front desk was very helpful as was Hasif at the Concierge desk, especially when my husband left his phone at a bus stop and he helped us get it back. Also, Rochelle and Karen in the dining area. They were very friendly and extremely good at their job. The location was terrific. Across the road from Satay Street and Lau Pa Sat, a hawkers market with over 100 stalls and so well priced. Easy access to buses and trains. All in all, we had a great time. Would thoroughly recommend the deluxe room.

Letting itself go, but probably good value to be had at the right rate

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This used to be SO/ Singapore but lost that branding last year. Having just stayed at SO/Paris, I can completely see why. This hotel is nothing like that standard. However, it does still have some good features, character, a good location and some reasonable rates. However, you need to know what the downside is: - the hotel is badly maintained. Curtains were stained, taps loose, pool furniture decaying (and all the cushions etc missing). The lobby is a design mess - ugh. - there is very limited F&B in the hotel. The food quality is ok, but the environments in which you can eat totally lack atmosphere - some of the staff are "unempowered" to put it mildly. The downstairs bar is characterless, so the pool bar is more attractive. When I went there, they had run out of beer. The barman said "they've got some downstairs - you could go there". I pointed out that he could ask them to bring it up. Which he though was funny. Eh? But I might stay again because the price/location/room mix is pretty decent. Plus the swimming pool is stunning, and perfect for lap swimming.

Great Location

Great location. Very nice room. Friendly staff All good. Just across the street from a hundred local food and beer stalls. It’s a very short walk to Marina bay and all the attractions. A short taxi ride from. Changi airport. A block or two from China Town

Good hotel to explore Singapore

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Good hotel to explore Singapore neighbouring Lao Pa Sat hawker center. Friendly and helpful staff, however there is still room for improvement in terms of service mentality. We booked the VIP suite which was was quite spacious. However, some of the furniture could use a refurbishment or were quite cheap (e.g. the chair frame had wooden look but was made from plastic). Housekeeping and cleanliness was not always on point and we also found some already used amenities on our first check-in. The rooftop pool is a nice place to stay, but the bar staff struggled a bit with taking and delivering orders. For us, the hotel would rather qualify as a 4-star hotel in need of some quality improvements, but definitely not five stars. Room rates are a bit overpriced for the quality you get.

An addendum is required to my Hotel Telegraph review last year

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Last month was my third stay at the Hotel Telegraph in a little over a year, though it was clear much had changed. The hotel was sold, and with it the former GM (Garry Chen) with whom I had an excellent rapport - and the entire management team - was replaced. The head chef moved on to open his own shop - Croissand Café, which I visited. Susan and Wesley still took great care of me in the restaurant, Ismail (whom I nominated for the Singapore Awards this year) was exemplary as usual, and I always appreciate being greeting by Alfonso at the front desk. Still, the magic of the first two visits was gone. I understand that the hotel will be closing soon for renovation. Obviously, there are a lot of unknowns and thus must only now give a qualified recommendation. Great location and I prefer boutique prosperities, but my next stay in a few months will most likely be the Peninsula, Four Seasons or the Fullerton. While the hotel will most likely be closed by then, my February stay was at best comme ci, comme ça. C'est domage.
