90th birthday party

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I booked the orangery for my 90th birthday party. It was a lovely room with windows opening onto a patio and surprisingly cheap to hire. Arranging the party how I wanted it was done with the the events team, who were all extremely kind and friendly and helpful. Lovely people. I was able to choose my own menu ,and they went to the trouble of finding a source of the lamb I wanted (not usually on their menu of roasts). They arranged the tables as I asked, and were even able to delay the serving of the meal because some guests were late due to traffic. There was no hassle for us to leave, though we overstayed the time booked. It was all very relaxed and I have to thank everyone at Charlton House for helping me celebrate 90 years.

Lovely hotel, lovely staff, lovely time

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Stayed for a couple of nights stay in this charming hotel. We had a amazing room with a four poster bed and all the amenities, very clean. Could not fault the staff and service, food was very good although limited. Enjoyed an afternoon in the spa, we contemplated having a treatment, but thought they were overpriced. Grounds and gardens were lovely

Very mixed bag

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The good points were:- Comfy bed Squashy pillows Fluffy towels Elimis products Helpful staff apart from one lady at breakfast Good quality tea and coffee choices in room, replenished the second day. The bad points:- Had to run water in room for between 5-10 minutes to get hot water, wasting copious amounts of water. Rooms tired. Leaky tap. Top of tap missing, showing green underneath. No loose sugar at breakfast to sprinkle on cereal, only cubes. When staff asked if we could have some sugar she said the kitchen doesn’t have any. Seems a bit strange that a working kitchen wouldn’t have any loose sugar. No butter for croissants, have to ask. No toast offered, you have to ask. Offered 2 types of bread the first day and then just bought white the second day. It felt like it was an inconvenience asking for toast. No sauces available for hot breakfast, you have to ask. Limited choice of cereals. No alternative milk options. Although we appreciate this is an old listed building that needs some renovation. A lot of the issues bought to the attention of the owners over the last 3 years could be easily rectified, and yet the same issues are repeatedly fed back. This hotel does not warrant the four star rating and we believe it’s false advertising claiming it is.

Hidden Gem, amazing evening dining and excellent spa to relax and unwind

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Very comfortable and homely twin room with excellent facilities and spacious bathroom with both shower and separate bath including Elemis products overlooking outdoor spa area. Staff all very helpful and welcoming . Beautiful grounds and relaxing spa area. Spa facilities clean and well kept. Had amazing Swedish massage with lovely friendly beautician Kalli. Evening dining experience 1st class, food exceptional had mini beef wellington as a starter and pan fried duck breast with a beetroot purée, delicious. Would definitely recommend and will be back for more luxury and pampering.
