Such a beautiful and romantic hotel for an anniversary (and birthday) getaway. From the rooms, to the gardens, to the food, to the staff - everything was beyond perfect!

I’ve wanted to stay here for a while and was able to secure a winery partner rate that made it slightly more affordable for around $750 a night (still very high). For my birthday trip I was more than happy to make the splurge. We came in on a Friday afternoon and came to the front with valet. I had read in many spots that valet was free and valet didn’t have any posted cost nor did the attendants mention a cost. We came in to the gorgeous lobby and were able to check in quickly with some bubbly. We were taken with our luggage to room 5. At first glance the room was gorgeous- a small living room area with windows, a desk, a tea kettle and some free snacks. The main bed area was large with a nice tv and big closet. The bathroom was quite large but we had almost no sink space to put makeup and skin care stuff. I noticed instantly our room had a mobile AC unit near the bed- I’ve had one before in my apartment when my AC was out. I wasn’t sure if all rooms had one to make it cooler or what so I disregarded it for the time being. The provided robes and green slippers were a nice touch. We explored the pool area for a bit- the pool was nice and the staff there was always great, especially Chris. I did find it weird the only ice area was at the pool for such a large property. When we got back to the room they had left some Gloria ferrer bubbles and cake for my birthday which was so generous. The property itself was so well done and gorgeous, you truly had no idea you were in the middle of Sonoma. The walk ability to down town was a huge plus too. We came back to the hotel bar for a night cap which was quite tasty. Beds were pretty soft, softer than our preference but not bad. Nice pillows and decent tv channels. I was under the impression the bathroom floors would be heated but maybe I was mistaken. Shower products were nice but would have loved if the bathroom wasn’t just a barn door. The next morning we woke up to the room absolutely freezing. The AC was set to 69 but it was 61 in our room. I had a feeling that the room had a brown AC unit but thought again maybe it was a fluke. The tea kettle would not work in any of the plugs which was a bummer. Breakfast at Layla was definitely a highlight and we loved the options- everything was fresh and super large. We did stop in at the coffee shop later in our trip and it was fantastic coffee- I wish it was open until 5 instead of 3, having a cup of coffee after the last wine tasting of the day would have been awesome. We left for some tastings and came back around 1:39pm to the room being 81 degrees. The cleaning staff had opened all the blinds and the room was getting so much light- once again I thought ok let me close the blinds everything will cool down. We hit the pool before our spa treatments and could not find room anywhere. It was a gorgeous day but I don’t think the pool has enough seats for their onsite guests. The pool staff was also openly telling us we could leave anything on a chair and leave half the day and come back- I think that practice is incredibly rude when there’s barely any seats and paying hotel guests can’t sit somewhere for majority of the day because someone’s “saving” a spot all day. For the price of this hotel, I think you should be able to actually sit at a pool seat. Pool wasn’t super clean in the corner either, you could see a sheen of sunscreen. Spa was a highlight- staff was kind, it seemed clean, and services were of high quality. We came back to the room to find it 86 degrees- I knew something was super wrong. I went to the front desk and the staff member acted like I said a dragon was in the room. They did send a maintenance worker who said they thought the filter was dirty. He was very kind and tried to fix things but I felt a bit tricked. When walking the property I did not see one other room with a portable ac unit attached to the window like ours. I think we were put into a room with a broken AC unit with a patchwork fix of a portable unit that could not keep up with the hot day, and hence it also got freezing cold in the room when the sun set. We were checking out the next day so I didn’t fight it but at $1600+ spent for 2 nights, I should be in a room with real working AC. Our final day we spent a short time at the pool before checking out with a slighter late check out which was nice. I noticed they did not put in the $50 credits but they corrected it. I also noticed that valet is NOT free- another thing that was not mentioned once. Overall- I may give it another chance. Spa was nice, Layla and bar were nice, and location was great. I would love to have working AC next time.

A beautiful, well-managed property. So perfectly designed and well-maintained from the room to the lobby to the grounds, bar, restaurant and pool. The front desk staff were so warm and welcoming, the valet men so friendly and professional. The bar is beautiful and the cocktails memorable. We did a quick one night get-away but ended up wishing we had planned to stay more days. We’ll spend three days there next time and just enjoy the tranquility of it all.

Had a lovely 2 day stay at MacArthur Place, where I was working from hotel in between two trips in Northern CA. Everyone I encountered was so friendly and helpful. I arrived at 10am, obviously much too early to check in, and they immediately set me up in their conference room to work for a few hours before the room was ready. Nice room (22), comfy bed, fabulous shower/water pressure, great food at restaurant and bar, lively bar scene starting around 5pm. There's a gorgeous pool with staff serving cold drinks. The loungers and towels could stand to be upgraded. For me the wifi in rooms and common areas was slow but it could have been my phone because it was faster on my laptop. Will come back when I don't have to work!

Absolutely an amazing experience. The grounds and rooms were amazing but nothing compared to their hospitality! Definitely recommend!
