About the Hotel

The Grand Hotel Royal, member of Alberghi Storici d'Italia (Historic Hotels of Italy), is five-star estate in the heart of Sorrento, perched over the sea in a privileged location overlooking the Gulf of Naples and the Mount Vesuvius, surrounded by a large park boasting exotic plants, amazing camellias, orange and lemon trees. A little bit of history - Between the two wars, the hotel welcomed the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy, Francesco Saverio Nitti. Built in 1898, this was the hotel for the aristocracy who flocked from all over Europe to enjoy the grand gala evenings on the terrace high above the sea, with the Gulf of Naples stretched out before them.

A truly special place – we will definitely be back

A truly special place – we will definitely be back We’ve just come to the end of what has been a genuinely wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento, and I can honestly say it has been one of those places that leaves a lasting impression. The setting is simply beautiful. Sitting perfectly on the cliff edge overlooking the stunning Riviera of Sorrento, the hotel has an incredible position, with the sea right in front of you and the most wonderful views. The hotel itself is beautifully appointed, with a real sense of history and the feeling of a property that has been lovingly cared for by the same family over many years. But for me, what really makes this hotel special is the people. From the moment we arrived, the staff across every department were incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming. There is a genuine warmth about them, and you can see that looking after guests is something they take real pride in. I have to give a special mention to the people who looked after our room and, in particular, the wonderful team looking after the sun loungers and the area down by the sea. I seemed to spend most of my time down there swimming in the open water, and they were absolutely fantastic. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their friendliness made those hours by the sea even more enjoyable. The food was excellent, the entertainment was great and the whole hotel has such a wonderful atmosphere. What we particularly loved was the incredible amount of space. Even with other guests around, it never felt crowded or busy. There were so many areas where you could simply sit, relax and enjoy the surroundings that at times it genuinely felt as though we had the place to ourselves. It’s very easy to say that a hotel is beautiful, but what makes somewhere memorable is how you feel when you are there. We felt incredibly relaxed, looked after and very fortunate to have experienced this wonderful hotel. A huge thank you to every member of the Grand Hotel Royal team for making our stay so special. We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and without any hesitation, we will be booking to come back. Sometimes you find a hotel you enjoy, and sometimes you find somewhere you really don’t want to leave. For us, the Grand Hotel Royal is definitely the latter.

Not worth the money. Not even close.

Paid €4000 for 3 nights in a so called luxuary suite. Nope! Not luxurious only nice. So over rated. 5 star barely. The rooms were basically decorated comfortable furnishings though and beds. Air con was freezing. We called it Hotel Penguine. The breakfast was an extensive buffet but average. The staff were mixed in their courtesy. First day reception contradicted me about the booking. I had asked for twin beds he said I hadn’t. First breakfast the staff were inattentive and the gardeners were cutting the grass while we had breakfast and were smoking. Not a 5 star look at all. Second day breakfast staff way better not talking to each other loudly. And more attentive to client needs.

An incredible hotel in the heart of Sorrento

We have recently returned from Grand Hotel Royal after spending 10 nights there. We had a wonderful time and would certainly return to this fantastic hotel. Located about a 5 minute walk from the centre of the city, this hotel is in a perfect location with everything accessible to you. The hotel is in great condition with the gardens immaculately maintained. There is beautiful hotel bar which is an ideal location to watch the sunset from. They was often evening music as well which made watching the sunset even more special. Our room had everything we needed - it was very comfortable and kept very clean. There was water supplied to our room everyday and staff were very accommodating if we required anything else. The breakfast is served in their restaurant, there is a good selection of everything you would want as well as an egg station where a chef will make fresh omelettes for you. There is also a pool and a beach bar which serve an array of lighter and bigger lunches. Their evening restaurant overlooks the beautiful views from the hotel and is a lovely place to have an evening meal. All of the food was to a very high standard and was very good. We loved spending our days relaxing by the pool. Both the pool and beach almost always have sun loungers available so there is no need to reserve them. Both of the lifeguards were incredibly helpful and very friendly. Staff would often walk around and ask whether we were ok and whether we would like a drink. The gym is very good and all machines and equipment were in good condition. I would suggest that another treadmill would be helpful as sometimes you could be waiting for it to become available. The spa was also lovely, if a little pricey, and we really enjoyed our treatment. All in all, we had a wonderful time. All of the staff were lovely and we really felt at home during our visit. Thank you for an incredible holiday!

Had the most perfect time at the Royal, from the minute we arrived the staff were so friendly and attentive. The Hotel is beautiful, italian marble and modern facilities. We were upgraded from a luxury suite to a Royal Junior suite with a view and Jacuzzi which made our stay even more incredible. The Pool is large and beautiful, great sunbeds and Beach area too is fabulous , the staff on Beach area and Beach Restaurant their were so attentive and worked so hard to make our stay memorable. Bring your snorkels as we did this everyday and saw good range of fish. I was here with my Husband and 13 year old son and he was not bored and loved it. We were so sad to leave but we will be back
