About the Hotel

The Grand Hotel Royal, member of Alberghi Storici d'Italia (Historic Hotels of Italy), is five-star estate in the heart of Sorrento, perched over the sea in a privileged location overlooking the Gulf of Naples and the Mount Vesuvius, surrounded by a large park boasting exotic plants, amazing camellias, orange and lemon trees. A little bit of history - Between the two wars, the hotel welcomed the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy, Francesco Saverio Nitti. Built in 1898, this was the hotel for the aristocracy who flocked from all over Europe to enjoy the grand gala evenings on the terrace high above the sea, with the Gulf of Naples stretched out before them.

Reviews for Grand Hotel Royal

Heavenly Property w/picturesque views of the sea!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This hotel was even more beautiful than the photos online, the beautifully-manicured grounds are absolutely incredible. Walk to the outside terrace or the pool area and you are surrounded by lemon and orange trees and swaying, tall palms! The walk to the ocean level is equally beautiful as you wind down the cliff on a walkable path that feels like being in a cave with occasional open views of the bay of Naples. The hotel is beautiful even in the lobby and rooms. We had a prestige ocean front room with a direct view of Mt. Vesuvius which was so comfortable and clean. The bed are comfortable with high quality sheets and pillows. The hotel staff really tend to your every need. The daily breakfast was really good with a lot variety including an omelette bar and lunch at the restaurant by the pool also offered some delicious choices. This hotel really exceeded our expectations and it was sad to leave such a beautiful property.

The Grand Hotel Royal is immaculate, with beautiful rooms and exceptional waiting staff. However, several wedding parties during our first week created a lot of noise, making it hard to relax. The dinner dress code (long trousers for men) was not enforced, despite being told it would be. Also, the lunch and dinner menus were the same every day, and we only discovered the A La Carte option after questioning staff. A stunning hotel overall, but some inconsistencies took away from the 5-star experience.

Grand Hotel perfect for a visit to the Almalfi Coast.

Wonderful hotel near the heart of Sorrento. A few minutes walk into the main area, but that's a good thing because it is generally too crowded in the town itself so it is great being a bit away from the crowds. This hotel has exquisite outdoor areas especially the gardens and patio in the back overlooking the sea. There are tables and chairs and table service so that you can drink and snack while enjoying the view. This is a somewhat old fashioned hotel that has music in the sitting areas - a piano player - to just enjoy the atmosphere.. This was my second time here. I recommend the rooms overlooking the sea rather than the road. Breakfast is in their grand dining room and is elegant. I would definitely come back!

This Hotel has it all! Stunning views of the Sea, the location is centrally located to downtown and ferry marinas.

This Hotel is one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed. The location to downtown is walkable. The proximity to the ferry marina was 5 minutes away, which you can venture out to Amalfi, Capri, Positano and Naples. The grounds are beautiful with a gorgeous pool area and elevator down to the beach area which is a deck by the sea with swimming area. Just simply stunning and impeccably clean.

A fantastic hotel with old-world standards: Rosario, the manager was so welcoming every time we entered the restaurant. Francesco was as well, and completely impressed us by delaying our whole fish each dinner at the table. Pauloa always assisted us with any need we might have in the restaurant. Davide, Sarah, Ettore, Serena made us feel so welcome with perfect service in the absolutely stunningly beautiful grand restaurant each day. Valeria was always such a welcoming presence at the egg station at the sumptuous and extensive breakfast buffet each morning. Salvatore and Marco did such a good job keeping us fed and hydrated while enjoying the beautiful terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples. The terrace is spacious and beautifully decorated and has the very best view of the sunset in the Sorrento.
