The Grand Hotel Royal, member of Alberghi Storici d'Italia (Historic Hotels of Italy), is five-star estate in the heart of Sorrento, perched over the sea in a privileged location overlooking the Gulf of Naples and the Mount Vesuvius, surrounded by a large park boasting exotic plants, amazing camellias, orange and lemon trees. A little bit of history - Between the two wars, the hotel welcomed the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy, Francesco Saverio Nitti. Built in 1898, this was the hotel for the aristocracy who flocked from all over Europe to enjoy the grand gala evenings on the terrace high above the sea, with the Gulf of Naples stretched out before them.

Way overpriced for the stay and service. Pool and cleaning staff were wonderful but front desk staff not helpful and borderline rude. There are nicer hotels for the value.

Myself and me now fiancée stayed here for 1 week. I proposed to on the 4th day and the staff (especially Claudia), were extremely helpful and accommodating. They arranged champagne and flowers at short notice, alongside giving us a Suite upgrade for free. Outside of this the views of the Amalfi were one of the best we experienced, with an amazing private beach area to relax. Would definitely stay at the hotel again if we were to come back to Sorrento!

Very good position, high standard 5 star hotel, nice view, and clean hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. A bit pricey but can recommend this hotel for a visit to Sorrento

We just completed our second stay in 2 years at the Grand Hotel Royal and can report, it just keeps getting better! While last year, it was just the wife and I for 2 nights, we returned this year with our adult kids for 3 nights. Having to book 2 rooms instead of 1 certainly hurt the pocketbook. Before booking, I searched far and wide for a different hotel that I can try to get a similar experience at a cheaper rate since I had to double our stay with the 2 rooms, even going so far as reserving rooms at another place, but as the time ticked closer to our trip, I just kept going back to the memories of our prior stay and simply did not want to miss out, as well as show the kids what a luxury stay really looks like. I ended up canceling the other reservation and never looked back. We booked a prestige water view and premier water view room. The concierge was nice enough to ensure that our rooms were on teh same floor for conveniece and the view was of course spectacular. We spent the majority of our stay at the private "beach", which is simply THE BEST. While the price is steep, I cannot recommend this hotel more.

The staff were excellent and accommodating. The hotel and facilities were clean and well kept. The food was delicious and well made. Had a suite with kids and they automatically doubled all the toiletries and replenished them daily without having to ask. We always had new soaps and plenty of towels. All around wonderful hotel.
