What was once a 16th-century working plantation is now an eco-friendly Caribbean hideaway that pays homage to its storied past. Fond Doux Plantation & Resort, located on the island of Saint Lucia, in the historical center and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Soufrière. The tidy wooden cottages, many cloaked in a crisp white hue, dot the tropical retreat and provide a space for guests to lounge on front porches and enjoy the lush scenery and foliage. Interiors are equally charming, with a blanket of wooden planks coating the floor, rattan furnishings and broad French doors that push open to marry the indoors with the outside.

We enjoyed our stay at Fond doux - the cottage accommodation was excellent, spacious, well decorated & furnished and very comfortable. The water pressure in shower and taps did dip significantly on one day but was otherwise good. The deck was lovely to sit out on, looking out over the greenery and watching the birds. Service - everyone was friendly & helpful throughout from reception, housekeeping and restaurant. Breakfasts included the crispiest bacon and excellent cocoa tea, but other elements varied day to day and could be hit and miss. Eggs nicely cooked to order but sometimes very speedy, other days arrived very late. Buffet items were replenished on request but changed today - so if you see a favourite, don't defer it to next day! Dinners & lunches - we stayed 4 nights and ate at the restaurant on 2 evenings and 2 lunches, portions are generous. Note that sometimes there is a change to a "special buffer menu" without notice, which removes lighter options. We therefore chose not to have lunch on our final day. The garden grounds are beautiful, but we didn't swim in the pools as they are styled & sized more for a plunge and cool rather than a swim. Fond Doux is good value, comfortable and in a beautiful setting. Very covenient to visit Project Chocolat, Tet Paul Nature Trail and other local restaurants and sights. We arranged transfers and taxis direct with a local company and that worked well.

Liked · We spent a fantastic week at this resort to relax and recharge. A lush and tranquil place, exactly as we imagined it to be before our travel to Saint Lucia. Our room was very spacious and clean, with a modern bathroom and a small kitchenette. We enjoyed a complimentary breakfast every morning, and ate lunch and/or dinner on a daily basis, all offered a la carte (English, American, Caribbean) or as a buffet with good food choices, complemented with local juices and desserts. The beautiful rustic restaurant is surrounded by lots of greenery complete with mango trees, cocoa, banana, palms, etc, and visited by a variety of birds, including hummingbirds. We spent most of our time on the property, taking advantage of the large and three small pools, reading in the shade under the palapa, which also offers a small library of books. We hiked the trail loop (although somewhat steep, it should take less than an hour), with an amazing view of the Petit Piton. We also took the daily complimentary shuttle, a 15-min ride to Sugar Beach, with a nice beach and restaurants. Our special thanks to the friendly and helpful staff at the reception, room service, the waiters, cooks, drivers, chocolate tour staff, gift shop, and maintenance!

It is so picturesque, it is set in the most beautiful tropical garden. Food was excellent and the staff was very helpful. We used the Modified American Meal Plan and we did the on-site Chocolate making tour, both of which I would also recommend, esp. for families.

Very unappealing An upgrade was requested but was told there was no availability. When we requested a refund , the option to see another room was given. An upgrade to your pool area and the aesthetics is necessary to elevate your guest’s experience.

A rustic old style plantation cabin with en-suite shower room and air con suited our needs really well. The greatest bit about our accommodation was the location amongst established gardens with so many fruit or spice bearing trees right on the edge if the rainforest. All of the cabins had a private feel amongst the vegetation, complete with visiting hummingbirds and other wildlife. In spite of this the concrete paths were easy to walk along and we'll lit at night. We loved walking too and from the restaurant for breakfast in the morning and we would take different paths deeper into the gardens. The bed was huge and the mattress and pillows comfy. A mosquito net adorned the bed and although the climate was near perfect when we visit the air con was welcome when returning from a day out. There was a ceiling fan too. The room had a fridge although we would have welcomed the ability to better prep our own food had we so wished. I understand there are other lodges that do provide that facility. Fond Doux is well located with a short drive to the sulpher springs, diamond waterfalls and the Piton trail is very local and worth doing. We walked all the way from the resort although the climb up the road is strenuous in places if hot. If you drive up to the start of the trail it is quite easy with wonderful views. We enjoyed driving on some of the lesser known roads in the hills with colourful local houses and amazing scenery. Car hire is almost essential unless you are happy to use local buses or use the complimentary beach shuttle (we did not as we had hired a car). I recommend hiring a small SUV which copes with the roads better but you don't necessarily need 4WD. Watch out for damgerous overtaking by other drivers though! Each and every staff member we met at Fond Doux was simply lovely. From the daily cleaning staff to the gardeners to the restaurant serving staff, receptionists and security team. There must be an ethos here instilled by the owners that creates such an atmosphere amongst staff. We wholeheartedly recommend this place for all these reasons.
