This is a lovely oasis of unique proportions. The ambience is relaxed, and the service is extraordinary. This is an amazing place to bring family, as there are plenty of children, but well behaved and not an annoyance. The food here is fantastic, and the executive chef is prepared to customize and create dishes around dietary restrictions. The spa is a great retreat for solitude and is highly recommended. Plan on staying on the property, as there is little to see in town, but excursions are recommended if you want to explore. A couple of suggestions to management: 1. Turn off music on Sisal and Regatta patios as it competes with the music piped across the resort speakers, which are located everywhere. It's very distracting and unpleasant. 2. Add hooks in the suite showers, as there is no place to hang them or a robe. 3. Delay firing up the resort music until 9 am as 8 am is a little aggressive while one awakes with their coffee, trying to enjoy the sounds of the ocean and local environment. Your staff is amazing, and you should be commended for their desire to please and attend to guests' requests. Thank you for a great vacation. Bruce - Toronto, Canada

Wow, Just an EPIC place and location to decompress

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

If you want a place that is high-end and top-notch service and restaurants, this is the place to go. As a family of 3 with a college student, it was a perfect place for us to decompress and just relax. I would highly recommend it. There is no downtown to shop. South Caicos is very simple. The kayaking and outside activities perfect! They have a great gym and morning yoga. And as a Bonvoy Titanium member, I was able to take advantage of the membership amenities

New Paradise Destination

Im a seasoned hotelier who have traveled around the world, stayed at some of the world's luxurious hotels. While the Salterra was in development, I knew I had to experience this resort. On the day of my arrival, my flight from New York was delayed. I was in touched with the management and staff who was will to do everything in their control to get me into the island. Upon my arrival, I was upgraded to a one bedroom suite with an outdoor patio and hammock. I was given a personal butler who took care of all of my restaurant reservations, tours and coordinate everything. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary, we were given complimentary champagne, chocolates and daily amenities. This hotel is the perfect venue to celebrate an occasion, very safe, romantic, quiet yet lively. Although the resort is privately located, there is no reasons to go outside, there are several restaurants and bars catered to all different food. The pool is outstanding and the beach is the best in the world. The pool and beach is cleaned and maintained every single day. The best part of this resort is the excellent service from all of the management and staff, they continue asking if everything is OK and if you are having any issues. They are serious about taking care of their guests. They spoil you with kindness. After my first day, I have made about five new friends who are staff members. I had the privilege to meet the General Manager John Hazard who was there to welcome us and interacting with all of the guests. Many of the staff whom I don't remember but I like to acknowledge Arup in the breakfast room who knew exactly how I like my coffee and what I would usually eat. He spoiled us with his kindness. Also, Sohoni in The Inroom dining, she found out I was looking for fresh water coconut, she went out of her way to find a few for me and my wife which was truly appreciated. This is what hospitality is all about. In summary, I highly recommend this resort and try getting the one bedroom suite on the ground floor which is easily accessible to the beach, pool and restaurants. I'm already making plans for a second visit. Thank you Salterra to the management and Staff. Trip type Vacation Travel group Couple Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Rooms Spacious and luxurious Nearby activities Snorkeling and numerous beaches. Trip of a Lifetime - Staff, Food, Ambience and Service from another planet!

We've always said, when you find a great place don't tell anyone, but with this place we have to make an exception! We are on our jet home from an unforgettable week at Salterra, and can't stop raving about it to everyone! From the second we stepped onto the property, with its jaw-dropping fossilized coral stone architecture and those powdery white beaches stretching endlessly before turquoise waters, I felt like I'd escaped to my own private heaven. Staff greeted us Downton Abbey style with cold towels and champagne. And the magic began - Our butler, Greg, was an absolute magician—like a genie he appeared with everything we imagined and much we didn't even think of. For example - fruit plates and when he noticed we didn't eat the melon he insisted to know our favorite fruit. I wish we could take him with us. Seriously! Leslie at Cobo and Rafi both are experts at cocktails. We are spoiled NYC afficionados. Trust. Spritzing zest into the air space above a perfect martini barely happens anymore. To be in such a remote place - and see it makes a heart melt. Vaish, our server on a few occasions, was equally amazing, serving up meals with a genuine smile. We wish her so much success. The entire staff's warmth and attentiveness made it feel personal, like we were VIPs at a friend's lavish estate. No joke - the training or whatever magic they do with staff - it's unparalleled. We regularly stay at Ritz, Four Seasons, Montage, sensai and One & Only properties. This place has something so special. The varied backgrounds and richness of staff along with the sense that they are genuinely happy making you happy... It's just wonderful. The gym attendant was a yogi and after he saw my practice he came up to offer a meditation at the end and stretch me. That five-course tasting menu at Brine with local salt pairings, paired with exquisite wines, we couldn't get over how they could get this beautiful food to such a remote place. The inventive and creative chefs are mine blowing. Christiano runs a beautiful team over there. Housekeeping - and forgive me for forgetting names here - left me in tears. The sweetest kindest most thoughtful people I have ever had take care of a room. The little treats and surprises every night made us giggle and filled us with joy before bed. We lounged by the three stunning infinity pools, indulged in a spa massages that melted away every stress, and had oil gua sha experts. I pride myself in the wellness experience every morning at home (2 hours a day!) and it's hard to teach me new tricks but the spa team was incredible. Real pros. Don't skip the spa. Mandatory! My husband got me almond milk cappuccino every morning from flamingo Cafe along with a croissant made with fresh imported French butter. Yes. Seriously. Staff there were so knowledgeable - about everything from beans to pastry. I'm not an ice cream person but had 4 raspberry guava sorbets (more than ive had in 5 years) in a beautifully balanced waffle cone. Not too sweet. Not too big. Goldilocks. Salterra isn't just a resort; it's a retreat and dream. Where luxury meets raw natural beauty. Management - Bravo. My husband and I just retired and both know intimately what it takes to run a successful business. You deserve accolades for the way staff are trained, the effort in upkeep and commitment to not only excellence - but a service level totally new in the industry. Genuine passion for hospitality and preservation to a beautiful natural oasis. Thank you and please thank everyone who we missed here on our behalf - The Joneses

Poorly Managed

An amendment/addendum to my earlier review: The level of service provided by desk clerks, wait staff, activities staff and even front desk management is adequate. The restaurant service can be very slow, but all staff are polite and courteous. Not top quality, but no bad enough to make a complaint. The front desk manager acknowledged the multiple service deficiencies regarding our arrival and did what she was able to ensure an improved level of service for the remainder of our stay. The root cause of the service issue is at the executive management level. There were two vacation groups present during our stay (Saturday - Wednesday and Wednesday - Saturday). Each group was allowed to reserve every one of their 3-4 tour boats every day of the week excluding Wednesday. The result is that, despite having requested 2-3 days of SCUBA diving 2 months before our arrival, SCUBA diving and several other activities were completely unavailable for most of our stay. Had someone mentioned these activities weren't available when I first asked, we could have come a different week. One group set off a full-scale fireworks display at 21:30 without any notice given to the other guests. As there is no real nightlife available, I can imagine my husband and I were not the only people unpleasantly surprised whilst getting ready for bed. Further, the groups were allowed to buy out the restaurants for a few days which is why Regatta and Brine were "closed" many days that week. The few non-resort restaurants are close Sunday and Monday so the only remaining options are to eat a bar or in your room. Aside from the vacation group issue, the place was running out of food by the middle of the week. Buffet breakfast turned into a la carte and by Friday multiple dishes were unavailable. Inexcusably poor planning. Perhaps it didn't occur to executive management that the people paying rack rate would expect the same services available to those paying a likely discounted group rate? Perhaps they simply don't care. Regardless, any truly "luxury" resort would never restrict services due to the present of a large vacation group. A resort providing a "luxury" level of service recognizes that when people pay a high rate for services, they actually expect for those services to actually be available to them regardless of who else is present. Original Review (Edited for length) I had a bad feeling when I boarded to plane for South Caicos in Miami and nearly everyone else on the flight was a car salesman… The majority of the hotel had been booked for a large vacation group of VW sales managers and the resort clearly prioritized this group over the other guests. We arrived to check in with the transport service to the resort when there were only 10 or so others. Unwilling to stand out in the sun, break through the mass of the tour group and demand to be let onto the next shuttle, we were left to sit and rot. We were finally driven over on the last of 5 vans to the resort. Upon arrival, we were shuttled into a line for the vacation group and had to point out we’re not part of it. When the check-in desk person pulled us aside, he pointed us to the drinks area for the tour group and said we could have some too. I declined to walk over to their welcome set up and eventually he brought our drinks. No personalized check in going over details of my included benefits, no mention of the "guaranteed upgrade" we were simply given our keys and a short tour on the way to our room. We then waited 2 hours for our luggage to be brought to the room. On the plus side, the premises are new and attractive, the rooms are fine, the food is okay. The beach is nice for a walk but not great for swimming. Never come here when a large group has booked out the resort!
