Thornbury Castle and Tudor Gardens

Visiting from Australia we booked a night at Thornbury Castle. We had the loveliest stay, we arrived and were given an upgrade to a suite. All the staff we interacted with were so welcoming and friendly. Our room was amazing. Everything about the stay was perfect. It is such a peaceful location, beautiful gardens to walk around, loved reading all the history. Our dinner was absolutely delicious no complaints, beautifully presented. Will definitely stay again when we visit the UK again. Thank you so much for our lovely stay!

The building is beautiful and full of history. The location is easy to find via satnav and is close to the lovely town. All staff were welcoming/helpful and friendly. Room (De Percy) was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in a style befitting the castle. A wonderful bathroom. The bed (typical of the hotel style) was very high (almost need a stool to reach it) but very comfy. It was a lovely peaceful place despite there being a wedding in progress. The communal rooms were amazing with super decor/comfort and a lovely warm atmosphere. The gardens were lovely to wander around with different areas and many places to stop, sit and relax.

We received outstanding service in this beautiful hotel. The food was exquisite and the staff are exceptionally welcoming and friendly. The room had everything that you could possibly need and the bed was extremely comfortable. We had an amazing stay and will definitely return.

We had a fantastic stay at Thurnbusy Castle! The castle is beautiful, the rooms are full of character and very comfy, and we enjoyed exploring the grounds. We were upgraded to superior deluxe and were blown away by how lovely the room was! We had dinner included in our booking and all of the food was delicious. We would love to go back!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this 500 year old castle in the Cotswolds. I was surprised at how much they could do with such an old structure. Well maintained. The grounds are lovely, with formal gardens, settings, and even a vegetable garden to stroll through. One evening they had the local theatre company present an outdoor play on the substantial grounds. It was lovely, and they went right on despite intermittent showers! We took a historical tour of the property one morning, very interesting. The staff is superb. These young staffers well trained, mature beyond their years, and so professional. Helpful, respectful, a pleasure. The rooms present a bit of a challenge as they tend dark and the artificial lighting is not very bright. I personally prefer a king size bed, our suite did not have. The furniture is of the older, velvet, heavy variety - not too comfortable but perhaps consistent with the whole theme. They did a lot with the bathroom, pretty modern, nice overhead rain-shower, heated floor, two sinks. The whole property is overall well maintained and clean. The library/lounge off of reception is grand and magnificent. The property in general is quiet and relaxing. The restaurant may or may not be to your liking, but that is a different review, and the staff again beautifully trained and exceptionally polite. On balance, if you are looking for a lovely old castle in the Cotswolds for holiday, this is a solid choice.
