Unsafe

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Disturbing, unsafe, and unacceptable experience — not what you expect from a luxury hotel We came to this hotel expecting a peaceful and luxurious experience. Instead, we left feeling disturbed, unsafe, and deeply disappointed. From 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., a group of six individuals completely took over the pool and jacuzzi area — and they were clearly not hotel guests. They kept asking us questions that made it obvious — like whether the white bathrobes were provided by the hotel (even though those robes are left in every guest room). Their appearance, behavior, and conversations all pointed to something being very wrong. They looked strung out, acted erratically, spoke in the disoriented, agitated way of someone under the influence of drugs, and one of them was openly smoking in front of us. At one point, one man told us he had been to prison multiple times. After hearing that, we didn’t feel safe speaking to hotel staff about the situation, fearing possible retaliation. They turned the jacuzzi bubbles on constantly, even when we asked them not to. They brought in a cooler full of alcohol, a rotisserie chicken, and other food from a local store. They stared at us inappropriately — four grown men watching us, as we tried to relax in swimsuits, made us feel unsafe and exposed. Later during the s’mores activity, they took over all of the fire pits and chairs, again behaving as though they owned the space. Their loud, inappropriate conversations were not just annoying — they were disturbing. My 10-year-old niece was visibly frightened, and my 65-year-old mother, who came here to relax, ended up scared and deeply uncomfortable. The most shocking part is that this happened over eight full hours, and not a single hotel staff member came to check the area or ensure the safety of guests. What kind of luxury hotel allows this? This was not a minor inconvenience. It was a complete breakdown of guest safety, hospitality, and basic respect. We paid for an elevated, secure experience — instead, we shared the space with people who made us feel threatened, uncomfortable, and unsafe the entire day. We demand a full refund. What happened here was not just disappointing — it was unacceptable.

Extremely overpriced and definitely not a 4 star experience!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Landing Review We were so disappointed with our recent stay at The Landing. This is the first time that Trip Advisor has steered us completely wrong. It was listed as a 4 star property with lots of positive reviews, and I am definitely not understanding either the 4 star rating or the positive reviews. Let me start by saying that if it was listed as a 2 or 3 star property, with prices reflecting that, I would have been very happy with my stay. I just had much higher expectations, given the fact that my room was $900/night, including fees and taxes. I have stayed at many 3, 4, and 5 star hotels, and feel like I have a pretty good perspective of what type of hotel should come with any given price. The hotel itself was *fine*, but lots of little things kept going awry. Some of these things I’ll be mentioning are nit-picky, and I recognize that, but all added together, it becomes a very mediocre hotel for a high price. To begin, I made my reservation online and never received a confirmation email. My mother and I reserved two rooms, each with different email addresses, and neither one of us received a confirmation. I called the hotel to put in a request for an upper floor room for both of us, and rooms as near each other as could be accommodated, understanding that I had booked a lake view room and she did not, so they would not be right next to each other. The reservation agent said he’d send emails reflecting this, but again, neither my mom nor I received an email. I called a week later to let them know we hadn’t received emails, and the agent could not help me, but I had confirmation numbers, so hoped for the best. Upon arrival, we were told that our rooms would be in the same building but different floors. When I got to my room, it was on the ground floor. I never like to stay on the ground floor, and I was especially unhappy with this ground floor room as the place is motel-style, where there is a parking lot by your front door with an exterior entry. The sliding glass door on the back side of the room to the “lake view” also had a view of a street/parking lot and gate. I suppose I could see the lake in between the cars and wrought iron fence poles, but just barely. When I asked at the front desk about that being a lake view, they told me that it was luck of the draw which floor you were on. In fairness, the upper floors do have a nice lake view. The ground floor should not have the same upcharge as those rooms. My mom’s room was less expensive, as she did not pay for a lake view, and her view of the trees was much nicer than the traffic and view of the cars from my more expensive room. Additionally, the sliding glass door to my room had a broken lock, so it was being held shut by a secondary lock. There is no a/c in the hotel, and I didn’t feel safe leaving my sliding glass door open since I was on a ground floor to a public road. (The aforementioned fence is on the other side of the public road). Additional complaints: The rooms at the hotel have paper thin walls and connecting doors, such that I could hear my neighbors' comings and goings, their dog whining, their children crying, and their conversations, almost as if they were in my same room. There are no water bottles/boxes provided with the rooms; not even in the fitness studio. The bedding in my room was mismatched, with one pillow case having stripes and the other being plain (again, nitpicky, but not 4 star level). The coffee bar in the lobby does not have milk or cream; only coffee mate. I went to use the fitness room and one of the two treadmills was out of service as was one of the two rowing machines. The Saturday/Sunday morning front desk gal had no interest in her job. She sat at her desk reading a book, even when guests came in. Only if you went directly to her desk would she look up and grudgingly provide help. She let us know that it was a summer job and she would be leaving in early August. Positives: The other front desk personnel were friendly, and the hotel-provided shuttle service was very convenient and the drivers were very friendly and helpful. The s’mores kits were a nice touch, as was the complimentary champagne. All in all, the Landing feels like a typical 2 to 3 star hotel with a couple of additional touches. Definitely not worth $900/night. My husband and I had a reservation to stay here again in August, which we have canceled.

Wonderful Experience! The Landing is Top Notch!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel is amazing! Do not hesitate to book! My husband and I visited in June for his 40th and Father's Day weekend. It was a trip we will always remember and partly from the excellent staff and service at this hotel. Immediately upon our arrival we were greeted by the front desk and checked in. They then had a staff member give us a personalized tour of the hotel and grounds and showed us to our room. The room was clean, large, had beautiful views of the lake and nice amenities in the bathroom such as a toilet seat warmer, towel warmer, and heated floors. We were also given passes for the beach just behind the hotel. There were so many things to do in Lake Tahoe that we unfortunately never made it to the beach but it looked wonderful. Also of note, there was a wedding the weekend we stayed and upon check in the front desk notified us since our room was next to the area the wedding and reception would be held. We appreciated the heads up but the band the couple selected was excellent! We were actually a little sad when they said they were ending the wedding at 10pm to ensure noise was not too loud at the hotel. We sat on our balcony that night and enjoyed the music! The hotel also offers a shuttle that takes you anywhere within a 2 mile radius. It was so easy and convenient to use! We never waited long and if we were waiting a little bit the staff would call the shuttle drive to inquire about ETA. There was also plenty of parking on site and we never had to search for a spot for our rental car. There is a nice pool with a hot tub and they also have several firepits on location. When you enter into the lobby there is a small coffee/hot chocolate bar and little Smore kits that you can use at the firepits! The Landing has thought of it all and truly offered top notch service. We had a charcuterie board and wine at Jimmy's and it was great! Unfortunately we did not get around to having another meal there but we hope to next time we return. The Landing made our trip so memorable and we really appreciated the top notch service.

The Landing is a great place to stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We had a great experience at the Landing. The location was perfect. Access to the lake was exceptional. The food at Jimmy's was great. We also found the front desk and bell staff to be top-notch. We would be excited to stay here again in the future. My only small wish is a bar at the pool along with towels, but these are small requests in the grand scheme of things.
