Ultra Disappointing Experience AVOID

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I recently stayed at Anantara in the Maldives for a week, paying a staggering $1,000 per night. Having been a loyal Anantara customer for years and having had a wonderful first visit, I expected nothing short of an amazing trip. Instead, I encountered an experience so poor it was almost unbelievable. To start, our villa host, Seda, was outright inhospitable and unresponsive. Despite numerous messages and requests, she barely acknowledged us, making us feel completely neglected. Adding insult to injury, we tried to amend our booking to include half board upon arrival and were told it would cost an outrageous $2,000. This is in contrast to the mere $200 difference if booked initially on Booking.com. Even after Booking.com reached out to the hotel, to upgrade us to half board, the staff pretended not to receive the email, displaying a level of unprofessionalism that is simply unacceptable. The buffet, once a highlight of our stay, was now a disgrace. The selection was pathetically limited, with mostly empty trays and an overabundance of rice dishes. The quality had plummeted, making me wonder if this was even the same resort I had praised before. We were charged $300 for two people at the buffet, which was a complete rip-off. During “BBQ” night, there were no beef dishes at all—just two different types of fish, rice, and some melon. It felt like we were being robbed, paying $150 per person for such a meager and disappointing buffet. The restaurant food quality also severely declined. Not only was the buffet subpar, but the sushi was shockingly below average and incredibly disappointing. The spa was nothing short of a disaster. The facility was dirty, neglected, and felt abandoned. The steam room was falling apart with tiles coming off the walls and floor, and brown discoloration was evident everywhere. The bathroom and changing rooms were in complete disarray, with towels thrown about, creating a thoroughly uninviting atmosphere (see picture). Additionally, the views were generally not that great. If you opt for the sunrise view on the water, your villa faces directly towards the staff island, which looks industrial and completely ruins the idyllic island vibe. All around the island, you can see floodlights from other islands in the distance and quite large industrial-style cities nearby, ruining the middle-of-nowhere island life experience. While Waheed, the cleaner of our room, provided outstanding service and went above and beyond, the rest of the staff were inconsistent and largely inattentive. This inconsistency marred our stay, overshadowing the efforts of the few who were excellent. The final straw was when Seda, our villa host, didn’t even bother to ask if we enjoyed our stay as we were checking out. This blatant disregard for our experience as guests is absolutely inexcusable and highlights the overall lack of care from the staff. It was as if no one cared about our satisfaction or well-being during our stay. To anyone considering a stay at Anantara Maldives, I strongly urge you to reconsider. The drastic decline in service and quality is alarming, and there are far better options available in the Maldives. Do not waste your money on this disappointing and poorly managed resort.

Spent 5 nights here with a large family visit but had a water villa to myself - best resort experience I’ve ever had, beautiful rooms, great hospitality, stunning location! Lots of food options, and activities! I could live here!

Magical time at Anantara Dhigu

We had an amazing experience from start to finish. It rained the first 48 hours but the storm was magical. An experience my family and i will cherish forever. Special mention to Kadir for looking after us, very friendly and super accomodating. Thank you all

Great food, rooms. Aqua sports could be priced better

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The buffet style breakfast was very lavish. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Room service was alright. Diving and water sports were exorbitantly priced I felt. So we ended up hanging out on the beach instead of going for Aqua sports. Aqua adventures should be priced better given that this is a luxury resort and overall cost of stay is high in any case.
