Edgewood Tahoe Resort

All I can say it was an Outstanding experience. The view of the lake and mountains were breath taking. there is little room for improvement.

We stayed in a midweek shoulder-season non-view room that cost $1,360 after all the fees (it was $150 less on Expedia than booking direct but I prefer to book direct). We expected to be wowed but were not. Our room wasn't ready until a half hour after check-in (4pm) and when we used the bathroom sink, it didn't drain at all. It was too late to have engineering come up to so we just didn't use it much during the rest of our stay. At dinner, the food was high quality but lukewarm at best, small portions for the $50+ entree cost and our server never checked on us until we were ready for the bill. The beds were way too firm and the pillows too bulky/cheap foam. When I checked out and mentioned to the front desk about the sink and that she might want to pass that along to management, she was aloof at best. I was a marketer of luxury hotel properties before retiring and I know what is expected. We live in Montecito and are used to expensive hotels and restaurants but this was the most over-priced and least satisfying luxury stay we've had. We preferred the $240 room at the new Limelight Mammoth we had the night before that included a full breakfast. Pros are the lake location, quiet room, well-designed bathroom and pleasant valet and bell staff. If the room was 1/3 the price, I'd rate it 4 stars. It was packed with loud golfers so perhaps this is more up their alley.

The location and views are incredible, and the golf course is stunning. I was amazed at the meticulous care given to the course and the overall beauty of the landscape. Service at Edgewood was very poor. Check-in was not good, largely due to the poor attitude of the front desk staff, and that pattern continued through the week. While waiting in line, I was taken aback by how rudely staff spoke to other guests. There were some bright spots — room service and a few servers in the restaurants — but overall, this was some of the worst service I've experienced, particularly at check-in, check-out, and the Brooks bar. Frankly, I've had much better service at Hampton Inns. Customer service clearly isn't a priority at the Edgewood.

Beautiful property, subpar service. The stay simply did not feel “generous” in the way a five-star resort should. The property itself is stunning, but the overall hospitality misses the mark in too many small ways. Amenities and things to do felt limited, and some of the advertised entertainment never really materialized. The valet team was great, but otherwise the staff could be friendlier and make more of an effort to create a warm, welcoming experience. From a value standpoint, Edgewood really misses the mark. At these room rates, you should get a complimentary round of golf—or at the very least, the experience should feel special throughout your stay. Instead, we were literally “shooed” away from a car show taking place on the property we were paying to stay at, as if we were alley cats rather than resort guests. Even the small things reinforce that feeling. One bath bomb in the room for a five-night stay, accompanied by a brochure inviting you to purchase more, just feels tacky at a five-star resort. Even the toilet paper felt inexplicably cheap. None of these things individually ruins a vacation, but collectively they create an experience that feels more focused on extracting another dollar than making guests feel taken care of. That goes back to the same issue: the experience just doesn’t feel generous. For what Edgewood charges, it would be very hard to rationalize staying here again. Such a beautiful property with so much potential.
