Disappointing Service and Subpar Rooms: Not a 5-Star Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 19 hours ago

We were shocked by the lack of luxury at Edgewood Tahoe. While the common areas are beautiful, the guest experience and room quality are closer to a 3-star level. The room amenities were significantly outdated (early 2000s decor) and lacked basic comfort. Our mattress was lumpy, and the towels were incredibly rough—comparable to sandpaper. Furthermore, for a luxury resort, seeing cheap plastic soap dispensers screwed into the shower walls like a budget gym was disappointing. The biggest issue, however, was the staff training. We were initially placed in a room with non-functional USB ports and no complimentary water. That night, we were kept awake by high-pitched shrieking from a neighboring room. When we alerted security, they were unhelpful, eventually suggesting we "use earplugs" for a noise that was clearly audible through walls and recordings. When I politely asked to be moved so my family could sleep, the front desk attempted to guilt-trip me instead of providing a solution before moving us, very reluctantly. Communication is also non-existent between shifts. I spent hours trying to move a breakfast reservation, being bounced between a front desk that "couldn't help" and a concierge that had already left. Messages weren't passed on, and notes weren't kept. For the price point, the hospitality is severely lacking. I would not recommend this resort to friends or family.

Bad service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Beautiful hotel that is a huge swing and miss on service. From check-in, to bar/restaurant service, and shuttle service, it is clear service is not a priority. We booked trip as a ski vacation. It is was very inconvenient. The shuttle service is slow and inconsistent; we often waited 45 minutes to get to town even first thing in morning. When I politely mentioned this was a concern to the manager Sal, I was told tough luck, it can take that long. The restraunts are overcrowded, making reservations necessary even for breakfast and lunch. On more than one occasion we sat at bar for 20-30 minutes and was never greeted before getting up and leaving. They automatically charge 50 dollars for parking, even if you have no vehicle and have private transportation take you. I had to ask 3 times for the charge to be removed (clearly they are hoping most wont notice). Also while not a huge deal but there is absolutely no apres ski, unless you want at 30 dollar burger from the bar. The coffee and snack bar also clos s very early. Do not be confused, this is not on the level of a Ritz, Four Seasons, Montage or St. Regis despite similar pricing. The lone bright spot was the exceptional staff at ski/sports shop and the contracted Ski Butlers staff who were excellent.

Good but not great

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Overall good experience, but they do not deserve a Michelin key star. The hotel was good for a five star hotel, but not exceptional. Even the lowest ranked Four Seasons or a moderate ranked Ritz Carlton is lightyears ahead of this resorts professional services and attention to detail. Overall would recommend on location, cleanliness and friendliness, but nothing to call home about for exceptional hospitality.

It's a great place to get away. I recommend, you will enjoy yourself. I believe it's the best hotel in Lake Tahoe. It has good service over all.
