I loved this inn so much!!!! I’m not even sure where to start. The photos don’t do it justice. It is truly one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. The inn is a place where time stops and you feel like you’ve on vacation. It’s also so Vermont. The room was great, because it was cute and ridiculously cozy, but it’s the property and manor itself that are spectacular. The art collection is noteworthy, especially the way it is curated in the space. There are tons of welcoming places in the main building to play a game, read a book, or hangout with the ones you love. We visited in winter and the roaring fireplaces in the inn and our bedroom made everything feel so warm. The restaurant is phenomenal with fresh and local ingredients. Breakfast is not included, but it’s not to be missed because it is outstanding. Croissants and anything baked fresh like the Dutch baby. Hash on the hill in a skillet was incredible if you like veggies for breakfast. The dinner is elegant, but approachable and rivals any fine dining establishments in the world. If you’re a foodie this is the spot. There are selections off the menu for dietary restrictions like vegan or vegetarian. The chef is brilliant and staff very helpful. Also a kids menu that’s not advertised. There is a lower level of the inn, tucked away bar with mixology. It’s another great place to sit and enjoy the night. I stayed at Edson Hill with my 11 year old son and we loved every minute of it. It’s probably less ideal with very young kids. The room we were in had some noise because it was on the main level. If you are sound sensitive you might want to choose one of the other buildings. I liked the style and cozy vibe of the manor house. The room we were in had everything we needed and the bed is extremely comfortable with high quality linens and real duvet. Heated bathroom is lovely. These touches elevate the experience. Above all, the staff are genuinely some of the kindest, most welcoming people you’ll meet. They’re also an incredible resource for all things Stowe. This inn feels like real Vermont. I left already dreaming about what the property must look like in all four seasons. I’m sure it’s stunning. We’re already planning a return trip!

We had a very enjoyable two night stay here in early October. We had a fireplace deluxe king separate from the main guest house that was spacious, quiet, nicely appointed and very clean. The linens/towels were excellent, the bed super comfy, and the bathroom nicely updated with a walk-in shower. Our only negative was the in room coffee was instant and for the price charged for these rooms Nespresso machines should be available. Other than that, everything about the hotel was top notch, including the restaurant, which was excellent for both dinner and breakfast, with well trained staff and a cozy environment. The tables are a little too cozy as far as spacing and the lack of vegan options for breakfast was a bummer but the fact that they had a vegan option for dinner was greatly appreciated. All in all a great stay and we can't wait for a future visit.

The place and rooms are fantastic, furnished with great taste. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The dinner menu is extremely limited, and if you stay more than one night it quickly becomes a problem. The staff is friendly but clearly not professionally trained. Even basic bread is not served with dinner. The “continental breakfast included” is poor and disappointing. Asking for something as simple as toast is charged at USD 3 plus an automatic gratuity of 8.60 — a shocking total of 11.60 for two slices of toast in a supposed 3-star hotel. The long list of extras is nothing but unpleasant surprises. Overall, style over substance — and certainly not worth the money.

Edson Hill is a very special place with the most beautiful location, large well dressed rooms and friendly staff. Meals are served on the patio with an excellent view of the pool and grounds.

I chose Edson Hill for my anniversary getaway largely due to the reviews online. While I really enjoyed certain aspects of my stay, other aspects were really disappointing. On the positive side, I have to say that the beds were super comfy, the views are beautiful, and we loved seeing five bears on the property! The less enjoyable aspects largely relate to this “five star” accommodation feeling somewhat impersonal, less classy than I would have expected, and a rather embarrassing complimentary ‘breakfast’. - I was asked before I arrived if we were celebrating anything special. I told them it was our wedding anniversary so I sort of thought that based on the question they would do something - even a token gesture - to share their congratulations, but there was no mention or acknowledgement of it after we arrived at any point. - The plastic cups, “tea-bag” coffee and paper wrapper on the toilet paper felt more like a motel than a classy lodge. The wet towels that were left on the floor of our shower were also quite strange and disappointing that the TV was broken. I would strongly recommend, at a minimum, single-cup coffee machines in the room. - The hardest aspect to wrap my head around was the “complimentary” continental breakfast that consisted of one croissant per person, a small bowl of fruit (to share) and either a cup of tea/filter coffee or juice. While I would have been ok with the very limited spread, I was shocked that the hotel valued this breakfast at $20 per person ($40 for the two of us) and added an obligatory 20% ($8) tip on our complimentary breakfast each day! Is this even legal? I was told by the receptionist that this “required tip” was because the server (who literally just dropped off a shoebox of food on the table and poured our water) needed to earn enough money. I’ve never in my life been charged an obligatory tip on a hotel’s complimentary breakfast. I would have also expected more of an offering for a continental breakfast - particularly when valued at $20 per person! Overall, it’s really concerning that: 1) the hotel is not paying the server well enough to cover her costs, and 2) that they feel that it is worthwhile to inflate their costs to make their guests compensate for this pay gap. I’m not sure if Edson Hill is just really quiet in the summer (although Stowe was very busy) or it is past its prime, but we were among the only guests on a three-night say over the 4th of July week, so maybe other guests have had similar experiences but chosen not to vocalize them… In conclusion, it’s a beautiful location with heaps of potential, but at the moment sadly missing the mark.
