John McIntosh was an amazing Spruce Peak Treehouse Residence host to us. He made us feel welcome. He helped us with all of our needs. He even went extremely out of his way to help us find a misplaced item. He cared for our needs and always made us feel at home in beautiful Stowe, Vermont. Thank you, John

Extremely Disappointing Birthday Stay — Not Worth the Price

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

We came to The Lodge at Spruce Peak to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately, what should have been a special and relaxing experience turned into one disappointment after another. The biggest issue was the service. Before our stay, we were told that a birthday cake would be delivered to our room on my actual birthday. It never arrived. No cake, no explanation, no follow-up, and not even an apology. For a birthday celebration, that was incredibly disappointing. We also had dinner reservations at Alpine Hall, which is apparently one of the only fine-dining options open at the resort. Despite having a reservation, we were made to wait approximately 30 minutes. Once seated, the service didn't improve. The staff were not welcoming or particularly friendly, and we repeatedly had to look around and find someone just to get water or place an order. For a resort of this price and reputation, this level of service is simply unacceptable. The food was another major disappointment. As vegetarians, we found the options extremely limited. Unfortunately, the few vegetarian dishes available were either incorrect, missing components, or simply did not taste good. It felt like almost every dish had at least one missing or incorrect element. We shouldn't have to repeatedly point out what is missing from our food after paying resort-level prices. And the dessert was just as disappointing. We ordered the chocolate cake, expecting something enjoyable, but it was extremely dry and not remotely what we expected from a high-end resort. What made the overall experience even more frustrating was how many amenities and dining options were unavailable. It is summer, yet the resort's so-called ice cream shop was closed. Several other food options were also closed or had extremely limited vegetarian choices. If multiple restaurants and amenities are going to be closed during a summer stay, guests should be clearly informed before booking and paying premium prices. Even the whiskey/bar experience was bizarre. Instead of making us feel welcome and encouraging us to enjoy what the resort offers, the staff essentially suggested that we buy whiskey somewhere outside because it would be better. That's hardly the experience you expect at an upscale resort. Overall, we paid a premium price expecting a premium experience, especially because this was a birthday celebration. Instead, we experienced poor service, limited dining choices, disappointing food, closed amenities, and a complete lack of attention to a special occasion that the resort had specifically acknowledged. For the price, this experience was nowhere close to what we expected. There are plenty of places where you can spend this kind of money and receive genuinely warm hospitality and attention to detail. Unfortunately, The Lodge at Spruce Peak was not that place for us. We left feeling disappointed rather than celebrating a memorable birthday. Based on this experience, we would not return and would not recommend this resort to others looking for a special occasion getaway.

Great Vermont Experience!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Beautiful hotel, it's quiet in the summer so not everything is open outside of the lodge, so you need to be prepared for that. Would be beautiful any time of the year for sure! Our rooms had balconies overlooking the mountains, and were gorgeous. Staff friendly and helpful.
