Gracing a magnificent estate of exquisite formal gardens, Great Fosters occupies the heart of what once was the Royal Windsor Forest in Surrey, in the southwest outskirts of London. Blessed with the grandeur of 16th century England, this superlative residence has played host to royalty, emperors and media icons. At this immaculately preserved monument and Small Luxury Hotels of the World member, luxuriously modern facilities blend with indelible Elizabethan ambience in ornately elegant guestrooms that reflect centuries of art and architecture.

I purchased for a present a voucher for my daughter wife and Wilf (the dog) to have afternoon tea something that they do quite regularly and obviously was keen to discover if they had an enjoyable afternoon when they arrived home. They were full of praise for the location particularly the grounds together with the lady who served them throughout. They were not enthralled about selection of food but i do appreciate this is a matter of individual taste. However as they have each done something in excess of 25 different tea experiences their opinion is valid as they were comparing it to other venues What prompted me to write this review however is that i was extremely annoyed to discover that my daughter had to pay an additional sum of money to complete the booking. It appeared that the voucher expired on the 13th August and although she contacted Great Fosters before expiry she was told that she would have to pay £25 per head to book after that date(we were not sure whether that included the dog!) or not. To be fair the lady dealing with this accepted just £25 as an additional charge for the three of them. I think this policy is mean spirited to say the least and I post this as a warning to others To end on a positive note Wilf had a great time and was made a fuss of. He would certainly go back

We had a wonderful stay at Great Fosters over the bank holiday weekend. Upon arrival, our bags were taken and our car parked in the car park for us promptly. We were given a wonderful room with lovely, thoughtful details to celebrate our anniversary. The in-room amenities are exceptional and provided an ice bucket upon request. The grounds are nice to stroll around and the service provided at dinner and breakfast was exceptional. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend!

I have just read the review and feel that I must share my weekend at this hotel. My husband and I just returned from this hotel. We were welcomed in a very professional manner. Our room was small, but i knew that but was clean and had air conditioning. The staff are extremely helpful and always say hi and ask how we are. Regardless of age, everyone is very welcoming. We went to the bar at 8.45 pm but were told that the last orders are 9 pm. We didn't wait for our drinks, all very professional. The pool area is very nice, although the pool water was so hot, 38 degrees. Impossible to swim in. I did feel that the day guests are prioritised. Our breakfast was extremely nice, but they did forget our toast. When i addressed this they were very apolgetic The hotel is extremely nice, and although it is 5-star, some may find that it doesn't represent 5 stars. Saying all this, my husband and I had a really nice time - it's an hour from London - on leaving, we spoke to the Manager. I have to say that she listened to us and was so nice and professional, listening to what we had to say and taking it all on board. We will definitely return. The staff are extremely nice, and it's very refreshing to be welcomed in such a nice manner. We will return Ignore the negative reviews its a lovely hotel and worth every penny.

Great Fosters is a beautiful hotel, with stunning and well maintained grounds and an idyllic heated outdoor pool. Even during a heatwave, we managed to find sun loungers from around 4.30pm on our day of arrival. We stayed in a spacious super king suite in the modern cloisters area - not as characterful as the older rooms maybe but air conditioned! It was a very comfortable room and nice to be a little bit away from the main hotel. Breakfast was good. I might have expected more variety from the continental breakfast (a toaster would have been more useful than the gimmicky egg boiler) but that’s just being a bit picky. Our only real complaint was that the bar service was painfully slow. If you insist on serving people at their table, you need sufficient staff to do so.

Booked Great Fosters for afternoon tea to celebrate my mothers 90th birthday. Due to the party being over 8 people I had to pay an extra £100 for a separate room. Whilst the room was very nice & the outdoor space pleasant, the afternoon tea was the worst I have ever experienced. The food was appalling & appeared to be pre packaged, previously frozen or shipped in. Some of vegan offering was inedible. Dry, bland & uninspiring sandwiches. Vegan scones like rocks & the cakes so dry they made you choke. I complained at the time & was told by the manager 'well thats what it is'. I sent an email of complaint & was offered a refund for some of the vegan teas. The poor quality of all the food was never addressed. Overall I felt the price paid did not reflect the standard & quality that one would expect from a prestigious hotel. The most disappointing 90th birthday surprise I could have imagined. I would not recommend this hotel for the afternoon tea, even at their special offer price.
