Reviews for InterContinental Sydney, an IHG Hotel

Outstanding

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Beautiful hotel with exceptional service from Ella at reception, who found me a great room for my six-night stay. The location and views could not be better. You can walk to the gardens and bridge. I definitely recommend the continental breakfast at the Conservatory.

Extraordinary stay for my birthday trip and first time Sydney visit

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I was here for my birthday trip, and it was the first time Sydney/ Australia visit. So, Intercontinental Sydney did a great job to welcome me. I arrived early (10.30am or 11am-around that), and surprisingly the room was ready (yayy!). I got a city view room with the view of an architectural old building in front, then a green scenery on the left, and modern buildings on the right leading to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I do love the view OMG, it’s like 270 degree view. Nothing to conplain to start the trip :-) Room was ok, having everything I need. Tbh, it was a bit dated, but it’s ok, i just needed a proper room with comfy bed and great view. Yepp, i got them all! Esp loved the swimming pool. It was heated indoor one with windows. And yassss, thru the windows, you got a super extraordinary view out of the Bridge, Opera House - every best moment of Sydney!! I went for an early swim like 6am, and wooowww, caught the fantastic sunrise view that really made my trip!!!! Staff was friendly. All were willing to support with the genuine gestures. Ohh, they also surprised me with birthday cake. :-). Sweet! Will be back for sure, and yeah stay to the same Intercontinental Sydney :-xxxx. Thanks the Hotel for making my birthday and first time Sydney visit so memorable and truly beautiful.

$7500/night Suite improperly cleaned & missing described features. When staff lit fireplace, they ignited part of wall.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

I had a three night stay at the InterContinental Sydney from November 2023, in the Presidential Opera House Suite, which cost over $23,000 for the stay, which was over $7,500 per night. The suite was not properly cleaned. There was a bottle of whiskey somehow left inside one of the seats in the suite. When the staff came to light the fireplaces, when lighting the indoor one, which relied upon being refilled with fuel, the staff member, who the hotel said was supposedly a 'qualified engineer', accidentally set a small part of the wall on fire. When I tried to discuss the fireplace incident with the hotel's General Manager, in their reply, they claimed that my 'concerns are unfounded' and referred to the hotel's fire standards and certifications, and claimed that my questions about the fireplace had been answered by another colleague, despite the fact that, when requested, the General Manager could not quote to me when that specific time that this incident was supposedly addressed by this other colleague. There was masking tape on the tables. Parts of the piano seemed to need repair. The two remotes for the soundbars were still shrink-wrapped in packaging. The bedroom telephone handset did not seem to ever make a successful call during my stay, and the one in the desk area of the lounge room would not consistently make successful calls. Certain room amenities or features did not match their description. The hotel's COVID-safety procedures did not properly match their website at the time of the stay. The curtains on the sliding doorway to the balcony from the master bedroom kept getting snagged when being automatically opened and closed. There wasn’t a Vittoria pod espresso machine in the room, despite the room information PDF provided by the hotel listing ‘Vittoria coffee machine’. I also couldn’t find a packet of beans in the room to use with this Breville machine, so the Breville machine wasn’t a suitable replacement. The so-called ‘gallery kitchen’ listed in the room features on the PDF was really a kitchenette. There was no ‘iPod docking station’ or proper ‘BOSE Sound system’, because a soundbar with subwoofer for each television is not a fully fledged sound system. Some in-room dining items did not match the hotel's description or were not delivered at all. The hotel ended up providing a 50% refund for the stay, however, this is insufficient because the suite provided by the hotel was not of a condition that would be acceptable for $3,700 per night. The hotel should have, at least, provided a refund that ensured that the amount that this stay cost, reflected a level of cost in which the failures which occurred would have been expected at that price range. e.g. if these failures would have been acceptable in a 4-star hotel, but not 5-star, then the hotel could provide a refund between the difference in price of a 4-star hotel suite and this particular hotel suite. The hotel also, in February 2024, without my permission, cancelled an upcoming April 2024 reservation I had made prior to this November 2023 stay. 6 days later, the General Manager eventually replied and claimed that they cancelled it because they 'cannot meet your expectations beyond what is advertised'. However, lots of the issues which occurred, such as cleanliness or missing room amenities, were entirely based upon what was advertised by the hotel. Please see some photos showing the issues mentioned.
