Slightly tired hotel with an amazing staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Fantastic hotel in an amazing location with a wonderful staff. Double bay is a tranquil and authentic affluent Australian suburb. The restaurants are absolutely fantastic in the local area and there are some lively bars. The hotel itself needs a bit of a refurbishment. The rooms are slightly dated and the dining room is possibly the ugliest interior I’ve seen ever in a restaurant. Don’t desperately like the staff uniforms either The rooftop bar is a gem

Christmas Lunch at Double Bay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The family chose the International @ Double Bay for our Christmas Lunch. Very good indeed. The selection of cuisine was terrific with plenty of seafood to satisfy anyone. The hot cavern was delicious and along with the truffle mash a real treat. So a real good choice was made and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Mediocre stay at the Intercontinental Double Bay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Good Excellent location, Friendly Staff, great breakfast selection & service, comfy beds . Plus very good 24 Hr gym on site. The Not So Good Hotel rooms and corridors are dated and in need of renovation / refurbishment. The initial room we were provided was sub standard with mold and ripped wallpaper in the bathroom. The bedroom had not been cleaned properly, surfaces were dusty and the stained carpet had not been not hoovered properly. Patio window sheers were also ripped. Upon making the issue known the hotel promptly resolved the issue and provided an alternative room. The new room was ok. The new room we were given had a blocked bath waste. The issue was made known to the front desk , and wasn’t resolved within 24hrs. In fact, when we followed up with front desk, they confirmed maintenance had fixed the blockage. It hadn’t ……… and we had timed stamped pictures to show the front desk that it hadn’t been unblocked. Not a great customer experience! Common areas (corridors) were not hoovered properly and room service trays remained in the corridors most of the day. Great breakfast service with excellent selection of breakfast staples and healthy choices. However, the furniture is stained in areas. I hope the management review my review and do a walk around. I am confident the stained furniture will still be …… stained. So in summary, not what I would expect from the IHG Intercontinental brand. Premium / Luxury room rate, with suspect standards regarding housekeeping. I appreciate all hotels , whatever the star rating , have renovation cycles. But even if a hotel is in need of a refurb, or even a lick of paint, it doesn’t excuse the cleanliness standards. And this is where the hotel lets itself down. So despite the friendly and helpful staff, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel I’m afraid. Not worth the luxury price tag!

AVOID THIS HOTEL! MAJOR CONSTRUCTION!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Unfortunately my beloved Intercontinental has quite a problem on their hands. I booked my three night stay December 14-17 through Hotels.com and there was no mention of any major construction or noise. The first morning I was woken by jackhammering shaking my room and very loud noise. I went downstairs and spoke with front desk girl who offered a different room (available later in the day) that would be further away from the construction. Initially I accepted and then realized I would be leaving early in the morning both days and had already unpacked all of my things. Let me also note that the room I was offered, room 433 was a “special offer upgrade” of only 100 more because I was IHG. If anything this room should be unavailable as the balcony is practically in a construction zone! Management is clearly delusional, or simply looking for a money grab by not communicating that there is MAJOR, LOUD construction on the building next to the hotel AND directly across the street!!!! If you go up to the beautiful pool to relax good luck while hearing the deafening construction noise and loud crane!!!! The experience is ruined as a guest and whoever is in charge over there should attempt leading with honesty and full disclosure. What a major disappointment.

Filthy

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Absolutely the worst experience from the moment you step foot inside this tired old property from the rude staff to the dirty corridors to the disappointment of the smelly and stained bedsheets and furniture of the room itself. Don’t even attempt to voice your complaints to the supremely unprofessional staff
