DIRTY , FILTHY ROOMS .

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

nights accommodation at Ovolo Woolloomooloo back in January of this year. We arrived at the hotel early and had breakfast in the hotel restaurant ( very average ) then went for a walk as our room was apparently being cleaned . When we finally got a call to say our room was ready ( stayed in the loft room ) we headed up . The first thing I do as a Professional Cleaner and guest in any hotel is check the sanitation of the room . Check for dust , dirt , under the bed , bathroom check , floors etc . You pay for the cleanliness of your room so it should deliver . Whilst going through the room I WAS DISGUSTED , ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED !!!!!!! Behind the bed head the dust was at least half and inch thick from corner to corner. Under the bed I could see dust throughout the carpet . The bathroom had mould in corners . The tiles were not cleaned . The coffee machine had not even been cleaned from previous guest . The room itself had a very stale smell to it. I went downstairs and spoke to Rachael C at reception and asked to see the Hotel Manager and as per usual there was no one available to speak with ( typical as they want reception staff to deal with everything). So I told Rachel that the room was filthy and that I'd like her to witness it herself . She eventually made her way to our room and agreed that it was in poor condition and would let management know. I requested a room change and she said she would do that for us but we would have to wait . We waited in the foyer for 50 minutes because the room was APPARENTLY BEING CLEANED ????? We then went to our new room and it was just as bad !!!! 50 minutes of waiting to get another room that had not been serviced . I know that because the above descriptions were the same in the new room and when I had looked under the bed and then moved the bed I found fake rose petals leaves spread out which were from a previous hotel guest . Upon looking further i found nail clippings near the bed !!!!! That is absolutely disgusting !!!!!!! We had waited patiently downstairs and had been LIED too as the room was not cleaned at all !!!!!!! So i again had to go downstairs and asked for the manager , the other girl had said he was not available. I noticed as I looked out the front doors the first girl I had spoken too was speaking to two men in suits . So I went straight out to them and asked who was the Manager ?? Well of course the General manager was in house but was too busy admiring the expensive cars parked out the front and socialising. The General Manager was named Mehul . So I said to him that I need to speak with him asap and he gave me his time to tell him about the filthy rooms . And of course I was given the story that the cleaning is outsourced and the housekeeping department is short staffed . NOT THE CUSTOMERS PROBLEM !!!! ITS THE HOTELS PROBLEM and will not empathise. Always a push back and excuses. Perhaps , if the hotel owner would chose to pay decent wages and have in house cleaning staff this would not be a problem. So the manager sees exactly what I've described and makes a decent apology then says he will send the staff to the room to clean it. He arrives back with 2 x young males that barely speak any English as they had no idea what I was saying and to be honest , they both STUNK OF BODY ODOUR . If you can't present yourself with good personal hygiene then i can understand why these rooms were not clean. You need to have Professional cleaning staff on your premises that know what the direction is when cleaning a hotel room . So my partner and I wasted the best part of our day making sure that the room was presented the way it should have been in the beginning. We were compensated with a mere bottle of champagne. That's it and that's all !!!!!!!! That in itself in unprofessional when considering the whole situation. I still have all the photos I had taken and will post them on a review platform as people need to see what I'm talking about . Spoilt our holiday stay in Syndey and wasted our time trying to get a clean room which should have been delivered in the first instance. VERY , VERY , VERY DISSAPOINTED !!!!!! The hotel has alot of positive marketing which is misleading and untrue !

Decent hotel / nice room.

Nice hotel with a great room setup, we upgraded to a suite and the room was good and the breakfast very nice. Staff were pleasant too. The hotel is very quirky in a good way although we were disappointed they took the gym out of action for the length of our stay.

Cold not cool!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Where to start! We booked the hotel because it looked cool and had good reviews but ‘cool’ was an understatement- the hotel was freezing we had to sit in our overcoats when having breakfast or in communal areas! You could literally see your breath when awaiting lifts in the lobby! Sydney in July is cooler, obviously but no where did it tell us before we went that due to it being a historic building there is no heating other than lamps and patio style gas heaters! Even the reception staff wore coats the whole time we were there! Safety was also a concern as there are no stairs, again due to the historic aspect so if there was a fire how would we get out! Lifts took an eternity as it was but couldn’t be used during a fire if one arose! Breakfast was a joke- service was so slow, we got in the habit of ordering coffee as soon as we were seated but still it would take a minimum of 15 minutes before it arrived. Not once did we have coffee with our breakfast! People were complaining all the time! There was a coffee machine but it didn’t work the whole week we were there! The buffet was lukewarm at best probably due to the lack of heat in the breakfast area. The rooms were very small but we loved the big windows and decor and beds were comfortable. Barely any storage, one drawer under the tv and a rail; so only good for an overnight visit where you can live out of the suitcase! You have to call 9 for anything you need even housekeeping and it was answered only 50%of the time due to reception being so busy. Not their fault but frustrating for guests. We travel a lot and typically stay in Marriott or Hilton this was considered a luxury property but the service as ok at best and the essentials in my opinion weren’t covered (heat/stairs). Suffice to say we would not ho back and wouldn’t recommend to a friend.

Average at best

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Great location, easy walking distance for everywhere. We stayed in Deluxaroo Loft suite, room wasn’t the cleanest, fair amount of dust all around the room, felt like it could do with a good deep clean. The pillows were great and the bed was okay. Hotel was mostly quiet except for a wedding that had booked the bar area for their party, we were told they only had half the area but they’d taken over the entire space so you couldn’t get a drink, not great when Saturday night was the most expensive night of 3 night stay. Reception staff were good but bar staff less so. Overall it was okay and average at best, I wouldn’t be rushing back to stay here.

Best in Sydney in a spectacular location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This is the best hotel in Sydney for sure. The location is fantastic, the rooms are funky and huge and the staff are amazing. If you’re looking for a hotel in a beautiful part of Sydney just out of the hustle and bustle where you get treated like a king then the Ovolo is the place to stay.
