Conversational murmurs and tinkling piano rise through the atrium, shouts of laughter accenting the melody. Joy understood in any language. There’s a sense of intrigue here that is impossible to place, much like Taipei itself: a melting-pot metropolis infused with Chinese, Japanese and Western influences, where Taoist temples stand next to gleaming skyscrapers and hot springs steam the base of the Tatun volcano group, a mere 15 km. (9 miles) north of the city.

I am a IHG Diamond Elite Royal Ambassador Inner Circle member. When I booked the Regent Taipei on the IHG official website, it said enjoy your lounge , I didn’t looked into details and Diamond member can always go to the lounge . But when I check in on September 15 , they told me I can’t go to the lounge because they need lounge pass ( which you need to look into details at the IHG website ) the front desk said they didn’t join the Royal ambassador program. Ok , it’s my overlook the details. But very disappointing. The next thing my wife notice is the smell inside the hotel once we were inside the hotel . It smell like insecticide, in the lobby , corridors and even inside the room . I try to ignore it , but when I half awake in the morning, the smell inside the room just kick into my nose. I told myself I need to change hotel . So I went down to the lobby at 7am , ask the front desk if I can check out today and charge only one night room fee , she said yes . I told the front desk it was the smell inside the whole hotel that I can’t stand and she knows the smell is strange too . So I went up to my room , search for another hotel ( which I booked Double Tree by Hilton only 5 minutes walk and I am also a diamond member) I wake up my wife and check out at 11am . When I checked out , no front desk people at the Diamond member counter , or IHG member counter , that’s not the way as a IHG hotel should do. I was totally disappointed and upset about The Regent Taipei , to all Diamond member at the IHG group , you really need to look into details even the hotel at the website said : Enjoy your lounge . The most disappointing about the hotel and the IHG group is they didn’t give me a chance to write the review. My booking is for 4 nights and I only stay one night and cancel the other 3 nights . They know I was upset and will write a bad review about my stay . Normally the hotel will sent me an email asking about the experience of my stay and ask to write a review. But after 6 days , I didn’t receive any email . So disappointed on the Regent Taipei and the IGG group , I want to write a review on IHG website and no area for me to write a review. As a Diamond Elite Royal Ambassador inner circle member, I lost my faith and trust to the IHG group . Will try not to book any hotel on IHG and of course never go back to regent Taipei .

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The hotel location made it easy for me to get around. The check in was very smooth a Japanese girl helped me (sorry I forgot the name), and everything went quickly and nicely. The buffet restaurant was also great, with lots of different food choices that I really liked and also thanks to Kris for helping me with photos and for the warm farewell at check-out

We arrived at 4:45 am today. The reception said they have no rooms and cannot give us a room till 1pm. We offered to pay and they offered a room for $554 for the night! The excuse they are giving is they don’t have guests checkout till 11 and they need time to clean the room. I have seen at least 30 people checkout. We are IHG platinum elite members and this treatment is awful, no concept of hospitality. Definitely first and last time staying here. It’s 7:15am and we are still waiting with no update on when we can expect a room after flying on a 14 hour flight.

the stay here in this hotel is off to a GREAT START. The check in process was seamless. Moana was able to help with a little bit of early check in that helped a lot. Christy was able to help when being handed the keys. Kirana was gracious to serve our oolong fizzy drink and the rose tea fizzy drink in the bar. The aforementioned employees deserve a promotion, and I hope it will be given to them in time. Thank you Regent Taipei.

A well located hotel in a smart district of Taipei, a ten minute walk from Zhongshan MRT and one stop from Taipei Main station (or you can walk from Zhongshan via the air conditioned underground passage). We booked a Tai Pan room but unfortunately the Lounge was closed for renovations. To make up for this we had access to the Balcony Lounge (which offered wine and beer with a basic assortment of hot and cold canapés from 6-9pm every evening) as well as a daily credit of NT$1,000 per person per night (roughly GB£25 so GB£50 each day for the two of us) to use at the Gallery Bar and Restaurant. This worked out well for us as overall we had three decent dinners with drinks in the Gallery. Not actually experiencing Tai Pan Lounge we’re not sure how it compares but it seemed fair. Breakfast was in the main restaurant. It was busy and a little chaotic but the spread - more so Asian than Western - was extensive and staff were polite and friendly. We ate one evening in the Lang Ting - as the Silks House restaurant was fully booked and it sounded like you definitely needed to book in advance. The food and service in Lang Ting were decent but somehow it lacked atmosphere with very few furnishings and artwork to give it much character. We had a Tai Pan King Club room which was a good size. Nothing particularly to note but pleased to say that housekeeping each day was prompt. Staff across the hotel were very helpful, polite and friendly. Apart from reception, English was limited but that didn’t cause us any issues as everyone was willing to communicate and that’s more our own shortcoming for not speaking Chinese! Overall we would recommend this hotel for a stay in Taipei. Next time we come we hope to properly experience Tai Pan!
