About the Hotel

We’re family-owned and our passion shows. Cala Luna is one of the only hotels in Guanacaste, Costa Rica that remains green all year round. There are few barriers between us and nature. Open-plan spaces and secluded accommodations meld into the lush jungle that attracts more wildlife than anywhere else in the area – monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, birds, insects, and us. Within this natural retreat, we offer five-star barefoot luxury that’s open to everyone. We nourish our senses daily through delicious home-grown ingredients, gastronomic farm-to-table dinners, holistic wellness, spa therapies, and deep connection to Mother Earth. From dining with us at our homestead La Senda and walking the world’s largest labyrinth, to sipping cocktails on the beach as the sun slips over the edge of the ocean – you choose the memories to carry home. Welcome to an unforgettable experience.

Reviews for Cala Luna Boutique Hotel

A sanctuary near Tamarindo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Cala Luna is an intimate hotel located just south of Tamarindo. While not right on the beach, the Pacific Ocean beach is a short walk away. The beach is public (as are all beaches in Costa Rica). Our room was fairly basic, but adequate for our needs. The air conditioning worked well in this warm climate. The swimming pool provides a relaxing place to unwind. The restaurant serves excellent food, including organic produce from their own garden.

Really nice stay with a few improvements.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had a nice stay at Cala Luna. Here were some of the pros: Lovely room, really cozy with mosaic bathroom, lush grounds with monkeys you can spot and beautiful foliage. Steven, our breakfast and lunch waiter was really the star of the show though--always eager to make things happen and always willing to speak Spanish (at my request) with my daughter (much to her chagrin!) They also host drinks at the beach at sunset which is a nice touch, however there is really nowhere to sit, or you have to bring your own towels. All the beaches in CR are public. Here are some of the other areas we thought could be improved: 1-The room door wouldn't open one day. IT took several hours to fix and they left the door open which left us with tons of mosquitos in the room. (My daughter has about 15 bites; I have 2.) 2-Raccoon in pool: one night we saw a raccoon in the swimming pool, which really freaked me out, but the hotel management seemed to think it was normal. They assured me they would put "chemicals in the pool to fix this." 3-Breakfast buffet is nothing special, except for the fresh fruit, which was outstanding 4-No desk in room, so I'm writing this from the restaurant and have to do work here as well. 5-Very dim lighting in the room. 6-Very few electric outlets in the room. 7-Housekeeping skipped us one day and we had to call the reception. The GM did call us to apologize for #1 and #7 and initially offered us a dessert or drink, then I explained to her the other areas that needed improvement and she invited us to dinner, which was very kind. We were, however, surprised when we sat down to dinner and the waitress told us we could order 1 appetizer, 2 main dishes and 1 dessert, which felt a little bit embarrassing as we had absolutely no intention of taking advantage of her dinner offer. Honestly, I would have preferred not to have dinner there after that awkward interaction. It might have been better for her to present a gift certificate or voucher rather than making us uncomfortable with these ordering guidelines. :) Overall, this was a nice spring break holiday for my daughter and me for 4 days and we had a good, relaxing experience.

The Origins Restaurant is Exceptional!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Our family had dinner at Origins. We thought it was the best restaurant in the Tamarindo area. Creative and very tasty, it was a really enjoyable dining experience. Each appetizer, main, and desert had a very unique flavour. It also seemed very healthy (we had smoothies and their “cleanse juices” and they were punchy on flavour). The Origins Restaurant is Exceptional!

Perfection!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My husband and I were married at the Cala Luna Boutique Hotel in March 2025. Carol and Sylvia made the entire planning process so easy. We had regular video calls to discuss each detail.Every single thing was perfection. All of the staff were amazing. The food was delicious. The flowers were beautiful. All of the external vendors were top notch. The ceremony and rehearsal were stunning. No detail was missed. Carol was there for the whole thing and was so helpful throughout. 10/10 recommend!!

Unforgettable stay at Cala Luna!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Stayed at Cala Luna for 4 nights. It could not have been nicer. Our stay at Hotel Cala Luna was nothing short of magical. The grounds are absolutely stunning—lush, green, and beautifully maintained, creating a peaceful, tropical escape that felt like a little piece of paradise. The food was a highlight for our family—fresh, healthy, and absolutely delicious! There were plenty of options that even our picky eaters enjoyed, and we loved knowing that everything was thoughtfully prepared with wellness in mind. Evenings were our favorite time, with breathtaking sunsets that we watched together as a family. It was the perfect way to end each day—relaxed, grateful, and in awe of nature’s beauty. Cala Luna is ideal for families looking to slow down, recharge, and connect in a gorgeous setting. We can’t wait to come back!
