We are dying to come back!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

When our trip ended we vowed to come back! Not only were the villas comfortable, spacious and tastefully decorated, the service was top notch. We had minor glitches which were quickly addressed. All the staff members were very attentive and prompt. I have to hand it to the morning staff, Flor, Steven and many others who took the time to make sure we had what we needed. We felt very taken care of. Our breakfast had a nice variety- fruits, pastries, hot dishes which include made to order dishes like omelets. And the coffee beats Starbucks! They also offered a service that was quite unique - free sunset cocktails! The beach is a short walk through nature where we came across monkeys and iguanas - so lovely! We didn't feel the need to go to any jungle outings. We felt we were in it. As you can see from the pictures the property grounds are like no other we've ever been too. It was well maintained but not too manicured. You really get the rainforest vibe walking around the property. I should add the ambiance around the pool was also great. We loved the sound baths, yoga and the workout classes which were included. It was again in a beautiful setting that made you feel you were deep in the jungle, including the mosquitoes. However, the staff were thoughtful and offered insect repellent. I would highly recommend the on-site restaurant. The menu is very gourmet and there wasn't anything that we ordered that we didn't love. The prices are a little high so that's something to consider. The other factor that could be improved is the amenities on the beach. They had chairs but no umbrellas. We would have loved some shade at the beach which was rocky but had little tide pools. I would recommend bringing water shoes to protect your feet. Overall, it was an amazing vacation and we look forward to returning. Thank you Cala Luna management and staff for giving us such memorable experiences. Imelda and Peter

A sanctuary near Tamarindo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Cala Luna is an intimate hotel located just south of Tamarindo. While not right on the beach, the Pacific Ocean beach is a short walk away. The beach is public (as are all beaches in Costa Rica). Our room was fairly basic, but adequate for our needs. The air conditioning worked well in this warm climate. The swimming pool provides a relaxing place to unwind. The restaurant serves excellent food, including organic produce from their own garden.

Really nice stay with a few improvements.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We had a nice stay at Cala Luna. Here were some of the pros: Lovely room, really cozy with mosaic bathroom, lush grounds with monkeys you can spot and beautiful foliage. Steven, our breakfast and lunch waiter was really the star of the show though--always eager to make things happen and always willing to speak Spanish (at my request) with my daughter (much to her chagrin!) They also host drinks at the beach at sunset which is a nice touch, however there is really nowhere to sit, or you have to bring your own towels. All the beaches in CR are public. Here are some of the other areas we thought could be improved: 1-The room door wouldn't open one day. IT took several hours to fix and they left the door open which left us with tons of mosquitos in the room. (My daughter has about 15 bites; I have 2.) 2-Raccoon in pool: one night we saw a raccoon in the swimming pool, which really freaked me out, but the hotel management seemed to think it was normal. They assured me they would put "chemicals in the pool to fix this." 3-Breakfast buffet is nothing special, except for the fresh fruit, which was outstanding 4-No desk in room, so I'm writing this from the restaurant and have to do work here as well. 5-Very dim lighting in the room. 6-Very few electric outlets in the room. 7-Housekeeping skipped us one day and we had to call the reception. The GM did call us to apologize for #1 and #7 and initially offered us a dessert or drink, then I explained to her the other areas that needed improvement and she invited us to dinner, which was very kind. We were, however, surprised when we sat down to dinner and the waitress told us we could order 1 appetizer, 2 main dishes and 1 dessert, which felt a little bit embarrassing as we had absolutely no intention of taking advantage of her dinner offer. Honestly, I would have preferred not to have dinner there after that awkward interaction. It might have been better for her to present a gift certificate or voucher rather than making us uncomfortable with these ordering guidelines. :) Overall, this was a nice spring break holiday for my daughter and me for 4 days and we had a good, relaxing experience.

The Origins Restaurant is Exceptional!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Our family had dinner at Origins. We thought it was the best restaurant in the Tamarindo area. Creative and very tasty, it was a really enjoyable dining experience. Each appetizer, main, and desert had a very unique flavour. It also seemed very healthy (we had smoothies and their “cleanse juices” and they were punchy on flavour). The Origins Restaurant is Exceptional!
