La Plage Resort

I had an incredible experience at the spa with Chiara! I didn’t stay at this hotel but every encounter I had with the staff there was great. They were super helpful and all very kind. I had a facial and a massage and they were two of the best I’ve ever had. It’s obvious Chiara is passionate about the work that she does as she creates a super relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. I was so impressed at her ability to recognize what would be most beneficial to my specific skin type and body’s needs. Highly recommend her and the spa here, I will be back the next time I am in Taormina!

This will be a long review I'm afraid! We travelled with 3 other couples. Two couples booked directly with the hotel and the other 2 booked though a third party travel website. Two of those couples arrived first and texted us to advise it was taking a very long time to check in - they had to produce their passports 3 separate times. Our friends then told us they had all been given fabulous rooms with hot tubs. We arrived with one other couple and there were also 2 other guests at reception. They insisted on checking us all in together and it took 40 minutes!!! We all had to be shown the rooms together for some reason even though we did not know some of the other guests. When we finally reached our rooms, we were shocked to see they were tiny circular rooms with no sea view. We queried why our friends were in better rooms with hot tubs and we were told to take it up with the reception team in the morning. We booked a "discounted" wedding rate directly with the hotel as did one other couple. We were paying a rate of EUR516 per night which is expensive. Our friends who booked through a third party site paid EUR497 and they were upgraded by the hotel on arrival. Next morning, my friend and I asked reception why we were paying a higher rate for a much poorer room category than our friends when we had booked directly and were staying for longer. They insisted our friends were paying EUR550 per night which was not the case. They could not explain why they were upgraded and we were not. They refused our request to be upgraded or to have the rate reduced. They were absolutely adamant there was nothing wrong with this situation. By coincidence, I met a work colleague who was also staying in the hotel. Her rate for the same room type as ours was £300 per night!! Do NOT book this hotel directly - we got the worst deal. To make matters worse, reception then called one of our friends in the better room and admonished him for divulging to us the cost that they were paying for the room! They also told him that we had been aggressive and threatening when we queried the rooms. This is absolutely untrue - the most "profane" word we used was "disgraceful". So don't be a sucker like us and book directly - use a third party website. In the restaurant later, they would not allow us to sit together in groups of 4, we had to sit at various tables for 2 - they were in no way accommodating. The final icing on the cake was when we were leaving. When our friends in the higher room type checked out, they were offered a further discount if they gave the hotel a favourable review online! We were not offered that either - another reason to not book direct. We were told our taxi had arrived by reception; the doorman confirmed our room number, put our luggage into the taxi and away we went for 2 miles when the taxi driver got a call telling them the hotel had made a mistake and we were in someone else's taxi!! We had to go back. You couldn't make it up. The only thing this hotel has going for it is its location. Our room - standard superior was tiny with one chair, a stool and a tiny desk. The bathroom is at the foot of the bed. For the rate of EUR515 per night, you expect a lot more. I had stayed in Hotel Capotaormina on my previous trip and I really regret not booking it for my latest trip to Taormina.

Fantastic location, hotel personnel are supportive and so friendly, we loved our 8 night stay at La Plage resort. A special mention for Lorenzo, Fabio, Isabella and the wonderful bar man who makes delicious cocktails. The resort is exceptional I hope you enjoy your stay
