Another reviewer summed it up best: Tarrytown House Estate experience is akin to being catfished. It’s easy to write off some reviews as unreasonable, “I’m not super picky, I’m easy!” You might think to yourself. There are enough raving reviews, surely this must not be so bad. But do not be fooled by the slick website design and professional edited photos! Honestly, this hotel should do itself a favor and lower expectations. I paid ~$250 for a room in the King Mansion on a weekday. I don’t drive, so none of the parking lot issues applied to me. The first room I was provided: uninhabitable. Dark, dingy flooring, prison vibes. No natural light and only a lamp that needed to be thrown away. Depressing. But most of all, there was an overwhelming chemical smell. The front desk was very accommodating (whoever we spoke to deserves all the raises for customer service) and offered us two other rooms. One also had a strong chemical smell, another was do-able. Wooden floors, natural lighting. If we’d been given that room originally I would have thought “OK, sort of like the picture, but in reality not as nice.” The outdoor pool closed shortly after check in and opened an hour before check out, which is pretty lame but OK. The indoor pool was old and not so well kept but sort of had some charm. The restaurant was good. Overall: far from worth the room price. This is like a $125-150 a night place, geared towards people who need to stay for a wedding so their critiques are overpowered by the joy of celebration. Trust the bad reviews! Make sure your expectations are low and be OK with mediocre! (But not OK with chemical or moldy smells. Those are a real issue.) Unfortunately staying here involves a real roll of the dice. That being said: a memorable stay, and once we were moved to an acceptable room I enjoyed it, although still overpriced. Great CS experience, wish I remembered his name.

Very nice property and very friendly front desk staff. I asked that they put my sister who was arriving later in a room near us in the Westchester wing and they put her right across the hall which was great. The rooms are large but a little dated and it can be noisy from other guests. We had a nice view of the courtyard with the fall colors on the trees. One other thing was the cleaners took some of our towels and never replaced them. I’m sure we could have asked for them but never did. I was pleasantly surprised after reading some negative reviews about the rooms. No elevators which we knew about but it’s a little tedious getting to the room with a lot of luggage, not really a problem for us.

I would never return here. I was kissing my husband at the pool and was told rudely,“NO” pda at the pool by a 16 year old lifeguard. The two 21 years old dry humping each other no problem, but the old couple who kissed in the pool not allowed. When I expressed my concern with mgmt, They defended the 16 year old….bad business!!!

From the outside this hotel is beautiful but we found both rooms to be very dark despite their renovations. We originally had a room in the mansion but had to ask for another one because with no elevator and a recent orthopedic surgery, it was not feasible to take our bags up the stairs. We were moved to an “ADA accessible” room, but again there were three sets of stairs to reach the room (and no elevator). This hotel is not an accessible hotel if you’re injured or a wheelchair user. The second room we were given was also very dark and the lighting when turned on was very bright artificial LED lightbulbs. The second room didn’t have any towels when we were in there. The toilet/shower area was incredibly small (knees basically touching the door situation). The mini fridge didn’t work. However, I want to note that the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. This review no way reflects customer service which was great, but rather an estate turned hotel that could have better accessibility and better facilities. I’ve stayed at older European estates with elevators and far better amenities than this hotel. I’m surprised it’s rated a 4/5 on all sites we researched.

Tarrytown House is a beautifully preserved vintage hotel with comfortable rooms, great meeting spaces, lovely outdoor areas, and—my favorite—a fantastic gym. A great choice for meetings and team events!
