Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden

A real home from home. Possibly our favourite hotel in the world

If you want a true five star experience, rather than so many places which advertise but don't deliver, this is the place you want to stay. This time we went for two weeks and it was fantastic. My husband and I were so well taken care of in every respect. Reservations, a cup of coffee, change in the housekeeping, any question asked we received a prompt answer, help in securing reservations at outside dining which may have been close or at capacity, help with getting a prescription for emergency meds ASAP, really, they will do anything that you need. The Spa is heavenly and very good value for money on the treatments with the team so very caring and pleasant. The hair salon a luxury for someone who usually blows out her own hair but hey it was Christmas and New Years! Then I lost terribly to my husband at pool but we had a good time in their lovely spacious room with pool table and books in lots of languages. The Maître d' at the Italian restaurant there is just excellent. You would like a bottle of wine that is in the hotel but not necessarily in the his restaurant, he goes and gets it. He keeps the tables promptly served while exchanging jokes with my husband or leaving us for our dinner (great judge of when to serve and when to let patrons be). The pools are beautiful and clean with the spa pool only open to their more mature guests. We saw lots of extended families enjoying the holidays and there is something about this hotel which has people of all ages behaving in a fun yet civilized manner which in this world is a definite plus for us. We met people from all over the world. Very convivial yet lots of space and reading nooks for privacy. They have a bird aviary where you can watch the birds through the glass at breakfast or go up to the first floor and watch them from above. Well cared for and very entertaining. I am probably forgetting something but you get the idea!

We arrived impressed to see that the hotel was clean and new looking (we found out later that the hotel is renovated regularly), but the service was the polar opposite of this. The hotels three restaurants weren’t particularly very good, and the bar staff seemed to penny pinch the beverages a lot. A few times we ordered gin and tonic and the glass was delivered with just tonic water in it and could not taste gin. Pina coladas also were seemingly inconsistent across the hotel, one was served that was totally different (it looked curdled) and didn’t taste right yet we were assured it was the same drink. We sent it back but we’re still charged. In the spa, the massage is so heavy handed, they bruised my wife terribly. We see other reviews on our return reporting similar, one even saying they broke her rib. Not what I would have expected from a “Pain relief” massage. I could not recommend this hotel until the staff undergo some heavy retraining and the management unwilling to deal with it has been changed altogether.

Hotel Botánico & The Oriental Spa Garden is quietly located and placed in a wunderfull botanic garden, the staff extreamly service minded, the facilities abundant . We highly recommend the hotel
