Disappointing Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Compared to my stay at PH Kyoto last year, PH Tokyo felt like a step down. On arrival I was not escorted to reception, only taken to the elevator and pointed on a map where to go. Signage was not clear on how to get to reception. This was especially insulting since on my departure I saw several guests being personally escorted to reception. I guess they were more important than me. At check-in I had to wait an extended period and was only offered a bottle of water. PHK walked me to reception and then offered me a selection of drinks and small snack while I waited for them to check me in. In my room I was only given a bottle of sake for my golbalist status. All of my other higher end Hyatts provided me a nice selection of fruit and/or desserts. Also, since I do not drink alone, I never drank the sake. I would have expected the fact that I was the only guest on my reservation that this would have been taken into consideration. Turn-down service was also just simply a bottle of water next to the bed, some tea bags set out, and the ice filled. Once again, as I was alone I did not need any ice. PHK laid out slippers and my yukata on the bed with a small treat along with water. I did not bother with turn-down service after the first night. The yukata in my room was also not great quality. I had to pull it apart like it was pressed folded and it ended up being very wrinkled. A second one was not much better. Breakfast my first morning had a long wait with what seemed to be an issue of understaffing as there were plenty of open tables that could be seen while waiting and the staff were going back and forth in a disorganized manner, only sometimes seating guests. After being seated, I ordered the eggs Benedict. It came out with the eggs being almost hard-boiled. I flagged down a server and asked that it be remade since the eggs were overcooked. It came back out almost exactly the same. I ended up pushing the eggs to the side and eating the muffin and ham only. No one asked if they came out correctly that time. I ended up skipping breakfast the next two mornings due to early appointments and I could not afford to wait to be seated and the egg situation turned me off. PHK seemed to be even busier at breakfast and sat me immediately. The shuttle situation was also not ideal as the pickup point was not clear online and was difficult to find in the complex Shinjuku station. I ended up taking a taxi after giving up. Then when I used it during my stay it turned out to be on a side street with no obvious signage and no cover. It also did not operate before 9 or after 9 so in many cases I ended up taking a taxi or walking to the station. The spa situation was also awkward as you must take one elevator down and walk through reception to get to another elevator. I did not want to walk in my robe in a busy area and ended up not using the spa during my stay. On check-out I was not asked if I needed a taxi to the airport, I had to request this myself. It was also not offered to have my luggage taken to the taxi like I saw for some other guests. I informed that I ate one jar of gummy bears in my room when asked, but my bill afterward showed two items were charged on multiple days. I assume this was due to not being asked if the charge already showing from my first night was the same and assumed I consumed two jars. I did not realize this until I was on my way to the airport and did not bother to get it corrected due to the small amount. Overall, my stay was a disappointment compared to my previous stay at PHK and was a poor value for my points. In the future, I will be staying at one of the other Hyatt properties in Ginza.

The best overall luxury hotel in Tokyo by far

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The Park Hyatt Tokyo defines genuine and heartfelt luxury hospitality of the most special kind. Every single person we encountered was helpful, friendly and professional and made us feel so welcome. Every single food outlet is incredible (we had multiple meals at each and everyone of them). The special dining events at Girandole and Kozue will always be remembered for their culinary excellence and service. Housekeeping is immaculate. Front desk, valet, bell, concierge team, the spa, and the gym are all incredible. We spend the whole year in luxury hotels and the PH Tokyo is in our all-time top 3. Our two-week stay flew by. We are very much looking forward to a much longer stay soon. Thank you everyone for making every second of our stay special. There is something unique about this place and we will always come back.

Our stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo was a highlight of our trip to Tokyo. Staff were fabulous and anticipated our every need. We especially loved the Japanese-style spa including sauna, steam room, and cold plunge. If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo, I highly recommend this hotel!
