A Truly Perfect Introduction to Japan – An Experience Beyond Every Expectation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 21 hours ago

Our stay at The Peninsula Tokyo was nothing short of extraordinary. This June, I travelled to Japan for the first time with my 10-year-old daughter. Coming all the way from Prague, I wanted our first visit to Japan to be truly unforgettable. I spent months carefully planning every detail of our itinerary, comparing many of Tokyo’s finest luxury hotels before ultimately choosing The Peninsula Tokyo. Looking back, I can confidently say it was one of the best travel decisions I have ever made. From the very beginning, the experience exceeded every expectation. Before we had even arrived in Japan, the concierge team had already impressed me beyond words. I would especially like to thank Ellie Hermoza, together with the entire Concierge Team, for the exceptional support throughout the planning process. Over several months, they helped organise every aspect of our itinerary, from restaurant reservations and transportation to multiple activities each day, including wonderful VIP experiences. Every request was handled with remarkable efficiency, professionalism and warmth. Their responsiveness gave me complete peace of mind, allowing me to simply look forward to our adventure knowing everything had been perfectly arranged. When we finally arrived, we immediately felt welcomed and genuinely cared for. We stayed in an Executive Suite, which was absolutely beautiful—spacious, elegant, impeccably maintained and exceptionally comfortable. Waiting for us was a thoughtful welcome from the General Manager with delicious chocolates and sake, setting the tone for what would become an unforgettable stay. It was the countless thoughtful details that truly made the experience exceptional. The evening turndown service was flawless every single night. One moment perfectly captures the spirit of The Peninsula: one evening I had left my book open on the bed, and when I returned, the team had carefully placed a beautiful traditional Japanese bookmark inside it. Such a simple gesture, yet so thoughtful and elegant. Throughout our stay, there were many moments like this—small surprises and personal touches that made us feel genuinely valued and cared for. The hotel facilities are world-class. The spa is simply spectacular and among the finest I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. The gym is exceptionally well equipped, and both my daughter and I loved spending time in the beautiful swimming pool after our busy sightseeing days. The culinary experience was equally outstanding. Everything we tasted was of exceptional quality, and The Peninsula introduced both my daughter and me to Japanese cuisine in the most wonderful way. Every meal became another memorable part of our journey. Most importantly, every member of staff demonstrated the genuine warmth, grace and hospitality for which Japan is so famous. Their professionalism was effortless, their kindness sincere, and every interaction made us feel truly welcome. Our first visit to Japan could not have been more perfect, and The Peninsula Tokyo played a huge role in creating memories that my daughter and I will cherish forever. Japan has captured our hearts, and when we return—and we certainly will—there is absolutely no question where we will stay. The Peninsula Tokyo has become our home in Japan.

I was so impressed by the hospitality at this hotel! The amenities were also wonderful and the place was spotlessly clean. I would definitely like to stay here again.

Tremendous staff but could do better elsewhere.

Tremendous service from all of the staff and the location is great. However, the rooms still have fax machines and DVD players, so could do with a clear out, and the breakfasts were uninspiring.

A wonderful hotel

The hospitality was excellent, and I had a very comfortable stay. When it comes to toilets and showers, Japan is the best.

Outstanding Stay! Great for family travel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We had an outstanding stay at Peninsula Tokyo. I love the decor, the views, but what really makes the property stand out is the food and the staff. We loved getting such a wonderful room service breakfast and the breakfast buffets at Peter. We loved Peter and Zuicho for dinner, the lobby for afternoon tea (which we had for dinner), and room service (which we had a few nights - lots of great options.) We swam in the pool multiple days. It just served as a great home for our family, a great base for our adventures in Tokyo. Any time we needed help the staff was there to respond quickly. I liked that we received what felt like Japanese hospitality - some other hotels employ a lot of people who are not actually from Japan. The Pen chat feature is awesome - it’s so convenient and the staff is so helpful! We used it to booked some great adventures via the concierge desk. Also…super spacious, and well thought-out rooms with huge closets and great sitting and dining areas. Just everything you want in a city property, great location where we could walk out right into areas with good shops and things to do. Highly recommend!
