Fairmont Royal York

Stunning hotel. Bedroom of a good size, bathroom small but well proportioned. Really helpful and friendly concierge (sorry didn’t get her name) who gave us plenty of info and recommendations for eating places in the Distillery District. Amazing reception area, 3 fab bars too with good choice of cocktails. Found all the staff friendly. Highly recommended

Demi Junio in the Fairmont Gold Lounge at the Fairmont Royal York provided exceptional customer service. She was incredibly friendly, welcoming, professional and attentive throughout our stay. Demi genuinely cares about making guests feel special and is a true asset to the Fairmont Gold team!

Beautiful hotel - suite was gorgeous in gold tier. Fab breakfasts and complimentary snacks during days and evenings. Took trip to Niagara from here. Wonderful couple of nights. Comfy bed and lovely bathroom. Nice gifts from hotel as we were celebrating Golden Wedding and 60th birthdays.

Carlo made a very last minute reservation for us at Pai - Duncan. The table we were seated at was intimate and in a quiet corner. On our first night Carly gifted us with a touching hand written card and glorious treats. She was also able to extend our stay for another night; she is making our special happen! We are creating unforgettable memories!! Daryl, our housekeeper, gifted us with a beautiful bottle of wine and a hand written note; we are truly feeling all the love.

I would like to start with the positives. Very nice old hotel like all the CP hotels, which it was originally. Beautiful location across the street from Union Station and close to multiple restaurant, shopping and tourist attractions. (CN Tower, Rogers Center, Hockey Hall of Fame etc..) We were in town for the week end to see the Aug 22 Ed Sheeran show. The elevator system may be a bit confusing at first but is extremely efficient. Never had to wait more than 30sec for an elevator and was never in a overcrowded one either. Excellent. The place is very nice and the rooms quite awesome. Now the less favourable things. The entrance from front street that is across the street from union station has only stairs. So a bit difficult for a 66 year old with a cane and his 65 year old wife to get in the hotel with our luggage. Then we get to the front desk and had to stand in line on a ramp, meaning we had to stop our luggage from rolling back for the entire time we waited, fortunately it was only about 20 minutes. But imagine someone in a wheel chair having to wait on an incline for 20 minutes. This would easily be resolved by using ropes to designate a waiting area at the top of the ramp. Last bad point, in room dining. We tried to order breakfast, 2 eggs and bacon with toast. Not on the menu but they were willing to do it. $32. For 2 eggs and bacon with toast. Does not include coffee or tea, or peanut butter. We got eggs that were slightly over cooked, bacon was good, presentation was what i would expect at a fast food joint where i would pay less than $10, not $32. On top of that 2 breakfast at $32 each came out to a $90 bill after extra charges not mentioned in the price of the meal. Which included roughly $30 in charges. An %18 service fee which they never mentioned, not even the server. I had to ask what it was. It’s gratuities. Now i have been to europe where 15% charge is added to your bill but there they tell you and they don’t expect a tip. Not here, here they charge you 18%, which I almost never leave as tip ( I leave 15% if you did your job well, 18% if you went above and beyond or made my stay more pleasure able because of your actions.). Then they add a $6 fee for room delivery, what did I just py 18% for? Was that not for delivery? Another hidden fee. Unacceptable. That by itself is why I would never order or eat in this hotel ever. A 28 days aged steak at $86 when just across the street at Kelly’s landing I got a beautiful 40 days aged steak for $49. The overpricing of the substandard food is truly disgusting and shameful for what is otherwise a great hotel. In short, you should definitely stay here for the amenities but under no circumstances should you actually eat here.
