Uncaring management at Fairmont Royal York

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

Do not stay at Fairmont Ritual York. Management has no concern for it's customers. My son and I traveled to Toronto for family weekend. I had prepaid for our stay but the hotel requires a deposit for incidentals. I scanned my AmEx but the terminal indicated that I need to include my pin. I explained to reception that we do not chip and pin in the United States. She checked with the manager and told me that we could not stay at the hotel. I asked where should I stay at 12:30 a.m.? She suggested that I apply for a refund. Ultimately, the manager came out and had me try my card again. Apparently, the system mis-read my card and writing requested a pin. I was later contacted by management to ask about my stay. I responded and was ignored. I tried again and Arthav sent a response, his comments and mine are presented verbatim. Dear Mr. Findling, thank you for sharing your feedback. Our hotel credit policy requires a valid credit card for the incidental deposit at check-in with chip and pin. If a card cannot be processed at the front desk, the only alternative is a secure credit card authorization link, which must be arranged at least 72 hours before arrival. Based on our review, our team was following these requirements while exploring available options to assist you. We understand the situation was frustrating, particularly given the late hour, but our intention was never to leave you without assistance, and we are pleased a solution was ultimately found. I am sorry that your experience left you feeling our team was not trying to help. We will share your comments with the team as a reminder of the importance of clear communication and reassurance when navigating challenging situations. If there is anything I can do to make up for the inconvenience caused, please let know. -Atharv, Front Office Manager Atharv, you miss the point. I understand your hotel's rules. It wasn't my fault thatmy card didn't work. It is the Fairmont Royal York's error for being unpreparedn if this were to happen. Your staff did what they were supposed to do because management failed to consider how to care for its customers. I will copy your comments and share my concerns with trip advisor. Others will be able to evaluate the lack of concern or empathy from management. "Sorry Mr. Findling, you can't stay here. We are not prepared for situations where your credit card system fails. Good luck finding a place to stay at 12:30a.m. On the bright side, you should be able to get a refund. " I will copy your message and my response verbatim. Regards, David Findling

Not worth the price; a bit tired

While certainly an older, classic and historic hotel, the rooms were a bit tired. Not worth the price.

Not worth the price, public access to back elevators to guest floors

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Hotel was a step up over the Jasper property. Convenient to downtown and the rail station however the price is not worth it. Room came with mandatory minibar fridge that you cannot use and must instead rent a mini fridge. For the price paid, a mini fridge fee is a bit much to charge. We also had to go down one elevator walk to the other end of the hotel through a public area, to reach another elevator to reach our room. Bit sketch since the public can access the elevator with you and access floors. Not ideal. Stay elsewhere.

We had a great time. The hotel has excellent staff and service. The food is outstanding and the cocktails are too. It’s is a perfect place to go for 2 nights. This package deal you offer is fantastic. I will do it again. Thanks very much!
