Comfortable hotel

Great location. Friendly reception staff. Rooms are comfortable. Visited the restaurant- being in Vancouver I expected options for some Asian dishes. Not available. Breakfast menu was fine- standard dishes.

Luxury at the Airport!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed here because of a 6am flight and we needed to be close to the airport. Luxurious older hotel and outrageously expensive however the service and food were good and the rooms were totally soundproof. Literally walked out of the hotel to the airline checkin desk. We would stay here again.

Planes and telescope in luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My wife and I stayed here for one night before returning to UK. We opted for the gold executive lounge floor, on the 14th floor, as a treat. This included access to the lounge. We were able to check in an hour early and shown to the lifts. The room was spacious with airport views and a telescope. We did not hear the noise of the planes. We really enjoyed watching the planes landing and sometimes taking off. The bathroom was an irregular hexagonal shape, with a separate toilet. There was a walk-in shower, spa bath, many towels and rose toiletries. There was a desk and chair, easy chair, fridge, Nespresso coffee machine. There were multiple lights and controls. In the lounge early afternoon, cookies, nut mix, crackers, olives and sun-dried tomatoes were available. From 1700, hors d’oeuvre included spring rolls, aubergine “stew”, cooked chicken, various cold salads, cheeses and meats. An honesty bar operated where one was expected to declare what drinks one had consumed. A glass of wine was $18. At 2000 desserts were served. There was a choice of 3. 2 were similar in that they were filled with confectioner’s cream and the third was chocolate. A deluxe breakfast was served after 6am (continental from 4am). There was a selection of cooked foods, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, bread and cold food e.g. smoked salmon. The hot foods were lukewarm, at best. It was an excellent selection which we enjoyed. It was extremely easy to get to the airport, We had a great time and definitely felt we had a treat! The only downside was the presence of young children in the lounge, at times running and shouting, and even handling the food with the fingers instead of using the tongs provided.

Overpriced. Staff dreadful. Avoid.

We chose this place as after a long flight from the UK we wanted to rest before picking up our hire car and starting our drive to Calgary. My colleague had recommended it. Despite it being hideously expensive I thought I’d book it as a treat. What a let down. This property should not be badged as a Fairmont. I know the Savoy in London and the Fairmont in Dubai and this is not in that class. Room was ok but for over £400 a night ridiculously overpriced. Service (with 2 exceptions) dreadful. Fairmont Gold - really? The property looks tired and the staff need a real kick. This place makes money due to its location and nothing else. Room - safe didn’t work, sockets by bed didn’t work. Rubbish, dirty laundry and other detritus left on corridor of premium floor and not cleared till we moaned. Staff - except for Johanna at the club reception and 1 of the bellman, no one interested or motivated. Took some guests to the lounge for coffee - was told it’s closed. So went to breakfast (late morning) ignored by hosts and staff. Waited 10 mins for someone to even speak to us. Server took forever and didn’t listen to order and tried to upsell us when we’d said what we wanted. Took ages to get 5 coffees. Seriously - is this is a hotel? Pathetic. Club - scruffy and tired. Tables just sprayed with cleaner so tacky and not clean. Wine is honesty bar. You pay over £400 a night and don’t even get a free glass of wine at the club. Oh come on. Spoke to duty manager who was ok but didn’t even bother to show his face. Shows how much they really care about customers. This place may offer jacuzzi baths and clothes brushes but it’s people that make a hotel. Its service and care and this place lacks any sense of either. Dreadful. Avoid.

Pricey but worth it

Our flight arrived late evening so how convenient was it to merely roll our bags over here and climb into the very comfy bed. Many amenities were available in our spacious room. It was whisper quiet which allowed for a great night’s sleep. Highly recommend.
