Comfortable room but service was poor

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Booked a base room with two queen beds and due to my Accor status was upgraded to a deluxe with 2 queen beds. The only noticeable differed from the room booked was a higher floor and a Nespresso machine. The staff member checking me in didn’t seem on the ball. There was no explanation of hotel facilities, nor the time and place for breakfast. Our stay was Christmas Eve and we had a Christmas Day flight departing at 8pm. So when I requested a late checkout and was granted 5pm, I was very pleased. I suspect my Accor status helped with this. Being Christmas Eve the restaurant was not doing a la carte. After tax would have been about AUD 600 for the three of us. No thanks. Instead the dinner menu in the bar seemed okay and we selected items that were in highlighted boxes. Only after ordering them were we told they were unavailable because the kitchen was doing a buffet. It was a major service fail and so we just ordered a couple of entrees. Our room rate has breakfast included and I was expecting the usual hotel buffet. However, this hotel only does a la carte breakfast and it turned out that “breakfast included” was really just a CAD30 per person credit. That’s pretty cheap when the cooked items on the breakfast menu were about CAD28. Add in juice for CAD8 and coffee CAD7, plus tax and your included breakfast actually costs about CAD15 per person on top of what you’ve already paid. Plus, servings were small and the “bacon” was just warmed ham. Pretty poor overall. Pros: * Good room * Comfortable bed * Generous late check out. Cons: * Some staff were not up to Fairmont standards. * Kitchen couldn’t handle the regular menu and the Christmas buffet simultaneously. * Overpriced, poor quality breakfast. Overall: You pay a significant premium because this is the only Hotel actually at Vancouver airport, but the service downs match the price or the Fairmont brand.

Spacious room

We enjoyed our overnight stay at this Fairmont hotel; connected by an indoor escalator to the Vancouver Airport. Really convenient for short layovers! Huge windows and lovely large bathroom were the first amenities we noticed. A regular-sized tub! Bed was very comfortable and had selection of pillows to choose from. Instead of putting a privacy card on the hallway side of our door, we could press a wall button to signal “do not disturb”. Thanks for a lovely stay.

One of the Best Parts of My Flying to/from Vancouver

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I've stayed at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport several times, both when traveling solo and with my family. It costs a bit more than hotels outside the airport, but it's worth it for the comfort, convenience and the warmth of the staff here. Instead of waking up at 4am to get on a ferry and then bus or taxi to the airport, I can stay at the Fairmont and sleep in, eat a leisurely breakfast and then casually stroll to the check-in counters. This alone is worth the price of admission. But the crowning glory here is the staff. I don't know how they do it, but everyone here remembers your name and they greet your personally upon arrival and in the morning. I've had great interactions with everyone here, but Dmitry really deserves a special mention. He always greets me with a big smile when I appear in the lobby and he goes out of the way to see that my family and I are comfortable. Finally, the views here are fantastic: you can see planes landing and taking off, sunsets over the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island, and the coastal ranges. It's the perfect way to begin a trip to Asia or anywhere else in the world. Highly recommended!

Solid Airport Hotel right in the Terminal

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Good option for a night before/after a flight. Huge hotel that is directly connected to the terminal (although signage from customs could be better). Gold level probably not worth the premium, interiors feel a bit dated and sound insulation from the planes could be better, but for an airport hotel about as good as it gets.
