Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

Overall great, comfortable hotel with a "boutique" feel in a good way - meaning intimate rather than pretentious. Warm, professional staff. We stayed for a week as part of a conference. King 'corner' room was very nice although cramped - would be perfect for one traveler but two made it awkward to get around. Lots of drawers and adequate closet space, which is appreciated by these older travelers - lots of modern hotels don't give you a place to put your clothes. Our 14th floor room has windows on two sides, and got quite warm in the afternoon and the HVAC seemed unable to keep up with it even though it was in the 60's outside. Nice bathroom with plenty of counter space and a large shower stall. There's one nice restaurant with a bar - we had breakfast there the first two mornings before our conference started - pleasant and efficient service. We did not have lunch or dinner there but ended up having a drink in the bar almost every night. There's a "main" bar in the front area, and then there's a lovely wood-paneled room in the back called the Garrard Room (Gerard?) that we preferred. I think you need to ask the host/hostess to sit back there as they also serve food in that area. Great bartenders. Decent gym for a hotel - there's a residential tower attached to the hotel and I think the residents used that gym as well. Also an indoor pool (didn't use). Great area for both tourists or business travelers. Lots of restaurants at all price points in walking distance. Highly recommend the Vancouver Italian Kitchen across the street for upscale Italian.

We had a lovely, spacious room with great views. The hotel is in a good central location. Staff were exceptionally helpful, allowing people into their rooms as soon as they had been cleaned, and quite a bit earlier than check in time.

Well, hit and miss. It's a very nice place with a heated indoor pool, important to me as a person with a disability, although it's all one depth so not possible to do walking in it, and a good restaurant. We stayed here years ago and thought the decor they used to have was much warmer and prettier, rose colors and antique looking furniture instead of the new, bland, grey, teal, beige interior with modern business looking furniture. But we were glad to have two rooms since we'd be there nearly a week. I had joined their reward program. The housekeeping staff is intermittent; if you turn on the red light outside your room, they leave teh room alone, and if the light's off, they are supposed to service it, but we found that they didn't service every day even when the light was off and we were out for hours. A little problem because the towels don't dry in 24 hours and there are no heated towel racks. We had a problem while we were there and it was made right by giving us a credit, so I won't go into what it was, but it did take a few tries to work it out. We felt that the solution was almost equitable so accepted it. The front desk people are polite as are those at the concierge desk, and the restaurant serves a fairly good breakfast whether room service or in the restaurant, although they don't always bring everything you ask for. I mean, it's a big hotel with a lot of orders going in at once and they do deliver promptly, so a few errors are not much of an offense. Parking is expensive; we self-parked and it's still pricey. There are good restaurants right across the street, and that's another bonus for us when we stay in a city; I use a mobility scooter so we like close restaurants. Would probably stay here again, especially since they did correct the problem we had. I think they could step up efficiency with the housekeeping staff and room service fulfillment, but if you're pretty flexible, you might not mind these faux pas.
