Reviews for Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

An egregious experience.

An imposing entrance and a warm welcome from doormen and plentiful attending staff to unload luggage and usher into imposing, spacious, lobby. However! We had requested 2 beds and were told, condescendingly, that we had been upgraded to a suite as there were no twin bedded rooms available, despite our having booked months in advance. Our first impression of the suite was soiled by the awful 'dirty carpet' smell, swiftly followed by the realisation that there was, in fact, only one bed in the bedroom, and a 'put you up' sofa in the living/dining/ kitchen area, which had not been made up. The bell hop said we would find sheets blankets and pillows. We opened the balcony door wide to let in fresh air and requested that something be done about the smell in the room and that the sofa-bed be made up, with a duvet. A carpet spray was brought and the bed made up. My friend insisted I took the bedroom and she spent an extremely uncomfortable night on the sofa bed. We found the public rooms shabby, grubby and outdated, and the public washrooms, despite looking brand, spanking new, were also dirty - especially behind the cubicle doors and within the cubicles themselves. The carpet in the lounge area on front of the concierge desk was disgustingly grubby with many stains and marks, of which I took photographs, and the seating sagging and apparently aging or, at best, well-used. Over all, an egregious experience. I would not recommend.

Excellent hotel and super helpful staff

A fantastic hotel with helpful, friendly front of house staff and a great concierge. Well appointed, comfortable room and excellent location for eateries and buses. We were given a kettle and fridge when we asked. Nothing was too much trouble. They also stored our luggage before check in and brought it to our room. Highly recommended.

Perfect location for exploring Vancouver

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed in the 2 bed suites for 2 nights at the beginning of our tour vacation & 1 night at the end. The hotel is quite grand and is situated ideally for exploring the city. Within 30 mins you can walk to Stanley Park, Gas Town & Granville Island. Also there is a hop on hop off bus stop just outside which was very handy. We had breakfast in the restaurant- very nice and ok price. First suite was a little tired looking but clean and spacious. No air conditioning in bedrooms. Second suite on 18th floor had been renovated and much more modern looking. My only negatives would be in one bedroom the lighting was very poor and no mirror in the room.

A lovely quality hotel

I don't know how this compares pricewise with other hotels in Vancouver but we simply loved our stay here. The rooms are spacious, beautifully equipped, comfortable and quiet with a fantastic sense of understated luxury. The hotel is centrally located and on the Ferry Connector bus route from Victoria. There is a fantastic, decent sized pool in the basement. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and seem keen to make sure you have a great stay. If I had one gripe it would be that the room fridge has some ghastly mechanism for recording anything you remove to slap on your bill and has no room for anything you might want to put in it. I really don't wish to share my accommodation with a glorified vending machine.

Dingy with mattress stain!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I have stayed at Sutton a few times over the years for work so it felt like a nice gesture, upon checking in, to be told I had been upgraded to a one bedroom suite. That said, after she started pointing out where things were I realized that wasn't the case. Once I entered the room, it was a disappointment. It was a one bedroom suite on the first floor with a seperate kitchen, living room and a stale odour throughout. It was dark and dingy with dirty ceilings. I know the hotel was renovated a few years ago but it appears the left wing was not. The room had holes in the closet, and being on the first floor it was noisy and not ideal for a solo business traveler. In addition, the patio door could not be closed which posed a safety concern for me. I immediately requested to change rooms. It was also late in the evening which meant the convenience store and eateries around were closed, which added to my disappointment. As a business traveler (very clear as the room was booked through a company) , there should have been more thought process in placing me in a suite meant for folks with families; it was not ideal to be placed there. My new room on the 11th floor was fine, minnus the stain on the mattress. There for two days, what do you do? Just bear up and review. I went to take a swim at the highly touted pool and found the water cloudy. When asked how my stay was upon checking out. I did state it wasn't great. Clearly it wasn't a concern as she didn't follow up to ask why/what as I would certainly share the yellow stained mattress picture. Maybe I am a little spoiled by previous stays at the lovely boutique hotels Opus and Loedon, which are much cleaner and the staff more attentive. Pictures are attached to attest.

We stayed 5 nights at the Sutton Place Vancouver. The suite was very nice and the staff very professional. Spa treatments were very good. Afternoon tea, which was included in the package, was wonderful. Although we typically do not eat at hotel restaurants, the package included dinner and it too was excellent. It doesn’t get much better than Sutton Place.
