My partner knew that I had always loved the way Venice looked in The Tourist. Not the story, but the city itself. So during our European trip, he chose this hotel. We hired a water taxi and arrived exactly as Venice should be experienced, by water, right to the hotel’s entrance. From the moment they handed us those old-fashioned room keys with their heavy key fobs, it felt as though we had stepped into another era. The design, the bathroom, the atmosphere… everything made you feel like you weren’t just visiting Venice, but becoming a small part of its history. And the location… I honestly couldn’t have imagined anything better. People often think wealth is measured by money. I don’t. Our greatest wealth is the experiences we collect and the memories we create. This hotel became one of those memories for us.

My wife and I spent three nights here for our anniversary. The historical architecture of the building is stunning, and walking into the lobby feels like stepping into a museum. The location is perfect—right on the lagoon and a three-minute walk to St. Mark's Square. We highly recommend having breakfast on the rooftop at Terrazza Danieli. The views of the water from the terrace are spectacular, and the service there was attentive. Bar Dandolo downstairs also makes excellent cocktails with a great piano player in the evening. However, the hotel suffers from structural limitations due to its age. The standard rooms are cramped, the plumbing can be temperamental with unstable hot water pressure, and the main entrance gets incredibly chaotic with tour groups and onlookers just blocking the doors to take photos. You are paying a massive premium for the brand and the history. It is a memorable stay, but be prepared for some old-building inconveniences.

We have stayed here on a few occasions over the years, although we no longer do so as we prefer modern, new, state of the art luxury suites. However, we never visit Venice without booking to dine at their superb rooftop restaurant, which is particularly good for breakfasts on Sunday mornings to enjoy the cacophony of church bells along with the glorious views. We also have to visit their fabulous cocktail bar on the ground floor next to the gorgeous main staircase. The waiters are simply terrific, the barmen are the best. We always start with champagne cocktails and they simply cannot be bettered. The nibbles that arrive with cocktails are lovely and the icing on the cake is the exceptional pianist/vocalist. Sometimes during busy periods, those enjoying cocktails are spread out outside of the Bar area in all of the other seating covering the immense, grand, glorious and most beautiful ground floor area. When this happens, the atmosphere is simply incredible. This is one of our favourite bars in the world and by coincidence our second most favourite bar is only a short walk away, Harry’s Bar. If you wanted to taste a stay surrounded by grand elegance from yesteryear this is THE hotel to experience. Especially waking up to the views and then going onto the roof for breakfast. Even if you were not staying, a visit to the cocktail bar is an absolute must, no reservation required. While you are there, evil want to get your photograph taken on the stair staircase next to the bar.

We were celebrating my wife’s birthday, and from the moment we arrived, the level of service, attention to detail, and genuine care from every member of the staff were beyond exceptional. We were greeted warmly by Damiano, whose professionalism and kindness set the tone for our stay. Alessandro handled our check-in with such attentiveness that we immediately felt valued and welcomed. Throughout our time at the hotel, it seemed as though every staff member knew it was my wife’s birthday—and each one went out of their way to acknowledge it in the most thoughtful, heartfelt manner. It made the entire experience incredibly personal. The highlight of our celebration was dinner at the rooftop restaurant, which was unforgettable. From the gracious welcome to the impeccable service, everything was orchestrated to perfection. The sommelier and the head waiter were outstanding—knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely invested in making the evening special. They transformed what was already a beautiful setting into a truly magical birthday dinner. Finally, our checkout with Silvia was handled with the same level of care and professionalism that we experienced throughout our stay. She was wonderful—attentive, friendly, and the perfect final touch to an exceptional visit. Hotel Danieli is not just a stunning property; it’s a place filled with remarkable people who elevate every moment. We left with full hearts, unforgettable memories, and immense appreciation for the team who made my wife’s birthday so extraordinary. We cannot wait to return.
