One of Italy’s most enchanting secrets, San Clemente Palace is a city resort located on its own island in the Venice lagoon, just 10 minutes from San Marco Square via the hotel’s complimentary boats. A tranquil sanctuary on the doorstep of Venice, San Clemente Palace is one of Italy’s most enchanting secrets. The stately resort immerses guests in the drama, glamour, and heritage of Venice. The 900-year-old landmark property is comprised of a series of beautifully restored monastery buildings, as well as a 12th-century chapel, and nearly 15 acres of ancient gardens, courtyards, and terraces boasting breath-taking views of the city on the horizon.
San Clemente Palace has 170 luxury rooms & suites in which Venetian decorations blend with legacy design elements, while typical high Venetian ceilings create a sense of home. The hotel features three bars and three special restaurants, including a signature restaurant with terraces overlooking the lagoon. Indulge in the restaurants Acquerello and Insieme, offering exceptional interpretations of iconic Italian and Venetian specialties whereas La Dolce Brasserie Restaurant & Pool Bar features a unique culinary experience that combines the signature dishes of unique local Italian and Mediterranean dishes and flavors.

The Ultimate Way to Experience Venice – A Private Island of Luxury, Peace and Timeless Beauty Having stayed at many of the world’s finest luxury hotels, I can confidently say that San Clemente Palace offers one of the most unique and unforgettable hotel experiences we have ever had. The greatest luxury here is not simply the beautiful rooms or impeccable service—it’s the fact that the entire resort is located on its own private island in the Venetian Lagoon. The moment you step off the boat, the atmosphere changes completely. Instead of crowds, noise and busy streets, you find yourself surrounded by centuries-old gardens, magnificent architecture and complete tranquility. This is, without question, the most relaxing way to experience Venice. One of the biggest advantages of San Clemente Palace is its complimentary private boat service, which departs approximately every 20 minutes and reaches St. Mark’s Square in just 10 minutes. It gives you the best of both worlds: spend the day exploring one of the world’s most beautiful cities, then return to your peaceful island sanctuary where luxury, silence and nature replace the crowds and endless queues. The island itself is spectacular. The gardens are among the most beautiful we have seen at any European luxury hotel—immaculately maintained, incredibly spacious and perfect for relaxing walks. One of the most charming surprises was discovering rabbits, peacocks and other wildlife freely roaming around the island, adding even more character and making the entire experience feel truly magical. The outdoor swimming pool, beautifully positioned within the gardens, is another highlight of the resort. Spending the afternoon by the pool after sightseeing in Venice felt like being at an exclusive Mediterranean retreat rather than just minutes from one of Europe’s busiest tourist destinations. Our room was exceptionally spacious, elegant and incredibly comfortable. The renovated rooms are finished to a very high standard, beautifully combining historic Venetian charm with modern luxury and every comfort expected from a world-class five-star resort. The culinary experience was equally impressive. Every meal was beautifully presented, prepared using exceptional ingredients and served with flawless attention to detail. Breakfast was outstanding, while dinner easily ranked among the finest meals we enjoyed during our stay in Italy. What truly makes San Clemente Palace exceptional, however, is its people. A very special and heartfelt thank you goes to General Manager Jack Nahmias and Davide Donati. Exceptional hotels are built by exceptional leaders, and it is immediately evident that their passion, professionalism and attention to detail define everything that makes San Clemente Palace so extraordinary. The atmosphere throughout the resort, the motivation of the staff and the flawless guest experience are a direct reflection of their leadership. Their kindness, generosity and genuine care made our stay not only luxurious but truly memorable. Thank you both for creating one of the finest hospitality experiences we have ever enjoyed. We have been fortunate enough to stay at many of the world’s leading luxury hotels—including Aman, Four Seasons, Six Senses, Mandarin Oriental and Ritz-Carlton—and the level of hospitality we experienced at San Clemente Palace genuinely belongs among the very best. San Clemente Palace is much more than a luxury hotel. It is a destination in itself—a peaceful oasis where history, nature, impeccable service and timeless elegance come together to create an experience unlike anywhere else in Venice. If you are looking for the finest possible way to discover Venice without sacrificing privacy, tranquility or luxury, I genuinely believe there is no better place to stay. Without any hesitation, this is one of the best luxury resorts in Italy and one of the most memorable hotels we have ever visited. We are already looking forward to returning to this extraordinary private island.

Absolutely outstanding! From the large, spotless and tastefully furnished rooms and high ceilings, to the huge pool and gardens - and especially the unfailingly attentive and friendly staff. Beautiful and to the highest standards in every respect, yet feels amazingly informal and unstuffy. All at 10 mins by complementary wooden motor boat from San Marco. Without doubt of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had, and the ideal way to enjoy everything Venice has to offer.

A truly memorable Venetian stay, made exceptional by the people I had stayed a couple of times in Venice before but my stay here truely gave me a different perspective on Venice I spent six nights at San Clemente Palace during Festa del Redentore, and the hotel became an important part of my Venice experience rather than simply somewhere to sleep. The private island setting is remarkable: peaceful grounds, beautiful lagoon views and a wonderful pool, while the regular boat service makes San Marco easy to reach. Some of my favourite memories from the entire trip were actually those crossings heading into Venice in the morning and returning across the lagoon in the evening. After long, hot days exploring the city, coming back to the quiet of San Clemente felt incredibly special. I am also very glad I made time to enjoy the hotel itself. The pool was a perfect retreat, and my final lagoon side dinner was a beautiful way to end the trip, with excellent food, golden evening light and wonderfully attentive service. Food and drinks are certainly priced at luxury hotel levels, so guests should arrive expecting that. What truly distinguished this stay, however, was the staff. Dilara from Guest Relations deserves a very special mention. She was warm, attentive and genuinely thoughtful throughout my visit. She always was present when I needed something and on my final day, I returned to find a handwritten farewell note. It was an unexpectedly personal gesture that went far beyond ordinary hotel service. She made me feel welcomed and seen as an individual, and that kind of hospitality stays with you long after checking out. Menelaus at the bar also brought genuine warmth and personality to every interaction. Checkout and the arrangement of my airport water taxi were handled smoothly as well. I arrived expecting a beautiful private island hotel. I left remembering not only the setting, but the people who made it feel so personal. I would happily return.

We stayed here in June 2026 with our three kids (ages 10, 8 and 6) and had a wonderful experience. The staff was so kind and helpful with dinner reservations and recommendations for the area. Our kids loved the pool and the freedom to roam freely, with Venice a close and convenient boat ride away. The rooms were spacious and we loved the large bathrooms after staying down on the Amalfi Coast where quarters were a bit tighter!
