Immaculate resort directly on Vero Beach

Visited for a weekend stay. Great resort location directly on the beach and within easy walking distance of downtown shops, restaurants, etc. Overall resort is very attractive and in immaculate condition. Every employee we interacted with was friendly and eager to help, especially DeMarko at the front desk who went above and beyond. Room was larger than average and quite well appointed. On property restaurant Cobalt was outstanding (see separate review). Note property is compact so no long walks to your room or any resort facilities. Pool area and spa are very nice although outdoor seating may be limited when the resort is busy. Valet parking was also reasonably priced.

It has been a long time since we stayed at the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa. My husband and I loved bringing our family here many times before Covid took over. We finally made it back to visit one of our favorite places. We found that some things are still great and others could use a little work. When we arrived we were greeted with very nice valet attendants who were a big help with bringing our things to our room. We also appreciated Joe’s help during our stay. Evan was wonderful at check in and was very responsive and helpful with some special requests that we had. He was very friendly as we saw him a few times at the hotel. The wine happy hour was still a part of our stay which we enjoyed. Our room was great, something we always appreciate when staying here. It was clean and comfortable with lots of space. Best views are from 4th floor. Some things that have changed were that the hotel seemed to need some updates and improvements with room furniture and pool/ beach furniture. A lot seems outdated compared to before. Also the cleanliness wasn’t the same. The pool deck had straws and leftover trash from the day before which would never have happened before. The carpet areas in the hotel seemed dirty and in need of vacuuming. I remember everything being impeccable during previous visits which always made us want to return. Cobalt breakfast was fine but very expensive for a couple of scrambled eggs, some bacon, and a piece of toast. I added a small cup of fruit (strawberries and blueberries) for $8.00. For 1 person it was a $28.00 breakfast with just water as a beverage. It was good but I don’t think it was worth that much. Heaton’s was good. My husband had a $26 burger that he said was really good. Drink prices definitely increased! I remember Heaton’s had a better poolside menu with more options before. Now it is very limited. Also remember that Heaton’s would do a special cocktail of the day which was great back in the day. The valet gentlemen were excellent help on the day that we checked out! Overall it is still a very nice place to stay and we love seeing employees at Heaton’s and at Valet that are still here after over 15 years! The staff is always amazing here!!! It has been very hard to be able to afford coming here since the hotel became part of the IHG group. Since post Covid the room rates are a bit ridiculous and at times are at least double if not more what we paid when it was just a Kimpton property. With the current prices you would think that things would be updated accordingly. I really hope that IHG can give some TLC to this beautiful place and restore it to the level that it was before.

Hidden fees, poorly run hotel. Too expensive to deal with the lack of care.

My mother and I took a mini (2 night stay) at this hotel. We rented the best room they have. The grand suite with two king rooms. For two nights the total was 1,078.73 Then there was a 98.00 charge as well as 136.31 taxes. The total amount was $1313.04. That is too much money to have all the issues we had during our stay. Firstly, after we got in the room there was no dish soap to wash dishes or sponge. The dishwasher was full of clean dishes that were never put away from the maids. So we had to put them away ourselves. There was no accommodations for the two dogs we had which they had assured me there would be bowls and beds in the rooms for the dogs. They also take a picture upon arrival with your pets which did not happen. That night our a/c stopped working. It did not get extremely hot but we had no a/c for a good 8 hours. When we woke up the a/c was working again. When we walked the dogs in the morning we noticed an a/c company vehicle there. I got a text message from the hotel asking how our stay was going after coming back to the room after walking the dogs. I then told them about the a/c issue as well as the dishwasher and kitchen cleaning supplies. I also mentioned the lack of dog accommodations in the room. They apologized for the kitchen issues and said they would have someone bring those items up ( we waited 30 minutes for items to be brought to the room after I required again). They also had two bowls brought up and one bed for the dogs I HAVE TWO DOGS. The maid that brought everything to the door was rude and acted like he couldn't be bothered to bring the items up. He knocked and just left them by the front door but when he brought the towels he had a disgusted face on. I did have one of the managers bring up towels personally and he was super friendly and nice. However, they completely ignored the a/c concern. I then implied again and they basically just apologized for the lack of a/c and said the a/c company was there for "regular" maintenance and had nothing to do with our a/c not working. After pressing them again they gave us 104.96 off for a "resort fee". I feel like that is a slap in the face with how much we spent a night and had to deal with it being way warmer than it should have been. On the day we were leaving we asked for late checkout. Check out is 11 but late check out is 12. They said they could not accommodate us because they had the room booked. We called down to the desk to have the valet come get our bags. We waited 40 minutes to where it was now 11:40 and nobody had came. We had rushed to get everything packed to be out at 11 and now were just sitting and waiting wasting what could have been time at the beach. Yet they couldn't give us until 12 to check out? At this point the dogs now need to be walked again. When I came down I saw my car pulled up. I walked over to the valet and said I see you have my car pulled up but we have been waiting for 40 minutes to have someone come get our bags. He said there must be some confusion they said to only pull your car around. He wasn't very friendly about it as if it was my fault they have communication problems. The total amount charged to my card was $1323.50 when it was suppose to be 1313.04. There was nothing on the bill that showed the resort fee taken off. We also got charged for valet when Florida residents are suppose to have that waived. The amount does not add up. I called and talked to billing and the lady was not very friendly and told me I didn't see the charge taken off because they just never charged it. I said so you don't add resort fees in when you give a total amount at booking?? She said no. Sorry I don't believe that. The bill should have reflected the amount being taken off not just "we didn't charge you for it". It's unfortunate we had all these issues as I live 45 minutes away and would have loved this to be a mini vacation spot as they do take Great Danes. Be very wary of charges and the lack of care when you have an issue. Never again.

We were part of a group of over 30 family members who stayed for 4 nights. Our stay was amazing! The staff were incredibly attentive, rooms were spacious and clean, beach was beautiful, pool was relaxing, grounds were well maintained and food was delicious. We truly felt welcome and well cared for! Special thanks to management and staff for their outstanding hospitality!
