Founded in the early Twenties with the name Select Palace Hotel, in 1925 it was extended by two floors and embellished by the magnificent façade that harmonizes the central part. Time has transformed it into a Grand Hotel of international fame that is the preferred residence of aristocrats, intellectuals, and artists alike. Rechristened the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte in 1938, its grandeur has captured the attention of countless directors becoming the scene for prestigious cinematographic productions. Restored to the height of its splendor in 2004, after 19 months of restoration, today the Principe is unquestionably one of the world’s most historic and elegant hotels. The Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte has 102 rooms and suites laid out across five themed floors either with a sea view or looking out at the Apuan Alps with every modern comfort and offering truly excellent service. The rooftop terrace is situated on the top floor of the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte, a stunning location with a magnificent pool overlooking the sea of Versilia.

As anybody can see from the reviews I have written over 20 years, whenever possible we book 5 star hotels. We knew this hotel was in that category but what we found was a total surprise. The building celebrated its 100 years in 2022. It must have gone through a complete refurbishment during recent times. Maintaining its classic architecture, the interior is a blend of contemporary furniture with a taste for classism. They used only high quality materials and good taste. The result is an elegant hotel full of details impossible to list but which added up make a lasting impression. They have 3 restaurants. One Michelin star on the ground floor, one more casual on the top floor with a terraced view, another for light lunches above the pool area. All serve excellent food. Additionally they have a huge breakfast room in the style of the old dining rooms of XIX century hotels which serves the most incredible buffet selection I have ever seen. On a rectangular shaped table measuring maybe 50 meters in perimeter you find everything your could desire for breakfast and things you would have never thought about. The selection and options is stunning. We had a suite consisting of a ample living area, 2 marble bathrooms and a large bedroom with generous closet area. Very nicely and elegantly decorated with top bedsheets and amenities. AC and WIFI work perfectly. Electric window shutters enable the darkening of the rooms and silence is total. E-bikes of good quality and a Spa are complimentary at disposal. On the roof they added a hip deep pool with an incredible view of the whole coast Just crossing the street there is a beach club which does not belong to the hotel but works with them for a fee. There you get a changing room with shower, a beach tent, a huge swimming pool and beach restaurant. Very nice for a sandy day experience. Staff is very kind and well trained. Always with a smile, including the Michelin Chef. Viareggio not being a rich and famous watering hole surprises with a hotel like I described. I hope they can maintain this high standard. We where delighted to visit the area and have a place so exceptional to stay.

Just a great experience from start to finish. We arrived slightly early and the hotel had our room ready within half an hour with an upgrade to boot. We were travelling with our 8 year old grandson and the amenities provided for him were top notch - I won’t spoil the surprise for other children but the Principe have kids very well catered for. And then there was the rooftop pool - wow! This was a fabulous space and made even more special by Vicki who worked like a Trojan up there making sure everyone had a great time. She provided towels, water, menus and frankly everything you could want! The food and beverage offer was also first class - the breakfast lived up to the hype and surpassed anything I’ve ever seen and a sunset dinner on the rooftop bistro was similarly awesome. The only blip was a couple of dishes in the rooftop bar at lunch which were only average but were swiftly forgotten amidst the high standards enjoyed everywhere else. The staff were uniformly excellent and really couldn’t do enough for you.

Exceptional stay at Hotel Principe di Piemonte in Viareggio. Jérémie at the front desk and the team at the pool: outstanding professionalism, kindness, and constant care. Guests are truly pampered. The icing on the cake: the two-star chef present every morning at breakfast. A rare level of service, an unforgettable experience. 10/10, no hesitation!

Our stay here was an absolute pleasure from the welcome at the steps by Jeremy who knew our names to checking in by Diletea. The room was very luxurious. Breakfast was scrumptious and Lorenzo Caiazzo was very attentive. Elena Nicoli made checkout a breeze and was very helpful.

We were on a family driving vacation through Tuscany and stayed here somewhat as an afterthought. Turns out this was perhaps the gem hotel of our entire vacation. We always stay at 5 star hotels so we are accustomed to nice properties and good service, but this place is legitimately a 6 star resort. The property is lovely and well located across the street from the oceanside boardwalk. The room was lovely and generous in size. The staff was simply fabulous from the bellman, to front desk, to restaurants. The breakfast buffet lives up to its reputation as the best breakfast in Italy - it is simply jaw dropping. We very much appreciated the heated outdoor pool, beautifully located on the rooftop, so we watched the sun set in heated comfort - this was a highlight for our teenage son, as it was the only outdoor pool that was open during our two weeks in Italy. For the average US traveler looking to see the big sites of Rome, Florence and Tuscany, it would be easy to overlook a side trip to the coast and a visit to this hotel. It's well worth the effort with a very luxurious and impressive hotel, a beautiful beachside location, and a locals vibe (we saw very few tourists in March).
