Reviews for Grand Hotel Wien

The best of Vienna

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

OK....erase all the previous reviews that you have read....this is the REAL SCOOP..... This is a great hotel in Vienna and you should stay here....ok....the details.... CHECK IN/LOBBY: Very nice entrance and front desk staff is very friendly and helpful.. Room was not ready until 2 pm, not unexpected....easy luggage storage..... THE ROOM: Had a very nice room that was large, plenty of shelves/storage space and an easy to use safe....bed is firm and comfortable....bathroom is large with a 2 basin sink.... separate room for toilet....shower is large and comfortable....VERY quiet also... BREAKFAST: A GREAT breakfast....very nice room and large buffet...cereal, breads, cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit, smoked fish, pretzels!....you can also order omelets, other egg dishes and bacon or sausage....also can order pancakes and french toast!!...a clear highlite of the stay.... LOCATION: This is a real plus..perfect location...about 1-2 min to opera house and can walk to most museums...right next to coffeehouses and restaurants...important things to me....a newstand 1-2 min way....a BANK ATM(never use a isolated ATM machine in the middle of a street....high fees and bad exchange rate) 2 min away....a small supermarket 3 min away(good for a yogurt or fruit for lunch!)....about one min from a large subway hub that is easy to use and safe and clean and run frequently.... In summary, this is an old world beautiful hotel that treats the clientele quite well.... Rooms and bathrooms are large and quite comfortable.... Fantastic location....also, taxis always right in front and easy spot for Uber.... Stay here!!!

Bedbugs!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Spent 2 nites here first nite our adult daughter in adjacent room awoke to a bite on her finger Turned on lite to see bedbug on her pillow Took photo of bedbug and Called desk They did not change her room, only changed her sheets- useless against bedbugs She spent nite in bathtub with pillows and comforter In the morning showed photo to reception They denied it was a bedbug saying it was too big She had blown up the photo to show comparison with online photo When she showed them the original photo which was identical in size and all features to photo online they still denied Refused to compensate her because room booked thru tour company Did change her room to the room next door Ineffective as bedbugs move easily room to room she spent second nite in bathtub as well She is a reasonable person, a well informed, experienced medical professional with experience with bedbugs. We understand even the best hotels can get bedbugs Our issue is with their poor response.

Worst experience ever

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Honestly one of the worsts experiences I’ve ever had - and I work in tourism. I arrived late on my first day and discover that 1 of the 2 black outs in the windows of my room wasn’t working (the one in front of my face). I called to see if they could change me to another room or fix it and they only had 1 twin bed room from a different category (lower) so I said I understand, it’s ok, please just fix it tomorrow. Also, the AC sounded like an actual tractor (hear the video) and the general button for the electricity in the room turned off without touching it. The second day I went down and told them about these 3 problems (I couldn’t sleep of course), they apologized and said that the technician would fixing it this morning (black out, AC and the automatic button of the energy in the room - the lady even said some other guests complained about this last issue). I returned in the evening to the hotel, arrive to my room and it wasn’t fixed. Called the reception again to ask if the technician gave them an update and they said no, that he was super busy and he couldn’t give an update if it was fixed. Not only that, now the 2nd blackout wasn’t working (not only the one in my face). Next day I wake up at 6 am from the light (2nd night out of my 3 nights here) and go again to the reception. They moved me to a suite for my last night and I asked them to PLEASE check if this room (suite or no suite I couldn’t care less) has a working black out - I arrived late at night and not only the black out didn’t work (and the curtains didn’t close completely), but while I was in the shower the general button for the electricity disconnected again (like in the first room) and I had to leave the shower in complete darkness outside to turn it on. I cut my finger and hit my toes with the metal holder of the door. Honestly very very dangerous. The worst thing about this last room, and it’s honestly now the story is sad and funny, the lamp of one of the bedside tables couldn’t be turned off, and it wasn’t possible to disconnect it as it was sticked to the wall. Summary of my stay: couldn’t sleep 3 out of 3 nights - first 2 with the tractor sound of the AC and no black outs / and the last one without a black out and the lamp on, the breakfast came wrong every single day, staff wasn’t very helpful (except for a Manager named Vanessa that was shocked with my experience and tried to help), and I paid more than $500 per night. Do NOT stay here. Ps. I can’t add the videos from the lamp and AC sound and black outs.

Glad for recommendation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

To be honest there are loads of five star hotels in Vienna. But this one was suggested (strongly) as the best…… it is amazing. From checkin to the rooms food etc everything was amazing. We have friends that stay from UK all the time who said it’s THE place to be. Never been to Vienna before but thought it sounded ideal. Learned loads about the history of the City and some great museums etc within easy walking distance. Was also persuaded to try opera for 1st time and loved it, which was a pleasant surprise. Nice to have drinks in bar after too. The hotel is beautiful, loved the piano bar, staff all great very helpful and breakfast lovely. Friends are “Mozart” and “culture” fans so we knew where to visit, learned loads. Great recommendation and glad we chose this place rather than other hotels, couldn’t fault it and would defo return.
