Reviews for Grand Hotel Wien

A beautiful and, yes, grand hotel in a great location

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel Wien. In a nutshell, it's a beautiful hotel in a very central location on the Ring, 5 minutes ' walk from the opera house, 10 minutes from the cathedral square. The rooms are big and very comfortable, the staff are all helpful and professional. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there. Some of the big hotel chains (I'm looking at you, Fairmont) could learn a thing or two from this really lovely hotel. Next time we're in Vienna, we will make another booking at the Grand.

We had a wonderful experience at Grand Hotel Wien. The service, location, accommodation and the amenities were excellent. It is close to Old Town, the Opera, museums and the Rathausplatz Square. Our host at the hotel, Dimitar Kochoski was fantastic. He was polite, helpful, knowledgeable and went beyond duties to make our stay just right. He spent time to understand what type of experience we were looking for and recommended sites to visit & things to do accordingly. We felt very welcomed and will come back again.

A Grand experience

First visit to Vienna and chose this hotel to make it special, and the hotel didn’t disappoint. Location is great - easy walking to city centre or the trams/underground are only a few yards away. Room was lovely, with high ceilings, a 3pin plug socket (!) and was very quiet: no outside or internal noise at all (note: TV only has Sky/BBC news for uk viewers). The room was also very clean. Staff were all very warm and friendly when we were there (thank you front desk) and the breakfast staff were very efficient (and the breakfast offer is vast and excellent!). Vienna is a lovely city; beautiful buildings, lovely food (Das Kai is an excellent Chinese restaurant), and plenty of good shops. English is spoken in most shops/cafes etc - though much less if you venture to the suburbs. We loved the city, and our stay at this hotel. We have already planned a future return to both.

Hotel did not live up to it's Hype

The hotel location was convenient, but unfortunately, the rest of our stay was very disappointing. When we checked in, the front desk clerk enthusiastically recommended the Terrace Lounge for its beautiful views. When we went up, we discovered it had been closed for the entire month of August — information we would have appreciated at check-in. Although we were upgraded to a suite, the room was extremely dated, and all of the outlets were in use. We had to unplug a lamp just to charge our phones. We then tried to use the spa facilities, but the man at the desk was abrupt and clearly unhappy when we said we did not want a massage and only wanted to use the sauna and steam room. Once inside, we found that neither had even been heated, despite being there during operational hours. When we asked, he told us the hotel was supposed to ensure they were ready — clearly, this was not the case. Back in our room, we turned on the TV only to find just two English channels (both news), while there were more than eight Arabic channels. Very disappointing and not what we would expect from a hotel at this level.

Service was Poor and The Quality of Food Worse

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Grand Hotel Wien was on the way to see the Mozart Concert . Allured by Michelin star, we stopped by for a drink and quick bite. The menu was limited , which gave me a slight expectation that the food is exceptional . My party of four ordered four different dishes. the overall presentation of the food was already questionable but we gave it a chance. I ordered what I thought to be a safe choice; a medium rare burger. My bun was so hard that it was impossible to bite or to cut, ( frozen in the middle ) as I spoke to the manager to see if there were any other options (as I am a bit frustrated) he looked confused as why am I bothering him. without further inquiry , after 30 minutes he brought me another bun and expected me to make myself a burger (I guess?!), never asked me what’s wrong with the food. once again, I called him as to make a in resolve what was left of the situation (another menu or drink option), the manager was unable to provide any resolve. Once I took care of my bill, I received no apology except condescending statements (such as “sure” of “yea… right”) and it was only after 15 minutes of conversation of the quality of the poorly made burger, that burger will be taken off my bill. It is mind blowing considering the Michelin star of what was happening. I will never eat there again and I will contact Michelin to check their status going foward. my message is this, Stay Away from Grand Hotel Wien!!!
