It was okay for the value

Location is nice, the atmosphere is okay. The rooms need updating specially in the bathrooms, the tubs have a lot of rust. The AC in rooms and across the resort don’t really work. The view was not great as mine looked into a bush. The resort overall is clean. The staff are friendly and helpful for the most part. I’d recommend the resort invest in fans on the ceiling in the lobby for circulation specially on extreme hot days. Even restaurants need ac or some form of cooling system as it’s really hot guests can’t enjoy there meal and food goes bad.

Very dissapointed

I was just at the MLD and it was my 6th time there, I love this hotel but this time it wasn't the greatest. The only fun we had was at the pool, there wasn't much entertainment in the evening and just extremely loud, we couldn't even talk.the dancers weren't there, no fashion show nothing. There was alot of cuban families that just have no respect, they cut in line at the buffet they leave their dirty cups all around the pool. As I said I love this place but this trip has left me wondering if it's not time to move on.

It was awesome trip

It was our first time vacation in June at - Cayo Santa Maria and we chose Melia las Dunas . Our room was fantastic. We were amazed by the customer service and the lush green landscapes around the resort. The beach was stunning and we got to see a lot of fish and we also got to snorkel. There is a lot of walking on the beach to the left and to the right and the colour of the ocean is fantastic . The resort is well maintained and the food was great. If we had any needs, we got prompt help. In a nutshell, you will not be disappointed if you love lush green landscapes, beautiful beaches and we look forward to come here again. It is our first time in Cayo Santa Maria and we like the quiet and family vibes we received here. We have been exceptionally happy and we look forward to come again.

Stunning Beach & Lovely Atmosphere, But Be Prepared for Some Downsides

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We stayed at Meliá Las Dunas knowing the current situation in Cuba and kept our expectations realistic. Overall, we had a nice stay, but there are important things future travelers should be aware of. We visited during low season on a good deal for 6 days, looking for a relaxing getaway—and for the price, you get what you pay for. The beach was absolutely beautiful—soft white sand, clear turquoise water, and plenty of shade. Staff were helpful with setting up chairs and keeping the area tidy, though some loungers are broken and in need of replacement. The resort grounds are very lush with greenery and trees, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. The food was as expected for Cuba—repetitive but not bland, and we always found something to eat. The mangoes this time of year were excellent. The à la cartes offered a nicer presentation, though quite similar to the buffet. Drinks and coffee were consistently good. The only drawback was the presence of birds and bugs in the buffet and dining areas, which did take away from the experience. The resort does show its age and needs more maintenance, though we did see work being done. The pool was cleaned daily and was clear, it did need som TLC as there was some tiles missing. Our room was clean on arrival with strong A/C and warm water in the shower, but towels and sheets were only changed upon request, and some were stained. We also encountered critters such as lizards and flies and cockroaches inside and around the accommodations, which made us feel uneasy at times. Service was mixed. We met some lovely staff, with a special shoutout to Jenny in the buffet who was always friendly and helpful. However, overall service wasn’t extravagant. At times it felt inattentive, and we often felt pressured by waiters to sit in their sections, which was uncomfortable. We also noticed Spanish-speaking travelers seemed to receive more attentive service, which left us feeling overlooked. The lobby was a highlight—a great place to enjoy a drink and cigar with a full bar and good service. Evening entertainment was enjoyable, with live music, dancers, or shows most nights, which added to the atmosphere. Tips: CAD cash is not accepted at the spa or official shops—you’ll need USD or a card. We were genuinely surprised by this. Overall: If you come for the beach, lush surroundings, and relaxation, you’ll enjoy your time here. Just keep expectations realistic: the resort is dated, food is repetitive, and service can be hit or miss. If you are looking for a cheap stay, and with the right mindset, it can still be a good stay.
