Borgo Pignano is an elegant country estate in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, just a short drive from the historic, hilltop towns of Volterra and San Gimignano. A member of National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World, the 750-acre organic estate blends a working farm with a world-class resort experience and also acts as an ideal base for exploring Florence, Siena or the vineyards of Chianti nearby. The former 18th century villa and hamlet dating from Etruscan times has been sensitively restored to capture the soul of Tuscany through its architecture, culinary and wellness traditions; with a contemporary twist.

The grounds are gorgeous and deliver such an elegant relaxed experience. The service is impeccable in every way. The rooms are beautiful and the beds gave way to remarkably sound nights’ sleep. The views are breathtaking and honestly hard to leave. The pool was excellent. We had massages that were fantastic. And Gigi gave us the most charming inside view of the whole estate. As he would say, “everything is fantastic, so happy!”

Sublime. I could stop there but I want to give the Pignano team all the credit I can convey. Upon arrival, my wife and I chose to take a tour of the place and were delighted to be guided by a wonderful gentleman called Gigi. His care, gentle manner and deep passion for both the region and the Borgo set the tone for the rest of our stay and lent a certain magic to the whole experience. He explained, with enthusiasm, the Borgo team’s positive impact on the area and some of its future plans. He showed us around the organic vegetable garden, introduced us to some of the farm and native wildlife and his final kind gesture was to go out to the organic vegetable garden and to hand pick and tie a little bunch of lavender flowers for our children, as we were checking out. I am a fairly seasoned traveller and have stayed in more than my fair share of luxury hotels across the globe and whilst all have their particular charms I don’t recall ever feeling quite so relaxed as I did at the Borgo Pignano. Quintessentially Tuscan, the vibe is effortless luxury without pretence. The staff are conscientious and delightful to engage with, without exception. The food is outstanding and almost entirely sourced from the estate (all organic). The setting is out of this world. The lawns, pool, restaurants, etc all overlook the beautiful countryside - like an ever-changing Renaissance masterpiece, the colours evolve throughout the day, arrive at the most beautiful sunset crescendos and continue on into deep inky blackness, as the stars appear. But I don’t want to sell you on Tuscany. I want to assure you that the Borgo Pignano is the most wonderful place to relax. It is clearly extremely well managed. Everything is thought of. Everything is done to the most wonderful standard and everything happens in good time with zero rush. Perhaps one of the most striking things is the quiet. It’s so peaceful. Nothing artificial. Nothing superficial. The Pignano team let nature and culture do the talking and we can’t wait to go back!

We spent just 3 nights and 4 days at Borgo Pignano mainly as we were attending Andrea Bocelli's annual charity concert, nearby. My wife and I could not speak more highly of the hotel, all the staff, the accommodation, and of course the food. With such a short trip, we did very little. Other than my wife riding one morning, our days were spent relaxing, swimming and looking forward to our next stroll, or meal. The atmosphere that prevails throughout the hotel, is one of sophistication and elegant style, yet relaxed. Our mind, body and soul all smiled with gratitude, for being so well treated. I have no complaints, other than we would like to have stayed a great deal longer !!!! If we are lucky enough... we will be back. Thank you to everyone at Borgo Pignano.

Although Tuscany has many picturesque places, Borgo Pignano has to be among the top of the list! What beautiful grounds, views, amenities, and friendlyand helpful staff! From the time you check in which is a casual seat out in their lush front garden to the time you leave youare treated like royalty! We had a special trip around the property via golf cart with Gigi, who was absolutely magnificent in explaining all of the different areas of the 800 acre plus property!
