Reviews for Fairmont Kea Lani Maui

Some good points...some bad points. But it all works out.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I just spent a solo birthday trip at the Fairmont Kea Lani. Having also stayed at the Andaz and Four Seasons in Wailea, I would say that this hotel ranks below the Four Seasons (as expected) but above the Andaz. Good points: 1. The room and balcony were very large. I could see the ocean from my partial ocean view quite easily. A/C worked well (once I got them to take the block off so it would go below 70 degrees), everything was clean. Bed was very firm; however, that might be a plus to some. 2. Housekeeping - these ladies were ON IT! I loved having my room cleaned early in the day while I was out and about. Anything extra that I requested was no problem. Turn down service every evening as well - very nice. This was a much better situation than even the Four Seasons. 3. Self-parking available and included with the resort fee. Saved lots of $$ on valet. 4. Breakfast buffet had a good selection - omelet bar, fresh fruit, good pastries. 5. Nick's Fishmarket - on site; had a delicious dinner here, with great service. Good cocktails. Wish I could have gotten a chair at the bar at happy hour (I tried all week to no avail). Bad points: 1. Adult pool - it was fine on the weekend, but once the construction at Ko started on Monday, there went the tranquility. It was also impossible to get a chair on the pool deck unless you were out there by 7am. There was no waitlist like at the FS, so you couldn't be notified when/if a seat opened up. I think I just got lucky on Saturday...The restaurant and birds (and therefore, bird poop on nearby chairs and umbrellas) overlooking the adult pool also took away from the expected serenity of the adult pool. 2. A late checkout (I'm talking a few hours, not 8-9) wasn't available, so I had to pay for an extra night or be kicked out at 11am. Whatever - I knew going in that this was a possibility. 3. The birds at breakfast. Workers did their best, and there are birds at all of the hotels, but they seemed worse here. The food covers that they provided didn't always work. I saw one bird pick the wicker cover up with its beak. They know what they are doing. 4. The beach (Polo Beach), while still very nice, seemed to have a stronger shore break than at the other Wailea beaches. It's possible this was because of the hurricane passing nearby. Overall, I'd give it 4.5 stars if that was an option. Be prepared for lots of children as well (even more than FS; way more than at the Andaz). I'd return if I got a good rate, and I'd probably try to book with a partner (Amex or other preferred travel partner) that could get a guaranteed late checkout.

Outstanding 30th Anniversary!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

My wife and I spent our 30 Anniversary at the same location we honeymooned 3 decades ago. Wailea and The Fairmont Kea Lani were TOP NOTCH with service, beauty/beach and food. First, the beach staff was some of the best I have ever worked with and special thank you to the squad of Jordan, Rodney, Cyrus, Randall, Jamie and Will! This team is at the top of their game and always smiling in a positive attitude to assist. They had me set up 6 days in a row front row while still allowing me to get our 60 minute run in each morning. The Breakfast buffet was sensational and held us over to dinner each day. Austin lined us up with a great dinner at Pilina our last night with a killer roll and Wagyu Hot Rocks. Room service team was first class too! I couldn’t ask for a better time in Maui and highly recommended one choices the Fairmount. The Costco pricing has some wonderful extras attached to the reservation. Mahalo Team and Bravo!!

Absolutely wonderful hotel experience with amazing service, great setting, and large, comfortable, modern rooms.

This is truly one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed at. Every single thing about it was perfect. The service was unbelievable. The room was large, comfortable, and modern. The pools and beach were footsteps away from our room and were terrific. I want to give her a particular shout out to the concierge, staff and to Tara for helping us with some very specific requirements. They made us feel both pampered and at home. They greeted every one of our requests with a smile and prompt service. The vibe is both luxury and relaxed. There was cold water, conveniently available all over the resort, and sunscreen as well. It was easy to get chairs at the beach and pool. We could not have been any more impressed.

Picked Fairmont for the size of accommodations and really enjoyed everything else

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Stayed in one of the Villas as a family of four and had a terrific time. What a treat. The staff are amazing and the location is just beautiful. I would pick the Fairmont over the other places in Wailea because of the size of the rooms. We saw a regular suite as well and it was also very large, though with two teens we were happy for the space of the villa. Got a good rate with Amex FHR. I was worried about a couple things based on other reviews: Lounge chair availability, did not find this to be a problem. It was late August so maybe the place was not as crowded, but it definitely was not empty. There was always four beds with umbrellas available at the beach (where we preferred being). The beach guys were really cool, never in our face, and generally let us know when better seats became available. Thank you. The upper pool area was busier for sure, and lots of the space is dedicated to cabanas. But lower pool was more quiet and had space. Beach bar guys were awesome. We would come here to get drinks and bites to take down to the beach. I was also wary of billing errors and found this to not at all be the case. I checked mid-stay with front desk and again at check-out, and all was spot-on. Concierge team was good and helped us book a snorkeling tour via text. Very grateful for that. Only comments we would make is that some of the beach loungers could use replacement, and I wish that SUP and other beach activities were included. There is a nice vendor operating these services (billed to the room) so options were great, but I wish some were included like at the Andaz. Also, $9/hr for the beach services boogie boards felt like nickel and diming. Food and drinks at Pilina were excellent. Very nice vibe. Included breakfast was good, and servers always made a point of saying all was included. Looking forward to returning!!!!

We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani Maui for and had a wonderful time. Most importantly, even above the great room, excellent service and delicious food, was that our seven-year-old son had the most fun. Many thanks for another wonderful vacation!
