From the moment we arrived at Wharekauhau Country Estate, we were blown away. The service was hands-down the best we’ve ever experienced — every staff member was incredibly friendly, welcoming, caring, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us feel special. It genuinely felt like we were the only guests there, and everything ran seamlessly. The estate itself is stunning — luxurious, serene, and immaculately maintained. Our cottage was perfection (the pillows were the fluffiest I’ve ever felt!), and every little detail had been thoughtfully considered. We took part in some amazing activities during our stay — clay shooting was so much fun, the full-body massages were absolute bliss, and the ATV tour was an exhilarating way to explore the breathtaking landscape. Every experience exceeded our expectations. It honestly felt like we were living in a movie — completely unreal in the best possible way. This was more than just a getaway — it was an experience we’ll remember forever. Wharekauhau truly sets the standard for luxury and hospitality. We can’t wait to come back.

The staff here are beyond fantastic, that is really what sets this place a cut above the rest. As soon as we walked in we were made to feel special by Irma - almost like family returning home. Richard the GM came to introduce himself and made us feel very welcome, we thoroughly appreciated his time. Nicolas in the dining was exceptional- with his knowledge and passion for wines so infectious - he really made our experience so memorable- rare to find people that give this level of service nowadays. All food and beverages were 10/10. Stunning location - stunning rooms and impeccable service. We hope to stay again.

I once had a travel agent tell me, "some properties just transcend ratings". Until Wharekauhau I didn't really believe that. From start to finish the property and staff are deserving of high praise and flawless review. People always make the resort and each and every member of the small staff worked tirelessly to ensure the three of us had the best possible experience and we did. Go meet these professionals yourself in the superbly designed and maintained estate. You will not go wrong. We are looking forward to our next visit.

This is a beautiful hotel with a beautiful swimming pool but both need a little refurbishing. The property is beautiful and the rooms are comfortable. My biggest disappointment was the food which was almost inedible. Poorly displayed and terrible to taste.

We visited Wharekauhau, a 5,000-acre sheep ranch/luxury resort on the southern coast of New Zealand, in November, 2004. It is without a doubt the finest place we have visited in any country or any state. The lodging was six-star, the surroundings were beautiful and breathtaking, and the service, meals and wines as good as anywhere on the planet. I highly recommend it. We will definitely go back.
