Reviews for The Hay-Adams

A wonderful hotel and a great experience.

The Hay-Adams is one of my favorite hotels in the world. I stay there whenever I come to DC to visit family, because it’s elegant, charming, and the staff is lovely. I also really enjoy the Lafayette Room. Breakfast -or any meal -in that elegant room is a treat. It’s also thrilling being so close to the White House.

Stunning hotel

My husband and I planned a trip to America for my 60 th birthday and after reading an article about The Hay Adams , we decided to book. To say I was totally overwhelmed when we arrived, would be true . It was a total dream to walk in and stay for four nights . The staff are exceptional, every single person we met . Everyone is so helpful , cheerful and friendly. We booked a room opposite St John’s church , whilst I was disappointed it was covered in scaffolding, the area was certainly appealing. Our room was stunning and kept beautifully clean by the lovely housekeeping staff . Everything was top quality . We slept so well , fantastic blackout curtains. We had lovely chocolates left in the room in the shape of the White House, such a treat . The only downside is the cost of the bar and the restaurant, unfortunately we couldn’t afford to eat there . Also we were charged for a kettle and tea bags in the room , which I requested . Coffee lovers were very well looked after but not tea drinkers . I would like to say Thank you to Grace on reception. A credit to the hotel. I arrived so overwhelmed, was tearful and again when leaving as I had enjoyed the experience so much. Grace was so professional and friendly . Staying at The Hay Adams was an incredible experience and such a treat for my birthday.

Perfect Romantic get away!

We have been married 42 years but if I could have picked out a honeymoon spot this would have been it. We were pampered from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The staff is outstanding and paid attention to every detail to make our stay wonderful. We had breakfast in our room our first morning and it was outstanding. The restaurant was incredible. The food and service were outstanding AND the piano music was so relaxing after busy days of travel and sightseeing. We wish you were not 3000 miles away. If We could give this establishment 10 starts we would. Added Bonus-all the Mother's Day greetings I was given and the yummy cookies I was given as a Mother's day gift just as we were leaving the hotel. You will not find a better place to stay in DC

A hidden gem

Having walked for ages around the sights we found ourselves outside the Hay Adams. We popped inside for some refreshments and we were invited into the formal dining room even though we just wanted a tea! The lady at the restaurant reception was absolutely charming. We didn't get her name but it was about 5 pm on Friday 10th May. We were served Earl Grey tea on Bone China cups and saucers in this elegant restaurant overlooking the White House . Next time were in Washington DC we will stay at the Hay Adams and have dinner in your beautiful dining room.

The White House

1 night stay. This really is the perfect location if you want to see The White House. It’s right across the street. Literally. It’s unbelievable how close it is. The room was lovely. Small but a perfect size for the length of stay. Breakfast was also nice but this is where the negatives begin to creep in unfortunately. One issue I have experienced across America, no matter where I eat is that the bill is being brought when you are still eating. This occurred at breakfast and as I said in one of my previous reviews, it says nothing more than ‘get out.’ A shame. I didn’t think much of the downstairs bar. It’s loud and is in need of a revamp, honestly. When we returned from the bar, the sofa bed was also not made up. Despite this being requested on booking, on check in and just a few hours prior. When we called down, there was no apology whatsoever from who I assume was the Night Manager. He just said, “I’ll have to do it.” An attitude that wasn’t appreciated. On check out, the bellhop literally came into the room and watched our every move during last minute packing and checking of the room. This is totally unheard of, as far as I’m concerned and added to the stress. This same bellhop waited for a tip downstairs in a very awkward fashion. He was given one, however, when our car arrived some hours later, he waited for another tip, again, in a very awkward fashion. Disgusting. Really let the place down.
