To step inside our soaring entrance is to become a part of the past, present, and future of the Penn Quarter. Constructed in 1891 as a headquarters for Riggs National Bank, the landmark example of Richardson Romanesque architecture was known as the Bank of Presidents, and resides at the intersection not just of 9th and F Street, but of American history.

The Riggs is the quintessential hotel of hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the doormen assisted us to the front desk, where, miraculously, our room was ready for us. The room was spotless throughout our entire stay. The lobby bar and restaurant served beautifully crafted drinks and the breakfasts were thoughtfully prepared and served. Many features make this an exceptional hotel, the location, the beauty, and the excellent people. We cannot thank you enough for helping us celebrate the new year.

We had a wonderful two-day stay at Hotel Riggs in Washington, DC, and cannot say enough great things about this property. The service was exceptional, the rooms were impeccable, the neighborhood is close to DC's main attractions, and every detail felt thoughtful and refined. We especially appreciated the well-designed breakfast menu for guests using the American Express Hotel Collection complimentary breakfast benefit — it was generous, delicious, and perfectly executed. The hotel’s restaurant deserves special mention as well: beautifully designed, romantic, and absolutely delicious for dinner. It made for a memorable evening without even needing to leave the hotel. Overall, Hotel Riggs exceeded our expectations in every way. A truly outstanding stay, and we look forward to returning.

We just returned from a two night stay over New Year’s. From the moment we pulled up to valet parking to the moment we checked out, our experience was nothing short of amazing. We stayed in a galley suite which was gorgeous. The bed was comfortable, the living/dining area was spacious, and robes and slippers felt glorious. Every request we made was responded to within minutes with the most pleasant staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. The food at Cafe Riggs was amazing. I don’t know what they do to the scrambled eggs, but they were the best I have ever eaten. My children can’t stop talking about the house made ice cream. The location was so convenient to walking to various museums and the Mall. We can’t wait to return! Highly recommend staying at The Riggs. .

Beautiful place and a great location for visiting the sites. Everyone was attentive and friendly, especially Garnett Coad. He took great care of us.

Beautiful hotel. Garnett Coad or “Mr DC” was so very helpful and accommodating. Dinner in the restaurant was special. Old fashioned elegance at its best.
