To step inside our soaring entrance is to become a part of the past, present, and future of the Penn Quarter. Constructed in 1891 as a headquarters for Riggs National Bank, the landmark example of Richardson Romanesque architecture was known as the Bank of Presidents, and resides at the intersection not just of 9th and F Street, but of American history.

My wife and I have stayed at the Riggs Hotel, Washington D.C. twice; the last time for two nights from January 15th to 17th, 2026. Thanks to its excellent location, the hotel provides easy access to major attractions, restaurants, cafes, and shops. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, which is undoubtedly very convenient, and the rooms are quiet, comfortable, and clean, with a magnificent design and sufficiently good amenities, including bathrobes and slippers. What impressed us most about our stay at the Riggs was the hospitality and service. The staff, from the doorman to the waiters, provided friendly and welcoming service, surrounding us with care the entire time. We never had to open doors ourselves or carry our suitcases and bags. We would like to specifically and with great gratitude mention the waitress from the bar on the ground floor named Melody – a true professional and absolutely in her element. She is very knowledgeable about the bar's menu, works very quickly, and is always smiling and friendly. My wife and I are not very knowledgeable about cocktails, so we asked Melody to choose drinks for us based on our tastes and preferences. She patiently listened to us and instantly selected the necessary cocktails and appetizers with genuinely positive emotions and a smile, and the result always exceeded our expectations. It is employees like her that make a hotel truly memorable. We express our immense gratitude to all the hotel staff for their care, attention, and high level of service. Thanks to this attitude, we want to return to this hotel again.

Fantastic location for any event at Capital One Arena as well as just about anything in DC. The service was amazing! Everyone I encountered was very pleasant and helpful. "Mr DC" - the gentlemen that helped us with our bags - was outstanding. About 30 minutes after we got there I received a knock on my door and we were given tarts and water bottles. I am not sure what I did to receive that, but what a great touch. In the past, I have used a different hotel for my travels to DC, not any more, I have found a new home.

I did stay vacation at Riggs and it was fine. I would never return. Check in staff were friendly. I immediately noticed how dirty the carpet was at the front desk. Elevators are slow and I think one wasn’t working, which made for an unpleasant wait. The room, though pretty, was tiny. It had a shower/tub combo, which I did not realize was still a thing these days. I normally do not stay in rooms with that combination. Function seemed not to be a concern during room design. The toilet paper holder was at an uncomfortable level. The glass shelf in the shower was at shoulder level, which was very concerning. The towel ring was stuffed next to the sink. These items all could have been placed in better areas. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The mini bar was stocked with fun items, though we did not partake. Climate control does not go below 67 Fahrenheit. We called the front desk to ask, and they did not know that so they sent an engineer to our room. The engineer told us. Unthinkable that the front desk would not have that information. Sleeping was miserable for me and I cannot imagine staying here in a DC summer. We had a late checkout, but the key card stopped working at noon and needed to be re-keyed. I was absolutely floored by this because this does not happen to other hotels. Riggs is in a great location, but it’s only masquerading as luxury.

I stayed at Riggs Washington DC for my birthday, and it was truly the most beautiful and unforgettable hotel experience of my life. From the moment I arrived, the service was absolutely perfect. The staff surprised me with a wonderful room and a complimentary bottle of champagne as a birthday gift, which made me feel so special and appreciated. The hotel itself is stunning — elegant, stylish, and full of character. It is easily the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. Every detail was thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and luxurious. I have stayed in many hotels in different cities and countries, but this was by far the best experience. The level of care, kindness, and professionalism from the staff was exceptional. Everything felt effortless and perfect. This was not just a hotel stay — it was a truly magical experience. Thank you for making my birthday so special. I will definitely return and highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Friendly reception. Great location and service. Bed was comfortable and heating worked well. Caffe was open late for good and drinks which was a big help for a late arrival. Close to restaurants, metro and the national portrait gallery and American art museum (the contemporary gallery is amazing)! First time here but will likely come back
