In need of a major update

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This Ritz Carlton is a staple in the West End. I have frequented this hotel for decades; however, it appears to not have had an update besides the restaurants. The rooms are quite dated and not fitting of the Ritz Carlton brand. The lounge is still popular but the furnishings are in need of replacement. Some of the seating is dirty, tattered and much too low for the average lounger. Despite the service, I will elect to stay at another Ritz Carlton in the future

Impressed by service, not so much the room.

PRO: Service was top notch. For anniversary celebration and platinum elite status, they gave me quiet high floor room on courtyard side. Room service did give a nice anniversary dessert which was great and wonderful for pictures! For the amount I paid (discounted rate) it was great. I don't think the non-discounted price would be worth it. Stay overall was very comfortable, walking distance to subway (9 or 14 minutes depending on the line). Was able to use complimentary umbrellas to use around town. Separate tub and walk in shower was nice touch, and wife enjoyed the hot water and water pressure. Wife especially enjoyed the complimentary chocolates. CON: Being a ritz, holding platinum elite status doesn't get much (i.e. no breakfast), wish the shower could have been just a tad larger as fitting 2 people in shower was a tight squeeze, sad that the gym cost extra, so I did not use gym (on the plus side other hotels probably would have just charged all guests a resort fee). Overall great experience, but I wouldn't come back at regular price.

Service only lasts as long as your stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Hotel was fantastic as long as you are physically staying on site. Once checked out, the prided gold standard Ritz Carlton service seems to disappear faster than a saharan raindrop. My wife stayed and forget her prescription eye glasses. Simple mistake that should be easy enough to get them back on a tight timeline from an organization that prides itself on service. They use the same outsourced vendor that a holiday inn does with zero personal touch or guarantee that the item can make it back by a deadline to leave for another trip. Screened calls by a manager, possible lies told about what would be done to resolve the issue, and zero follow through or follow up when it was promised. What was once the gold standard for service across the industry has become a joke in our experience. I've had similar lost item mistakes in the past and the hotel (Conrad in Midtown NYC) went the extra mile to ensure I got the item back ASAP. The Ritz has fallen to profitability over guest services which is difficult considering the rates they charge. Based on this experience, we will be using other accommodations in the future for both personal and business travel and suggest others do so as well. Certainly will NOT be a guest for life following this experience.

Love this hotel...

2nd time staying here. A favorite. Service impeccable, hotel design and decor beautiful and so welcoming, you feel like you are somewhere special. Staff ready for any needs. Close to Georgetown too--like a 10 minute walk. Connecting rooms are great.

Need new elevators

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Was just there for a business conference. All 3 days, 2 of the 3 elevators were down. Stairways are locked except for emergencies. Avoid this place till they fix the elevators. Probably need new ones.
