Reviews for The Royal Sonesta Washington DC, Dupont Circle

Great location, nice artsy ambience, slightly lacking in service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I went there with my child's last minute for a little staycation. Hotel is quite nice and I have been to its previous incarnations when it was owned by other companies. I was hoping for a little bit more service given that it's a higher-end hotel. However the rooms were great, the decor is very artistic and inventive and I liked the eclectic and artistic elements of the hotel. The great location close to Dupont Circle or if you want to walk into georgetown.

PCORI PEAP HOSTING HOTEL

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I would like to rate Ray and Shamar five stars for the wonderful hosting of each board meeting we have in DC. They both extend a very warm welcome to me upon my arrival and through out my entire stay. My company vote is to always select this hotel as our prefered property when ever our board will meet. Thank you to the entire Royal Sonest team and the outstanding job that both Ray and Shamar are doing. Mr. M. McNear

Worst stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. From the moment we checked in, we were "greeted" by a very grumpy lady who was obvious that she hated her job and was annoyed that we had an issue with our room. Our reservation was for a room with two queen beds which was not honored. We ended up with a room with one bed and a very uncomfortable roll-away bed with a very thin mattress wrapped in plastic that smelled like urine! We tried to book other hotels but everything in that area was sold out so we had no choice but to endure the uncomfortable stay in a very dated, smelly and noisy hotel room. When we checked in, we provided a credit card for incidentals which is a common practice and the charge is usually voided upon check out. Not in this case! To our surprise a $200 charge showed up on our credit card bill even though we had no incidental charges during our stay. After wasting long waits on the phone over several days on hold trying to resolve the charge, we were never able to speak to anyone. We are now disputing the charge with the credit card company. Do yourself a favor and avoid this horrible hotel.

Love the Sonesta!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I can recommend the Royal Sonesta on P Street! I was traveling solo last weekend, staying at this hotel. It used to be a great Palomar where I stayed many times. As a Sonesta it is also very well run and great as well. The front desk is extremely professional and accommodating. I love this hotel. The staff are all very nice. The location is perfect. Walking distance to Rock Creek Park, Georgetown, downtown, museums, DuPont Circle metro, and the boat basin. I had plans for all three dinners, Thursday through Sunday so was not able to try Certo for dinner. However, Certo is fantastic for breakfast. Will be returning in September when the pool is open and hope to try Certo for dinner.

Great stay in Washington DC

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Service was impeccable and staff was friendly. Thank you Maxwell for the check in. Room was spacious and spotless Location is fantastic too near Dupont Circle. CERTO restaurant is good for breakfast and dinner thanks to Aziz, Bony, Neils, Noises. The location was close to many restaurants and good coffee and tea shops. Will definitely stay there again and won’t bother looking anywhere else.
