We returned to the Salamander to celebrate our wedding anniversary, having been married there in 2023, and the experience was flawless from start to finish. Check-in was warm and effortless, valet was prompt and professional, and every team member we met carried the same calm confidence that makes this property stand out. The room was immaculate, beautifully prepared, and thoughtfully decorated for the occasion. In-room dining was excellent—fast service, perfect temperature, and high quality ingredients. The spa, fitness center, and on-site amenities were pristine and well maintained. Even checkout was handled with genuine care and attention. Every detail reminded us why this hotel holds such a special place in our lives. The staff’s hospitality and pride in their work make the Salamander one of the best destinations in the region for any milestone or quiet escape.

This 3-3.5 star review is specifically for the “city view” rooms. The hotel is the old Mandarin Oriental and has undergone a renovation. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed. So, this should be a 4-4.5 star review, EXCEPT… The Deluxe City View rooms do not have a view of the city at all. They look directly into another building and overlook a very active Amtrak train track. And when the train come barreling through, you hear and feel it! It’s almost 2 AM and a train just plowed through. In a city like DC, where the views are amazing - monuments, bridges, memorials all beautifully lit at night…any of that would be a city view. This is a train view. The description is misleading and the experience is disappointing. If you do visit, book a water view room. And, whatever you do, do not miss DŌGON! The food is so very amazing!

The hotel is excellent. Our room was very nicely furnished, clean, with a great bath and nice amenities. Some small maintenance issues were seen but overall quality was great. The entire staff was welcoming, friendly, and highly professional. The main issue here is the noise from the surrounding construction sites, which was relentless between 8am and 5pm.

I never review hotels but this was not the relaxing experience I had expected. Loud and constantly packed, minimal seating aside from by the pool and outside. Inaccurate menus and slow restaurant service. Just overall disappointed in my stay.

Loved my experience at the Salamander. The staff were so friendly from the moment the car door opened. The bellman helped me out of the car with such a friendly smile and helped with my bags. The hotel was great. It is in such a good location near the Wharf. The hotel is definitely 5 stars! I loved having a bathtub in my room, the room was extra spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Room service was delicious.

Not up to the standards of our stay at previously booked luxury link hotels. No in room coffee bar, no mini bar, blamed everything on Covid, and they were a new hotel, we would not stay there again. Definitely not 5 star, location good, no ice maker you had to call for it.
