Reviews for Salamander Washington DC

Classy, well-connected, and kind employees

We had a wonderful weekend at the Salamander. The hotel is very walkable to The Wharf and monuments, and the views, especially from the Bethune suite, were incredible. We really appreciated the attention and care from the staff, especially Eskedar, in making our stay memorable.

Not too clean is not for me!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

The Cons: This cannot be considered a luxury hotel. When you have luxury or 5 star hotel ratings you have to be clean. No exceptions. Everywhere I turned it was filthy. Behind the nightstand you can see the pile of dirt/dust or mold (not sure what it was). The bathroom door had multiple fingerprints of dirty hands. The lobby area had dirty floors with napkins on the floor, stains on the seats. The bathroom on the lobby floor was had scuffed up stall doors and I hardly had any toilet paper in my stall. The carpet it my room was worn out. Let's not even talk about the $86 parking overnight!! Insane. I'm not sure what this building was before the Salamander but you can tell it is not a fairly new building when you look close. It's more of a boutique hotel in size. The Pros: It was conveniently located and despite the uncleanliness and upkeep, the staff was friendly and helpful. Overall: I wouldn't stay again.

Wonderful Experience

The Salamander offers excellent service with lovely accommodations. The breakfast buffet is sufficient, but you can also order from the breakfast menu, which is excellent. The hotel offers a convenient footbridge to the wharf.

Home away from home!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

From the moment we were greeted at the curb with friendly, helpful and enthusiastic valet team members to the front desk and down to the spa -I felt like I was “home”! Eskede, Nicole, Charles, Pong at the bar, and the service team at Dogon were terrific. The only thing at Dogon was the music was a tad loud to carry on a conversation. Otherwise we shall be back!

Not up to the standards of our stay at previously booked luxury link hotels. No in room coffee bar, no mini bar, blamed everything on Covid, and they were a new hotel, we would not stay there again. Definitely not 5 star, location good, no ice maker you had to call for it.
