Nice, but quite a bit pricy for the service and product that you receive. I paid over $900 for what I would expect would be worth about $400 given the location and quality.

Top-Tier Luxury Hotel

Simply the best DC hotel experience, ever—from entrance with valet opening the door upon arrival, front desk, bar lounge, breakfast area, spa, Dōgon restaurant, and so on. My daughter and I had such an epic stay fitted for queens at this hotel. The room was spotless, cozy, with the most comfortable beds and soaking tub! The staff were incredibly friendly, very attentive, and happy with their role—going above and beyond. Just to name a few that deserve a gold star: Marcel, the manager, LaNesta, the front desk guest host, Elsa, the bar lounge server, Lisa, breakfast host, and Kiara in the spa—all outstanding. The hotel’s location was mainly selected for the Cherry Blossom/Tidal Basin weekend trip! Perfectly perfect. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to DC and highly recommend it to others. Top-tier luxury!

I'll go back as long as Mr. Gonzalo is on duty :)

Initially, we experienced several issues in the room—the remote control and phone were not working, and we were unable to turn the lights on and off properly. It was definitely frustrating at first. However, everything changed when Mr. Gonzalo Patino, the Front Desk Manager, stepped in. He handled the situation with exceptional professionalism. He listened carefully to all of my concerns and immediately took action. Without any delay, he personally accompanied me to the room, brought an engineer along, and ensured that all the issues were addressed promptly. What truly stood out was his follow-through. He checked in with us again the next morning to make sure everything was working perfectly and that we had no remaining concerns. Throughout the entire interaction, he remained calm, patient, and genuinely courteous—even when I wasn’t at my best initially. Because of Mr. Gonzalo’s outstanding service, my overall impression of the hotel turned around completely. Knowing that someone like him is part of the team gives me confidence that guests will be taken care of. I would definitely consider staying here again because I trust that he will make things right.

Poor food service

I have stayed at many five-star hotels in places such as Taiwan, Japan, and New York, and I can confidently say that this experience fell far below expectations. A hotel of this caliber should provide a seamless and enjoyable guest experience—not one that leaves guests feeling ignored and dissatisfied. I hope the management team takes this feedback seriously and makes improvements, particularly in service responsiveness, communication, and overall guest experience. Staff training in professionalism, attentiveness, and friendliness would also make a significant difference. This stay left a very negative impression, and I sincerely hope to see meaningful improvements in the future. I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my breakfast experience this morning at your hotel. I visited the restaurant with one adult (myself) and two children. However, I was incorrectly charged for two adults and two children. Fortunately, I reviewed the bill carefully and noticed the mistake before completing the payment. After bringing it to the staff’s attention, the charge was corrected. While I appreciate that the issue was ultimately resolved, I am concerned that such a basic error occurred in a five-star hotel. Accurate billing should be a standard expectation, especially in a property of this level. This situation caused unnecessary inconvenience and left me feeling disappointed with the overall experience. Despite this, I still chose to leave a gratuity, as I understand service staff work hard. However, I believe it is important to share this feedback so that similar issues can be avoided in the future. I hope the management will take this matter seriously and ensure better attention to detail moving forward.

Luxury DC experience in a great city location

I recently had a staycation at the Salamander and it was amazing! I booked through AMEX travel for the stay and booked the spa treatment online directly through the Salamander website. The spa experience was amazing - it is tucked away inside of the hotel and has two levels. I had an early week appointment in the morning and there weren’t many others in the shared spa areas which made for a very relaxing experience. I had the Zen body experience and throughly enjoyed. I also experienced the dry sauna and vitality pool which was very clean and relaxing. The staff frequently cleans the areas and removes towels, etc to keep the areas clean. It was easy to check in and the staff was courteous and honored my AMEX benefits which was nice. I stayed in a king bedroom with waterfront view (upgraded through my AMEX benefits) and the room was bright, airy, and clean. There is 24 hour room service and I ordered a late night pizza and it was delivered within 30 minutes. The water pressure in the bathroom was good in both the shower and tub and the water gets very hot (which I personally enjoy). I did also utilize the gym (new gym equipment and all the machines and accessories for various types of movement and activity) and indoor pool area. The only thing taking away from my experience was the amount of younger guests during my stay (which I know cannot be controlled) however lounging in the pool area was not as relaxing and during breakfast there were younger guests open mouthed coughing in the buffet line and touching the utensils so there were just some food items I did not feel comfortable eating. Overall I had a great stay and would definitely stay again, recommend for out of town guests, or to visit for the spa experience alone. Valet was $86 to park overnight as of 4/7 $$$

Not up to the standards of our stay at previously booked luxury link hotels. No in room coffee bar, no mini bar, blamed everything on Covid, and they were a new hotel, we would not stay there again. Definitely not 5 star, location good, no ice maker you had to call for it.
