Reviews for The Swag

A Hidden Gem, well worth the money!

I wasn't sure what to expect, since it was recommended over 15 years ago, but I was very pleasantly pleased. The "rustic" description is only accurate regarding the style of the buildings. The furnishings, linens, meals & accommodations were top notch. The staff was excellent.

Take a moment to get away from it all. Rest and relax in the most wonderful mountain setting adjacent to the Smoky Mountain National Park. You will not be disappointed. The owners have made significant, wonderful improvements on an already incredible retreat. The accommodations are lovely. The food is excellent. The reason to come again and again is the staff. I will be back!

Five STARS @ 5000' Elevation

As a well seasoned traveler we have stayed at many incredible resorts and hotels around the world. Our recent three night stay at The Swag was likely the most memorable get-a-way experience we've ever had. The property and its environment is drop dead gorgeous. The accommodations are luxurious while making you feel right at home in an old log cabin. The food, oh the food, was incredible. Each meal is included and while there were both standard and unique menu choices they were all very special in that they utilized local sources and reflected the season. But what put The Swag above the rest is the staff. From the moment you arrive at the greeting lodge until you must head back down the mountain EVERY member of the staff makes you feel like a VIP. The level of anticipation to what you might need, want or appreciate was very impressive. Due to the intimacy at The Swag the staff knows you by name and even though our time there was short, we developed meaningful relationships with the incredible team members of The Swag. Before leaving the property we booked our return trip and will be back many times in the future.

Silver Anniversary Celebration

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

My husband and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary Feb 28-March 2 at the Swag. We stayed in the Hemlock Cabin. Our first dates almost 30 years ago consisted of long hikes in the woods, eating picnic lunches and being surrounded by nature. Celebrating at The Swag was very sweet for us as it brought back so many of those early memories. (But this was MUCH fancier lol). We were no longer the poor college students. The food was amazing. The staff made everything effortless and welcoming. Everyone we met was wonderful. The early morning sunrises and warm fires at night. It was a relaxing (spa services), sauna, hiking, the quiet of the mornings trip! We never once saw any staff cleaning or making up rooms. We retuned to our room after breakfast and it was magically tidied with blinds opened, bed made, fresh towels and waters. After dinner, there was turn down service with a sweet treat, a small gift, firewood replenished and curtains drawn. The location was beautiful. Entering the gate at the bottom of the road gave the impression that we were leaving the "busy" behind. Not seeing our car (modestly parked out of our view for us) allowed us to forget the busy and embrace the day at hand. I did notice the quality of linens, upholstery, rugs, drapery....We felt pampered and comfortable. I would say this was a bit on the pricier end , but worth it for us for our celebration. We plan to return with our young adult children next year.
