Reviews for West Baden Springs Hotel

Beautiful resort, lacks expected conveniences

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

There is no questions is a beautiful resort, but the lack of modern reservation systems for activities is absolutely unacceptable. For many activities you have to call the Concierge, which has very limited hours. That is a process stuck in the 1970s. With some digging, I found out you can call the front desk, only to learn that the afternoon tea, which was one of our reasons for staying here, was already completely booked. I would have booked months ago if there had been online booking. Just as ridiculous if you want to reserve a bowling alley you have to go in person. While the historic building is amazing, antiquated reservation systems are frustrating. other things that are frustrating: - the paper they gave us list times for historical walking tours but do not say if reservations are needed, nor where the tour meets. - Sinclair’s restaurant was incrediblely disappointing. The couple at the table next to us were complaining of being there an hour and forty five minutes BEFORE DESSERT. We found the service to be slow, but the worst part was the noise. The place is ridiculously loud. There were a group of 6 well away from us that were loud and the sound invaded the entire room. In an elegant restaurant, you don’t expect it to sound like a sports bar. Our waiter lacked any knowledge of anything at all. He had no idea what steak cut was used in their steak au poivre, had no idea if a side could be substituted, no idea what teas they had, etc. Again, I would expect that at a diner but not here. We made it clear on our reservation that it was for our anniversary and that was never acknowledged. Again, the hotel is breathtaking. Our room is spacious. The bed and bedding are extremely comfortable. The cooling system works well, which is not always the case in hotels. The only issues with the room are the fact that the large windows let the noise from the atrium through, making it loud at times. Also, the wallpaper in the toilet are is beginning to peal - these are minor though. Overall the room is what you would expect. It’s everything else that is sub-par

Not good

I was extremely disappointed. The room itself was very loud the one night you could hear people running up and down the hallways and people banging. They also had a jazz band that played until midnight and I felt like it was in our room. To spend $1000 I would expect it to be a relaxing quiet room

Amazing Hospitality, Amazing and Unique Property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Amazing experience from start to finish. We had never been and I will say the hotel is much more extravagant and beautiful in person than shown online. The history, the culture of the hotel were truly that of a five star property. The hospitality and the staff were what truly ranked above and made our experience extra fantastic. Danielle Willis especially helped us plan and bring our trip to life and our 10 year anniversary was made extra special! We will definitely be returning and can’t wait to see the property in the different seasons. Grateful we discovered this place and would recommend for a couples or family trip!
