The Grand York

This is a grand beauty! The room was beautiful and quiet. The staff was both professional and friendly. We loved the proximity to the town center and the ability to walk to and from the train station.

I visit York quite often and hadn't been to The Grand before - will make it my top hotel now. Good value. Classy. Nice staff. Spacious room. And the restaurant for dinner was really first class.

The whole experience was fantastic. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean , the bed was very comfortable. The food was excellent. We stayed in the executive double room and will almost certainly be returning in the near future a faultless experience.

We stayed at The Grand for two nights in September for our 10th wedding anniversary. The staff were all very nice. The food at breakfast & service at breakfast was also to a high standard. Unfortunately the bathrooms in this hotel let it down. We were allocated a room on the top floor of the original building. The room looked okay on first appearance. A little dated but okay. We quickly released that the double bed was in fact two twins pushed together - resulting in a large wedge in the middle of the bed. The bathroom had cracked floor tiles, a cracked sink & a faulty bath plug. The major issue with the bathroom was the leaking shower. I had a short shower and almost flooded the bathroom. The pool of water on the floor was the shower was very large considering I’d had a two minute shower. It made the floor incredibly slippery and dangerous. When I raised my concerns with reception they were very quick to move us. We were moved to a suite on the floor below. This room was bigger & benefited from a couple of extra items in the fridge but the bathroom continued to be an issue. On our first night we could not get the extractor fan to go off in the bathroom. It was noisy and impacted our sleep. Reception promised to send maintenance although we never saw anyone and the extractor fan continued to buzz for the rest of our stay. Reception mentioned that it might stay on if the aircon was on but we turned it off in both rooms each time we entered and the noise from the fan continued. The main issue with this bathroom came on our second morning. While I was in the shower the plastic seal on the door went tumbling to the floor. I was mid shower & not touching it. The tiles were also in need of replacement and there were stains in and around the sink. There was also dust along the top of the door which is such an easy fix and something that shouldn’t be happening in a five star hotel. I would say the public areas are five star but the older rooms are worse than some three stars I’ve stayed in.

A huge thank you to The Grand, York for an unforgettable two days. From the warm welcome to the outstanding service, food, and hospitality, every detail was exceptional. I left inspired by your culture and the care shown by every member of the team. The rooms are spotlessly clean.
