Fantastic service at The Level Catered for my gluten allergy well. Excellent service by all but Jacob the pool guy was fantastic and friendly. Took the time to show us how to play a local board game and even helped us buy one to take home! Lillian at the Level gave fantastic service with drinks by the pool. It’s spotlessly clean, the concierge went above and beyond to help with taxi and trips ect. Nothing was too much trouble! The beach touting is relentless but if your firm and say no they do leave you alone. The only thing that could do with improving is the selection of gf desserts oh and gf bread is not available even when requested cake is brought ( not always a bad thing lol) would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone!

Our stay at Melia, Zanzibar turned into one of the most terrifying experiences of our lives. In the middle of the night, while we were asleep, someone entered our room and robbed us. We are grateful beyond words that my husband and I did not wake up — because this was not just about losing money or valuables, it could have been life-threatening. What’s even more shocking is the hotel’s complete lack of security and action. They claim to have 300 cameras and multiple security guards but none could avert this life threatening incident when it was needed. There was no genuine concern for our safety, no proper investigation, and no follow-up to ensure that such a breach would never happen again. Apparently, the intruder was in the property for over 30 minutes (without the security noticing) before entering our room and he left without any checks from the on duty security. This is beyond shocking for a hotel that claims to be a 5-star property. This wasn’t a small inconvenience — this was a traumatic, life-changing and life threatening event that has left us shaken. We want others to understand: your safety is not guaranteed here, and if something goes wrong, you may be left completely unsupported. We have more photos and evidence including the photograph of the intruder captured on the security camera of Melia.

I would not rate this hotel as 5*. The hotel is quite dated with basic facilities unless you are staying in the levels section (which is $600 a night extra upon arrival). The buffet selection was extremely limited and basic, with slow restocking. The room was not clean and definitely did not meet 5* standards. Security was a major concern after cleaning, our ground floor room door was left unlocked, and staff entered despite a “Do Not Disturb” sign.

We stayed in The Level Ocean View 2 bedroom villa for 7 nights, and found the hotel to be excellent. The location is just over an hour from the Airport and is right on the east coast, so you do get a breeze from the sea, and the beach is close by. The Level, is what made this stay so good, from the moment we arrived to when we left, we found everyone there to be so friendly and polite. A special mention must go out to Benson, Khamis, Denuiz from the Concierge team and Lilian, Bruno and Secelia from the restaurants team, together with Chefs Matthew and Verinder, who all along with others ensured our stay was exceptional. The whole hotel is quite vast, and there is plenty to see and do. It never felt crowded or too busy due to the size. It is well kept, and the rooms used UK style plugs, and were air conditioned and had ceiling fans. Our youngest is a coeliac and the chefs ensured he was well catered for anywhere we went for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the hotel. We also booked a couple of half day tours to Stonetown and Spice farm, which were both good and well worth doing. The Spa was good, and there is a fully equipped gym. As a family we really enjoyed our stay at The Level, and would thoroughly recommend it for a relaxing stay in Zanzibar.

We booked this hotel for my partner and I and our two teenage girls. We requested rooms close together, but arriving early hours of morning we settled for them being downstairs in same block at least. Firstly, I would say staff are super friendly. Buffet breakfast is good. The buffet dinner is not so much.. very random food.. but maybe that’s just buffets. Had far better at other 5 star resorts. The jetty restaurant is great had lunch and dinner there. The biggest let down are the rooms. If you are not in a bungalow or in the level, rooms are extremely tired. Our girls room stunk of sewage and on second night they had a leak in ceiling.. after we requested they were moved no joy from reception and so they had to sit out there room for 2 hours to get air conditioning fixed. So disappointing as this was a holiday we saved hard for and experienced sloppy service and rooms that are desperately needing upgrades..
